EA sensitive to syndicate fanbase

EA was absolutely ready for the hostile response to the revelation that the all-new syndicate game had abandoned the franchise's roots in favour of creating a first-person shooter, EA Partners producer Ben O'Donnell has told VideoGamer.com.

"It's EA's IP, they were the one who released it originally. You've got to be sensitive of that, because people do look back on older games like that with rose tinted glasses, they really do," said O'Donnell. "And it was a great game, so we've got to do the right thing by it."

I'm curious at how many people have honestly played a lot of these older games getting reboots and who is just repeating what others have said.

I never played Syndicate back in the day (or X-Com) so I could care less what is different. I think both games on their own merit look fantastic.

Dark_Overlord5311d ago

I have played every iteration of XCOM and Syndicate ever created, I have the collectors edition of XCOM and Syndicate Wars both permanently installed on my PC. They are amazing games, and these 'reboots' are nothing but a kick in the teeth to the long time fans, all to satisfy little jimmy who only knows how to point and shoot (i.e the COD generation) >:(

hazelamy5310d ago

i played syndicate a lot back on the amiga.
same for X-Com.

these new games, and they may even turn out to be great games, that's not what i expect from a syndicate game, and as for that x-com game, all i'll say is, that is absolutely not x-com

do they really need to bring back these series just to make it look like their generic fps number 34128762 actually has some history behind it.

those too young to have played the original won't know the original games so they will hardly be fans anyway, and those old enough to have played and become a fan of the originals won't like what's being done to them.

tacking these old IPs on does nothing to help these titles.
it's just putting off those who played the originals and is irrelevant for those didn't.

but then the industry, and especially ea, is too short sighted to realise that.

one of the worst offender of this shooter bandwagon hopping while tagging on an unsuitable ip is that bloody batman fps.
anybody who knows anything about the character should know that the very last genre you make a batman game into is a bloody fps.

i played a syndicate for the atari jaguar like in the early 90s and i played a syndicate for the ps1. so for me i dont like them changing it. i mean like we dont have enough first person shooters on the market. they always take the easy route.

just admite it ea first person shooters sell better and your money grubbers.

i dont mind them making another first person shooter just dont take a game that wasnt one and ruine it just to try to sell copies from the name of the old franchise.

Baka-akaB5311d ago

Of course you were ready . You and "journalists" are just going to ignore it either way .

Dark_Overlord5311d ago

I'm pretty sure it was a big 'F*** YOU' by EA :/

Syndicate Reboot Servers to Close

Electronic Arts has announced a number of server closures in the coming months, including Apex Mobile and the 2012 Syndicate reboot.

MadLad1149d ago

What online functionality did Shadows of the Damned even have?

kevco331149d ago

My thoughts exactly! Some kind of score chart I've forgotten about?

coolbeans1149d ago

Syndicate's big saving grace will soon be erased for good. I'll give *some* credit to EA in keeping servers up for 10+ years.

mastershredder1148d ago

Oh yeah, an actual cyberpunk game. I have fond memories of the old bullfrog Syndicates.

IamTylerDurden11148d ago

Syndicate was a fun and high quality late PS3 fps that got swallowed in the sea of fps at the time. It was short and it didn't innovate but it had good visuals and fun combat. Starbreeze i believe. Rip Torn and Rosario Dawson.

Syndicate - 10 Years with no Reboot Reboot

10 years since the Syndicate series was rebooted as an FPS, perhaps it's time we got another reboot as a strategy game?

ABizzel11503d ago

I enjoyed this game, especially the co-op. It was solid sleeper hit IMO.

MeteorPanda1502d ago

was this the game with the cars on rails and you could blow up killing everyone in it? l loved this game, lol

porkChop1502d ago

I couldn't get past the first half hour or something. Hard to remember but I didn't play long. I don't know if there was something wrong with the PC version or not, but the bloom was so bad it hurt my eyes. I started getting a horrible headache. I could hardly see anything because there was extremely intense bloom everywhere.

annoyedgamer1502d ago

EA always let their PC versions fall by the wayside. The same thing happened with Dead Space 1.

Gheritt_White1502d ago

This remains one of my fave hard sci-fi FPS games from the X360 era. A compelling premise with an interesting setting and solid characters, plus outstanding special ability mechanics. Def deserves more love.

Dirt on the lens (and JJ Abrahms style overuse of lens flare) is the worst, especially in war games like Battlefield. We're not supposed to be a camera! Way to ruin the illusion of actually being the player we're controlling.

PrimeVinister1781d ago

Yeah, that's a bad one that is missing from the list

FPS_D3TH1781d ago

Most soldiers today wear goggles or tactical glasses so dirt on the lens isn’t that much of a stretch tbh

isarai1781d ago

Vignettes, chromatic aberration, and that annoying thing where they blur the corners of the screen. Also film grain.

FPS_D3TH1781d ago

All those immediately get turned off when I load up my settings haha. Unless I’m going for screenshots it’s more than annoying

PrimeVinister1781d ago

You are mostly stuck with whatever terrible effects on console. There are some options like motion blur that can switched off but it's not common

PrimeVinister1781d ago

Depth of field is annoying. Along with most camera or lens effects.

But DoF will be cool in the future when they can track what you are looking at and apply DoF accordingly.

DeviateFish1781d ago

Don't forget camera shake and "realistic" camera movement in cutscenes.

porkChop1781d ago

The Syndicate reboot had the absolute worst bloom I've ever seen. It literally hurt my eyes and gave me a headache just from playing. I could never finish it.

PrimeVinister1781d ago

Absolutely. Beyond the distraction and obstruction, it looked unpleasant a lot of the time.
