I agree fully, 90% of gamers these days don't know what the hell they are talking about, mainly because they grew up in the 3D era and if the game doesn't have the most up-to-date graphics at release, it's not worth their time. They also are the ones that will sell all those great games as soon as the next gen comes around because they are "obsolete".

Wii's focus is OBVIOUSLY not graphics, or they would have made it a power house. If you can't grasp that, then by all means stay with your $600 machine.

Personally I have Wii and xbox 360, and while 360 takes care of my FPS and online play, the wii takes care of the core aspect of gaming... one so many people have forgotten. Pure-Simple-Fun. My friend *Who hated the idea of the Wii at launch* is now scrounging to find one on craig's list because of how much fun Super Mario Galaxy is. We've also had a lot of fun drunk nights playing Wii Sports and Wario Ware.

I fully believe this console will win the console war, simply because you don't need to spend the first 2 levels of the game getting past the learning curve, or worry about how the developer said 720p when it's actually 640p.. even though it still looks beautiful. Anyone can pick up the Wii-mote and start playing a game of bowling, or do the crazy mini-games in Wario Ware... making it appeal to a much broader range of people.... and how do you go by winning the console war? Sales. There, i've done it. I've cracked the code and managed to predict the future in that single sentence. But then again... does it really matter who the f&ck wins? Well, it probably does to most of the people here sadly.. this place is full of senseless fanboys that have never even had to blow on a game to get it to work again.

I pray that the Wii is just a fad and that it completely stops selling, because the Wii is a very bad thing for hard-core gamers. I think Nintendo will probably wind up selling the most hardware(as a result of cheap price) but more price drops by Sony and MS will negate that advantage and then what will the Wii have? For all of this talk about the innovation with the Wii remote(my friend has one and I don't find it amusing at all)3rd party dev's will have a hard time trying to get these casual gamers(who don't play often anyway)to buy large quantities of their games. That being said you really can't hate on Nintendo for shying away from hardcore gamers and cornering the much larger(hardware)market of casual gamers. This was an excellent business decision by them and has already multiplied their stock price and worth as a company.

as the wii will never be able to compete for the hardcore section of the market because technologically it is 1 generation behind. The hard core fans need not to worry unless 3rd parties all abandon the hardcore market to develop for the casual market which is highly unlikely. I am mean games like MGS4 will never be on the wii in its current form and i doubt 3rd parties like Konami will stop producing games such as MGS4 and produce only casual games as i think they will be loosing alot of money if they do.One of the reason why the wii is selling fast is because its already selling at main stream price which the majority of the public are comfortable with. As the x360 and PS3 get closer to this main stream price. Alot of people will see the value in these two but not the wii especially with more people getting into hi def at a fast rate. While the wii will never be able to compete with x360 and PS3 for the lucrative hardcore section of the market. x360 and especially PS3 will in time compete heavily with the wii for casual market as well so i wouldn't say the wii is unstoppable.

The only console that is overpriced right now to me is the Wii. And the only console called a piece of junk was the Wii at GDC, correction: "A piece of sh$#." Their words, not mine. I grew up in the NES and Sega Master System era, and back then Super Mario and Zelda were great. Here we are 20 or so years later, and Nintendo is still putting out the same games with different names. Not only that, but Nintendo has not gone hi-def. So i think that its sufficient to say that Nintendo is behind the times.

Bottom line is that if you are a kid who is just getting into games or if you're an adult who never got into video games and you find that Sony and XBOX controls are too complicated for you and you like little kids games such as Mario and Pokemon, then the Wii is for you.

This whole nintendo thing will blow over within a year and a half to two years.

The reason the Wii is hated by some hardcore gamers is because we want developers to make hardcore games that push the limits of technology (but don't want to spend $5000 on a PC for Crysis). If the Wii remains really popular, then maybe developers will stop making games for the 360 or PS3 and start making cheaper, easier casual games for the Wii. I don't want Ubisoft to cancel Rainbow Six Vegas 3 in order to start working on "Animal fun rainbow toy party" for the Wii. So you see, there is a legitimate reason for me to hate the Wii.

