Just buy the new version its 5 bucks more. Problem solved.

Now when used games are actually priced substantially lower than their unused counterparts, that's when we will have a problem with these anti-used practices.

Is that before or after you get hassled with missing codes and such?

He's wrong, the Catwoman content is not bonus, and it never was advertised as bonus before two weeks ago. It's not bonus even on the most basic level, trophies/gamer score. If you don't have her content you will miss Riddler icons and not be able to complete the game to 100% and earn all the cheevos or the plat. If the content was truly bonus, it wouldn't be part of completing the game to 100%.

His opinion is "unique" (as he says) because others do not share it. I don't agree with him either. I'm not whining about it, I'm not a crybaby. I'm an adult and I feel like Rocksteady is taxing the honest consumer instead of developing a better way to recoup money from used game sales.

Perhaps they should call auto manufacturers. They deal with their own used stock and make a healthy profit reselling their own cars. They also accept trade-ins from other car companies!

One thing I wonder is how much Rocksteady really has to do with this silly stuff. If I had to, I'd put money down on the influence coming from a bit higher.

Keep in mind that Rocksteady hasn't said anything to this effect, but kicking the golden goose for a little face saving generally isn't good business practice.

Eh, whatever. I still the developer, and I fully understand their viewpoint on used games.

It's completely nonsensical to compare used video games to used cars because the markets are so totally different. There is almost nothing that can be compared beyond the fact that the markets exist. The time it takes the original owner to turn around and sell a vehicle is considerably longer than the time it takes somebody to play a game and sell it used. Car manufacturers are not competing against their own products in the market place on any significant level. They're selling the latest model vehicles, while the used stuff is considerably older (at least, when looking at the grand scale) and the impact it has on new sales is negligible. Especially when most of the dealers (many owned by the manufacturers themselves) are selling their own used vehicles - this is something that doesn't happen in the video game industry because it wouldn't make sense.

But since you are unlikely to want to abandon the comparison, just think of it like this: The used copy is missing the code for Catwoman (or whatever else for whatever other game this might apply to), which is a lot like how a used car comes with wear and tear, several thousand miles on it, etc... Consider this the used games "wear and tear" and get over it.

At least with video games you can put a little extra cash into it to obtain all that content. I don't know where you buy your cars, but the last used vehicle I bought I wasn't able to throw another stack of cash at them to get the odometer reset to 0.

I wrote this article and I can assure you I confirmed with several Achievement websites that the Catwoman content is not required for the original 1000 Gamerscore. Therefore this is bonus content. I don't mind if anyone proves me wrong on this, but the information I've gathered so far seems to support my argument.

What about the people who buy it new but dont have internet connection to download the DLC? huh then what?

Saladfax5330d ago

Then perhaps you should return to your hunting and gathering tasks, ye man of the past.

Robotronfiend5330d ago

Unless he's in the military and deployed. They don't always get a choice.

erivera19945330d ago

i was speaking on behalf of those who dont have internet connection. I myself bought the game and dowloaded the DLC fine, but i have friends who have no internet.

swishersweets200315330d ago

go someplace where there is internet and spend the 2 seconds it takes to download the catwomen pack.

ChocolateGiddyUp5330d ago

Look at all the DLC that already exists for this game. If you want the "complete" Arkham City, it's probably going to cost you around $90. These guys aren't exactly on life support, here.

Buy the game if you think it's fun, not because you want to treat Rocksteady and Warner Bros. like a charity.

Robotronfiend5330d ago

I thought that first purchaser code was shadier than Crenshaw Pete with a coat hanger!

ChocolateGiddyUp5330d ago

Of course Warner Bros. is behind this. Their knowledge of scientific biological transmogrification is only outmatched by their zest for kung-fu treachery!

damnyouretall5330d ago

rocksteady deserves the money. the quality (production value) of their new game is freakin crazy. with that said i wonder how much money it took to make this game in 2 years time. a shit load i bet. anyways i dont give a damn bout catwoman reguardless
