Sega has sent out a short but sweet press note that Sonic Generations has become the most pre-ordered game in the series history, which debuted in 1991.
According to the note, "SEGA is proud to announce that Sonic Generations has exceeded all previous pre-order records from the 20 year Sonic catalog. This has made Sonic Generations the most anticipated title in the Sonic the Hedgehog’s iconic history."
Sonic X Shadow Generations is a remaster of Sonic Generations released in 2011. The real question is, does the remaster live up to the hype of the original?

Generations over Mania? Please… Generations doesnt have any new ideas in the levels/bosses.
Also a top 7 of Sonic games shouldn’t have any 3D crap and contain at least one of the 8-bit titles.
Sonic CD getting snubbed is weird. Number 1 is definitely interchangable between Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Nothing wrong with putting Generations over Mania. Generations had a lot more to it. Mania was just a bit too short, despite how amazing it was. They're both top-tier Sonic games though.
I don't think mania was to short given 1,2,3, knuckles were between 1 and 3 hours long.
Mania was 5 hours roughly

Nope. Sonic 1 & 2 on the master system were great. Dont confuse these with the game gear versions either.

Sometimes I feel like the Sonic Advanced games just didn’t exist with how much it’s always forgotten 😭
Even as a Sonic fan, I didn't really care for those games, and getting the Chaos Emeralds were freakin' horrible. Even with an emulator and save states, I didn't have the desire to try. I also didn't like most of the levels or bosses either. Unfortunately, DiMPs aren't good at making Sonic games.
The divide between both iterations of Sonic is now reaching spin-off territory, and the way Sega is handling it is both a blessing and a curse.
Sega, its because of the classic sonic levels and the beautiful detail. Bring us an entire game based on this but actually make original beautiful levels not just another Sonics Greatest Hits remix.

Give me a game based in 2.5d the whole time with none of the silly 3d levels (with the exception of bonus levels) and keep the beauty of Green Hill Zone but with all new zones, kill off everyone but Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Dr Robotnik and I might buy it.
it is because it includes classic sonic and other classics. not that crappy excuse of the sonic today. and i mean the 2.5d plane sonic with the bonus stage from sonic the hedgehog 2 which is currently the best sonic to this day