It's not about getting "the winning console", it's about getting the one that has the most games I want to play, and in my case it's the PS3. 360's games are good, but they are mostly appealing to former PC gamers, i.e. shooters, RTS and WRPGs. I want hack and slash 3rd person action, I want JRPGs, I want japanese 3rd party games which will mostly be found on PS3. I still have a 360 though, to play a few gems... anyhow, Nintendo is about its 1st party games, which I?m tired off...

Nintendo Wii is definitely going to win the this generation. There is no doubt it will.

What you fanboys don't get is that the mass market doesn't really care about high end graphics. Improved graphics used to be progress when it opened up more gameplay possibilities. For instance, the NES was capable of smooth side scrolling games (Super Mario Bros.), the SNES was capable of Mode 7 (Pilotwings and F-Zero), the N64 was capable of rendering real time 3-D (Mario 64). Now consoles are at a point where no matter how great the graphic capabilities are it's not going to open up new gameplay possibilities. You can still have games like Halo 3 and Bioshock on the Wii albeit with lower quality graphics. Nintendo made a smart move not to make a console with HD graphics because it is superfluous and it is really risky to sell every console at a loss and try to recoup the loss with software sales like Sony and Microsoft is trying to do (Microsoft hasn't made a single net profit in their game division and Sony haven't made a single net profit from the PS3).

As for people's constant prediction that the Wii will fade away soon, I want to ask you guys a simple question: how long will it take you to quit saying it if the Wii continues to sell at the same rate? I mean, if it is still selling like hotcakes by mid 2008 will you still say it is fad? Because people have been saying it for the past 12 months and it has constantly been sold out. I am just curious to know if there is a timetable that determines a product really isn't a fad when it sells like hotcakes. It would be nice if someone stopped being a fanboy for a second and answer the question.

There is still Brawl, Mario Kart as far as announced first party games go, as well as games like Medal of Honour (which has recieved some higher reviews than Mass Effect). Half the people who talk trash about the quality of Wii's games have never played anything other than a FPS. A real gamer opens their eyes and plays games they enjoy no matter what system it is on.
Graphic these days have reached a level where they don't need to be ground breaking for the game to be great. I know this because I am having as much fun playing Call of Duty 4 on my 360 as I did Super Mario Bros. on the NES years ago. Anyone who would trade a good looking game for what really is fun to play is not a real gamer.

Nintendo Wii is capable of rendering complicated physics (Elibits), destructible environments, more enemies on screen and better enemy A.I. (Metroid Prime 3).

The 360 and PS3 doesn't fundamentally innovate or improve gameplay. I have been playing video games since 1984 so I know how more powerful consoles have opened up opportunities for innovated gameplay. Each console generation had a game that would have been impossible on the previous console. Couldn't have Super Mario Bros. on Atari. Couldn't have F-Zero or Star Fox on NES. Couldn't have Mario 64 and Goldeneye 007 on SNES.

Do you really think you can't have games like Bioshock and Halo 3 on the Wii or Xbox? Sure the graphics would be lower quality but the gameplay wouldn't be fundamentally compromised. Playing games like Heavenly Sword, Virtua Fighter 5 and Motorstorm surely look beautiful but it's not revolutionary or innovative. You think to yourself you have played this type of game many times before but only now the graphics look nicer. Each successive generation brought innovative gameplay experiences but not this generation, except for the Wii. The Wii remote has opened up a lot of innovative opportunities and some games have utilized it brilliantly (Zack and Wiki, Wario Ware, Elibits, Metroid Prime 3, Wii Sports). Playing it I think to myself "Wow I have never played something like this in this way before". That's what I call progress. I don't think able to see every strand of hair on a character or every blade of grass on screen is progress.

The Wii is for little kids and nostalgic adults/casual gamers. Period.

360, PS3, and PC are for progressive, mature gamers.

