"Next-gen don't start till we say so"

but somehow they are number #3 in hardware and software sales.

Wii - leads in Hardware sales

Xbox 360 - Leads in software and down by like 1 million in HW sales.

PS3 - Dead last, well I guess Next-Gen have not started yet, let me know when it does Sony.

Next-gen is what was not possible technically on last-gen hardware with a touch of innovative and creative process.

Both the 360 and PS3 qualify as Next Gen systems. Both have their strengths and flaws. As we have seen Developers have been able to make great games on bothh systems (Bioshock, Uncharted, Gears, Eye of Judgement (Not too exciting, but innovative), CoD4 on both. If a developer puts in the effort, they can make great Next Gen games, but at the same time, they can make rushed half baked games just to get a quick buck. I have a WIi, but don't consider it next Gen, it's simply innovative controls with last gen capabilities. Make motion controls for a PS2 or Xbox and you have Wii Sports all wrapped up.

Just a thought.

well i consider next gen any game that does something new and amazing, revolutionizes genre (Bioshock)

Next gen to me means better visuals and deeper immersion! I could care less about innovation because the closer we get to reality the more satisfied I feel with the overall experience! All of this innovation talk is Nintendo talk and in my opinion whats kiilng this gen! We should be happy with what we are getting and give devolpers time to understand both consoles and eventually give us what we feel we paid for!

Next gen is always the gen after the gen that is currently out. Once you have that system and games for it, it is the start of that gen, making it current gen.

That is, unless you want to talk about usless PR buzzwrods designed to make you talk about playing next gen and spend a lot of money.

IMO Hardware can have some elements of next gen and still be considered next-gen. I would personally refer to wii and 360 as partial next-gen and ps3 as total next-gen. Except for the fact that they are all now current gen IMO.

Wii is making it into next gen nomenclature by the skin of its teeth. If at all.

360 can be considered next gen but not all components are next gen i.e. dvd9.

ps3 can be considered next gen by most if not all categories if we were to put all 3 consoles through a checklist.

All 3 consoles are a huge letdown, and honestly, I don't understand why people are arguing which is better, you all should be pissed and setting up boycotts.

PS3 - This pile of turd has BluRay capability and thus is marketed as Entertainment Bliss.

360 - This pile has a failure rate that makes my gramps heart seem like a Nuclear power core, but this pile also has great (so-called) *community* of crap loving foul mouthed teenage dung beetles.

Wii - The last (but not least) pile of crap has to be the worst, it takes 2 steps forward and one giant leap backwards, creating games that both inventive and hugely unoriginal and overused IP's with butt fugly visuals and wonky controls.

The big point here, until video games grow up and becomes a standard media of enjoyment, it will continue to be viewed as toys and marketed towards brain dead obedient parents, teenagers, and fanboys.

Company rundown.

Sony - Doing alot of things right, but have made some poor choices.

Microsoft - Doing alot of things wrong, but have made some good choices along the way.

Wii - Only a handful of games are worth noting, the rest is utter garbage.

I left PC gaming out of this because PC gamers should be the most angry for a variety of reasons. (DX10 lies come into mind) >_<

I'd say the most next-gen game available is actually Shadow of the Colossus. It puts almost every other game to shame.

uhh next gen is DUN DUN DUN....:UNCHARTED..!!..no beating that..!!

uncharted is next gen.it uses old formulas,but no other game i have seen has THAT MANY animations for the main character.maybe for a basketball game from 2k sports,but not for an adventure game.

same goes for the detail of uncharted.every little detail was pushed to the next level.not perfect,but so close on the little details.

voice acting and cinemas go to heavenly sword.NO OTHER GAME can come close and claim their cinemas match HS.

action i would have to give it up for gears and call of duty4.and i'm just counting games out right now.they really pushed the envelope for movie style action.

the one that comes so close to reality would be GT5.the car detail is RIDICULOUS.the sickest looking cars ever made.don't even try it fanboys,the cars own all racing games.

i guess what i'm trying to say is the details are making what next gen is:

A.I.
animation
polygon builds of objects
physics
voice acting and the mouths that follow the sound
originality

then there's the wii controller.good job nintendo for making something different.we needed it to shake things up.same with sony for remote play and pseye.and yes,microsoft for xbox live and connecting gamers.i'll give them that.they pulled off what sony only talked about with ps2.

the most next-gen game to me.

has got to be Forza2.
photo-realistic graphics, damage, deep customization, online features
and force feedback wheel.

We've already reached a point where the resolution can't get much better. We're only a gen or two away from games that look like you're playing a movie (at least I think we are). Eventually, when graphics can no longer be improved, video games will have to rely on a combo of innovative, addictive, fun gameplay and great storytelling.

When we look at movies, great special effects are fun to watch, and can make millions of dollars, but the movies that have great characters and storytelling are the ones that we most fondly remember.

A lot of people knock Halo 3 as being an average shooter. While that is a matter of personal opinion, a part of Halo 3 that appeals to many people is its conclusion to a good, complex storyline.

It would seem that alot of people tend to see only one thing as Next-Gen, and that would be...

Graphics

you know that graphics aren't what makes a game, its gameplay

this is something that someone might say, but I'll humor you, ok graphics are good, but what will happen when the day comes that Graphics are SO REAL, that you can't push it past the physical limit? what are you goin to expect then? (excluding Virtual Reality because thats as real as you can get)

and as for revolutionary games, there are barely any out, pretty much at least 75% of PS3's and 360's Games are exactly the same. they are FPS, and there not really revolutionizing the gaming industry, in fact all FPS games are exactly the same in everyway.

one might also say, "But this FPS lets you do this, and this FPS lets you do that!!! they are totally different from each other" the only thing that seperates all the FPS games from each other is Features other than that they are exactly the same.

by now people are probably saying "this guy is such a fanboy of Nintendo..." or something along those lines, I'm not done yet

As for Nintendo i'll admit that it is basically GC 2.0 or lower, and about 90% of the games on Wii suck. but you got to also look at the fact that Nintendo is pretty smart, because all they did was slap on Motion-Sensing and yet its stupidly selling well. and for there games they are basically the same as well, there is nothing really new about them as well.

So to sum this all up, a Next-Gen game isn't about graphics, its all about Gameplay, Innovation, and Introducing something new to everyone that they would never expect. Graphics are basically just Icing on a cake or something extra, they are not what makes a game.

360: Online Gaming the Way it should be
PS3: Hardware

so in short they are all some what Next-Gen, I hope this clarifies things.

Potentially, december 2008, potentially,a game called Gears Of War 2. Yes,its not out,but come on people,would epic really release a game tht looks like anything else at tht point. i thnk not
