Sonic Generations Review - JPS

"Sonic Generations is a consequential game. It could be a lot of things, an affirmation of the hope the Sonic fanbase holds on its shoulders, a love-letter or blessing come too late or truly the final nail in Sonic’s coffin. Sonic’s revival is one that has been awaited and expected and denied over and over again and to a lot of gamers, this could be the final word on whether there’s any life left in the blue hedgehog. It’s been 20 years and after two decades, is this game the long awaited apology? Or is it the dying sputters of a mammal long since dead? Check out the HOTs and NOTs of Sonic Generations." - JPS

Never thought I would see another Sonic game get such great reviews again. Welcome back bud.

Fun game, but not that hard.

I completely love this game. So far none of that silly town stuff to get to the next stage. You start and play, very well done!

So many different paths for shortcuts and time savers. The only thing I'm not digging is the use of items and super sonic for better times on tracks but oh well it still is a great game!

I unlocked the super sonic ability. The classic super sonic supports no advantage over regular classic sonic other than invincibility. He doesn't have infinite momentum and isn't even faster. And the super sonic for both take all 100 skill points. Modern super sonic can actually fly like a jet plane when boosting however it depletes your rings a hell of alot quicker though he is vastily much much faster when boosting. However the trade off isn't very ideal for levels with tons of hazardous and enemies. I was boosting for a about 15 seconds burn up all 175 rings, turned normal and ran into a enemy and died because I had no rings. Super sonic is only beneficial in terms of speed for modern sonic. However not having to avoid enemies may help you get overall better times for classic though

The 7 Best Sonic the Hedgehog Games: Racing through Time

Sonic the Hedgehog has a long and turbulent history in videogames, but which are the best games featuring the blue bur?

Generations over Mania? Please… Generations doesnt have any new ideas in the levels/bosses.

Also a top 7 of Sonic games shouldn’t have any 3D crap and contain at least one of the 8-bit titles.

Sonic CD getting snubbed is weird. Number 1 is definitely interchangable between Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Nothing wrong with putting Generations over Mania. Generations had a lot more to it. Mania was just a bit too short, despite how amazing it was. They're both top-tier Sonic games though.

Profchaos836d ago (Edited 836d ago )

I don't think mania was to short given 1,2,3, knuckles were between 1 and 3 hours long.

Mania was 5 hours roughly

However i say the originals feel more repayable because they are so short

The 8 bit games were pretty bad overall do you mean the 16 bit ones

Rebel_Scum836d ago

Nope. Sonic 1 & 2 on the master system were great. Dont confuse these with the game gear versions either.

Profchaos836d ago

Top 7 for me
7 cd
6 mania
5 Frontiers
4 sonic 3
3 sonic 1
2 sonic and knuckles
1 sonic 2

Sometimes I feel like the Sonic Advanced games just didn’t exist with how much it’s always forgotten 😭

Even as a Sonic fan, I didn't really care for those games, and getting the Chaos Emeralds were freakin' horrible. Even with an emulator and save states, I didn't have the desire to try. I also didn't like most of the levels or bosses either. Unfortunately, DiMPs aren't good at making Sonic games.

Why the Separation Between Modern and Classic Sonic is a Double-Edged Sword

The divide between both iterations of Sonic is now reaching spin-off territory, and the way Sega is handling it is both a blessing and a curse.