Are "hardcore gamers" people that can't enjoy a videogame if it's not in 5200x4800 resolution with 9093405734098 polygons, and (most important) without violence of any kind. Seriously, why 99% games for "HC GAMERS" are always some dumb/mindless FPS or third person shooter? Why is considered so much fun to kill someone or something, these days??? COD4, GEARS OF WAR, ASSASSINS CREED, DARKNESS, JERICHO, RESIDENT EVIL, UNCHARTED.................list goes on, and on.... Running and gunning aliens, terrorists, criminals... Same crap, with different (shallow) storyline which is there just to justify unbelievable amount of violence.
Why people have given up on most non-violent games, where the goal is not to shoot or mutilate someone/something, and those who hadn't are called "dumb" and "casual"? Think about that for a moment...

It's not just those things you mentioned JCDenton, but it's the skill it takes to play some of those games well, as opposed to collecting coins with Mario for the 100th time.

But on top of the that, yes, improved graphics are part of making the experience submersive. Along with more challenging games and INTERESTING storylines.

I like playing action games as an adult, just like I prefer action movies, as opposed to watching kids cartoons. Although I must say I like Ratchet and Clank on the PS3 because it's like playing a Pixar film. Mario fans would die if they could play a Mario game built that way. Ha, it'll probably take 2 gens for Nintendo to do that, then people who don't know better will be like "oh, the Nintendo is so progressive." Pff.

By that point, 10 years from now, we'll be playing exciting, scary, expansive, emotional, action plus story driven, thoughtful, challenging games with photo realistic graphics and pure uncompressed sound (this is already happening to a degree right now)

And Nintendo, unless they change, will be doing the same old crap, and it will do well for them, because, they will be cheaper and simpler for the mass market.

I know all this is hard to understand for Wii fanbois, so, my piece is done. Keep playing Mario and I'll keep playing submersive, advanced, challenging works of art.

BTW, if you think FPS games are mindless (yet you are defending platform kids games ironically) then you really are an ignorant Ninfando. FPS games/tactical shooters are quite challenging these days and have good storytelling, plus challenging multiplayer and are always on the cutting edge of graphics and sound.

Even if it's the same ideas, they have vastly been improved upon to where it really is not "the same." You can't say that these games aren't vastly different than what they were in the early 90's. That's ridiculous.

And, getting off FPS games, what about RPG? Something else Nintendo is really lacking in. Nintendo couldn't run a game like Oblivion if you put 2 Wiis together.

Hardcore gamming will win in the end...it sales more software...The wii maybe selling more hardware right now because it is all hyped p...but it is not selling software...the Xbox 360 is selling more software right now and it has a higher attach rate of software...only because it has been out for over 2 years.

The PS3 is comming hard and fast...Sony has the biggest installed base of users...and eventually a big portion of the PS2 user base will jump to the PS3...its already starting to happen...HDTV is the new and hot thing...A wii does not show off you new HDTV...but a PS3 really does...do not forget bluray...sony was ingenious in putting in bluray into the PS3. Remember the PS3 is only $150 more than a Wii and you get so much, much much more in the PS3.

The Wii does NOT have the following:

DVD or hi-def video playback
Hard Drive
nextgen graphics
nextgen sound
Solid Multiplayer Online service
Camera and microphone for video chat and online chat in games
Multimedia funtionallity

With the PS3 you get everything....with the Xbox 360 you almost get everything...but no hi-def video playback (you have to add it for $170) and only dolby 5.1...the PS3 has that and 7.1.

Also you can not really have an online service with game demo downloads unless you have a hard drive...and that is why you will never see this on the wii...you will be able to download the old tired nintendo games...but that is about it.

Also the wii interface is slow...

This is all good if you do not care...but after you play with a wii for awhile and then play with either the Xbox 360 or PS3...you will understand that the wii is not truely next gen....only in the controller.

