resident evil 4 was still horror just in a different way. it gave you a claustrophobic feeling that none of the games in the series made you feel(atleast to me) while 5 was just pure action disguised as survival horror. i remember someone from capcom saying that resident evil 5 has a "black hawk down" feeling to it. how in the hell is that horror

StanSmith5323d ago

Capcom is right. Resi 5 was still horror. Just it was the "OMG what have you done to Resident Evil" type of horror!

Still, as an action game it was a great game.

Neither were particularly great at horror at all. Resident Evil really lost it's soul with Resident Evil 4 & 5. Pt 1, 2 especially 2), 3 were the pinnacle of the series.

It was such a shame when Capcom ditched the slow moving, shuffling zombie style of game.

I really think there was so much more they could have done with the series, as 4 & 5 felt dissapointingly, detached from the series. They were decent games, but they should have been part of a new IP, & the Resident Evil series could have evolved in more sensical ways. Like using a more fluid, obvious, 3rd person control scheme, as well as all the other intricacies that the step up from PS1 to PS2 to PS3 offered.

you forgot great games like RE:0 and RE: Code veronica .. and RE:make (still I love it more than original) :)

Oh please...

the only thing scary about Resident Evil 5 was its price-tag.

Seventh_Blood_Reborn5323d ago

I would add another scary thing: you couldn' t walk when aiming.

Yay for gameplay evolution! /S

I had never played a Resi game before that, However I played Dead Space before RE5. So I was used to the run and gun aspect in a survival/horror. And then Resi 5 rolls around, with the same over-the-shoulder shooting technique, but you can't run?

I was like...the fuck is this shit? Given that RE5 was released AFTER DS1. I asked my friend why capcom made it so you couldnt run, he said to increase the tension. I was like wtf? Dead Space allowed you to run and it still made me shit my pants.

Seventh_Blood_Reborn5323d ago

@ ironfist92: That is exactly my thought, this is why I didn't buy RE5.
A friend lent me RE5 just to see it ( I was already disgusted from the mechanics I saw before it was even released ), and to see how stupid this mechanic was nowadays ... I was glad I dind' t buy that game.

RE5 was very weak, period.

Capcom disappointed me so much this generation.

Once you see the characters pulling combos and backflips on "zombies"... its not scary. The fixed camera angles on RE0-3, for me, made the game scary

Capcom's willingness to invest in experiments and scrap them sets them apart form many other developers (Nintendo have a similar methodology). Far too often companies push a game setting or game mechanic that is just not that good and the final product is middling or poor.
