It's interesting to gather all these clues together. No real confirmation of anything just yet, but everyone loves a bit of speculation. Least this is Dan Houser offering some clues prior to the GTA V announcement.

skyward5196d ago

It'll definitely be set in L.A. and make fun of the financial crisis - no other subject is big enough for GTA.

TimmyShire5196d ago

That would be good. I think I'd like that setting, but I'd like it to be in the modern era again. No 80s or 90s please.

Pintheshadows5196d ago

You mean Los Santos right? Right?

zireno5196d ago

@TimmyShire

You do know that the 80's and 90's are modern times right?

Coffin875196d ago

He says that it will most likely stay in the US - here we go with London.

Look at this: http://revolt-tech.com/?p=1...
I LOVE the idea of a native american. You start in a reservoir and go somewhere else.
Imagine the start of a GTA game somewhere in a desert-like setting, with today's graphics.
Imagine getting into the big city the first time ..... how they (R*) could introduce their city .. possibilities are endless.
Imagine, best of all, a San Andreas - like setting. I would LOVE me a big desert.

DeadManMcCarthy5195d ago

washington d.c is also a strong candidate not in terms of popularity but clues.

Did anyone notice how the V on gta5 looks.
It was from a 5 dollar bill an (Indian 5 dollar U.S. bill) look it up.
GTA been known for stereotypes, but when Indians have money why is that?
Hello People, Casinos!!
Um Las Vegas anyone?

Mr PS35196d ago

It holds many clues
But i'm not gonna share em with ya

TheBlackMask5196d ago

Why would it take place in the real city of L.A when other past GTA games have used locations BASED on real life cities.

Basicaly it wouldn't be L.A it would be Los Santos.

I'm kind of hoping though it will be set in Vice City fist, although they need to make it bigger and adding extra farr away islands is the only way to do that. Plus they could add a huge main land city aswell.

skyward5196d ago

When I said L.A., I meant a fictional version, like Los Santos. Could be awesome with current-gen tech.

i_da_pappy5196d ago

I would rather see them make their own world than to copy real landmarks

brettyd5196d ago

I'm going with modern day San Andreas, makes sense. That was the best location of any GTA game. Hopefully they have as many diverse locations.

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty8h ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan10h ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher8h ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty8h ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies122h ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2025

O'Dell Harmon Jr. writes: "Before we say goodbye to 2025, let’s take a look back and see what were the most downloaded games of the year. It was a great time for sports, shooters, and some new PlayStation VR2 games. Sports favorites topped the charts in US/Canada and EU, with NBA 2K26 and EA Sports FC26, respectively.

Juggernaut GTA V found a home in the top three for both regions, with new 2025 release Battlefield 6 claiming second place in the US. Fortnite took top place for free-to-play games, and Beat Saber continues its PS VR2 success."

FH5 4th in Europe compared to North America 14th. Not surprising.

LucasRuinedChildhood1d 16h ago

I think it shows how shortsighted it was for Sony to let go of Evolution and not get them to make some sort of competitor (open world Driveclub?) 10 years ago.

bionicstar1d 9h ago (Edited 1d 9h ago )

its a hard bet to make. hindsight is always 20/20.

Christopher1d 6h ago

After Driveclub's reception, hard to say it would have done well enough to compete. It's easy to dream of such a thing, but to make it happen? It's taken how long for CoD to be dethroned? And it was dethroned by Hogwart's Legacy and has gained it right back just the next year.

It’s funny to watch the only games EU and USA agree on was Minecraft and back ops 7 both regions on 6 and 7 spot respectively other than that FIFA rules EU

gold_drake1d 6h ago

yeh, football is really popular here in europe ha

I would like to see a list that has both free to play and paid games together, but at least we have this.

To this day GTA5 is a top downloaded game and it makes me wonder if the industry is really ready for GTA6. I imagine almost nothing else will sell during that game's release window.

PlayStation and Xbox's most-played games of 2025 were the same as 2024's in the US, data suggests

Another night of Fortnite with the boys then?

I’ve never played Fortnite GTAV or CoD BO7 but I do own GTAV for PS4/5 because I got them cheap.

gold_drake9d ago

i think we should either take those games out, or make a singleplayer list too ha

badboyz099d ago

I still play gta V alot. The others nah.

Popsicle9d ago

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Tacoboto9d ago

What exactly are we not getting?

Did we not just have a 2025 filled with nice games like...

Silksong, Doom TDA, Expedition 33, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Ghost of Yotei, Dispatch, Split Fiction, Hades 2, DK Bananza, and so many more?

Popsicle9d ago

Agree that all you just posted are great games. Expedition 33 is one of my favorites. Spent a large chunk of time on BG3 in 2023. Another for my all-time list.

My point though not well articulated in the OG post is that we would get more of the games of the quality you mentioned if so many valuable resources were not allocated to FTP slop and/or heavy monetization schemes. Some of what used to be my favorite franchises have been ruined by them.

To sum it up, I would like to see games like 33 outperform the profits made by games like Fortnite so more resources are allocated to great games. When heavily monetized FTP games are at the top of the list, we end up being stuck with a significant chunk of games that are not good. Or worst case scenario games that spend years in development, but get cancelled due to industry trend chasing.

cloganart9d ago

Such a pessimistic view. This year gave so many good games.

Christopher9d ago

Popsicle, I actually think we're getting more great games because of the slop. Developers are seeing that people aren't happy and taking advantage of big AAA studios not delivering for people.

Popsicle9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Perhaps, and I hope you’re right. A shift is needed IMO