The Xbox 360 is $350 (the arcade one does not count you need a harddrive in the Xbox 360)

I can understand some people not wanting the Xbox 360 because of the RED RING OF DEATH (RROD)....30 percent of the old Xbox 360s are effected...and the RROD still happens on the current updated ones...so people are scared even though microsoft has a 3 year warranty...it still sucks that your console could die at any moment...you do not have to worry about this on the PS3 and the Wii.

Also there really is no good software on the...just like there is really no good software on the Nintendo DS....there are only about 4 good games on the wii....after that you are bored...but I think Wii fit is it is done right will sell well...because its different.

In the end...the PS3 will will this generation because Sony will continue to lower the price and all the good games will come to the PS3 in the next year to 2 years...and the PS3 was built to last for at least 7 years in the current form...even if a PS4 comes out in 5 years, Sony will still support the PS3. You will see the PS3 drop to $299 by next christmas...and the Wii will still be at $250...maybe $199...and by Christmas 2009 the PS3 will be at $199....and its all over for the Wii by then...remember Sony is in it for the long hall...bluray and ps3 console domination...you can hate sony all you want but they brilliantly made a comeback after only 11 months...unless microsoft has some secret games in development for 2008 release they are done....all they have is Gears of war 2..but i am sure they have something else...

After people play Killzone 2, God of War 3, Motorstorm 2, Resistance Rise of Man, GT5, Infamous, Final Fantasy 13, MGS4, Socom Confrontation, White Knight Story, Little Big Planet, Gears of War 2 (I had to throw in a Xbox 360 game, I am not trying to hate on the 360).....they will not even care about the wii...

The Wii? "Win" this generation? Only legitimate game systems "win" their generation. The Wii is just a fad that's starting to wear thin. Especially if the trend continues with only Nintendo making money off of it and casual gamers buying the system for only Wii Sports or what ever party game they want.

Why do you keep mentioning Mario games? I never said that idea of jumping for coins isn't old as the first videogames. All I was saying is:

1) that people can enjoy some nice and competitive games without having to kill or destroy everything on screen;

2) graphics are not everything. It's just like pretty, but stupid girl/boy (depends, of course ;)). Once you've passed behind pretty looks, a game itself is all that's left and matters;

Ask yourself one thing - when you've played (for example) Doom 2, 13 years ago, was it fun? If it was, is it now less fun because there are games like Doom 3 or KillZone 2 or whatever modern FPS? I don't think so. Game is still good, only if you don't care about number of shader operations, cores, resolution...

thats suppose to do what get people to go buy a ps3 or a 360 instead.. you're losing deal with it.. wii caters to everyone thats why its on top.. hate all day.

Yeah, but according to you Wii-haters on here the Wii won't last. But you guys have been saying that for over a year when the Wii has been outselling the 360 and PS3 combined so you guys don't have much credibility.

In order to be number one you must have the number one Console out there. Not a couple of number one games. I can see the Wii getting there if they come out with some more games other than Mario/Metroid and can "produce" more consoles. Nintendo has definitely gone a different way of playing games and only time will tell. PS3 has gone off the radar and I don't know if they can ever get back on. Microsoft is the only one Nintendo has to worry about.

Firstly it's not a competition - it real and whoever sells the most DOES actually 'win' lets get that straight. However and sadly (because i used to love nintendo dearly) the are losing old school fans and new alike by treating us with barely concealed contempt, i live in the UK just to fill you in - im still sore about the utterly shamefull 'release' of the wii here - you still cant pick one of the shelves here - one full year after the launch - accessories are scarce and the games (especially their own) have so many delays its not even funny. Im not a fan of SONY or MICROSOFT but ive watched other people simply give up on the Wii because they cant get their hands on one, its not that, as BloodySinner says, they shouldnt win - they just WONT at this rate unless they pull their finger out - nintendo europe... what IS that??? because to me its a joke and not a funny one. If the lack of machines is meant to create a 'buzz' then it has - but not the desired buzz....buuuuuut if the few thousand (maybe less) machines at release here was actually the best they could do then they WILL be stemrollered by the other BIG 2 ...and no one wants to see that happen. Get your finger out Nintendo Europe your fans are leaving in droves.
