Warner solving Arkham City DLC issue with a simple 5 step process

Joystiq: "According to a tipster, it looks like Warner Bros. is taking steps to resolve the various downloadable content issues faced by purchasers of Batman: Arkham City. Or, more precisely, Warner is asking customers to take steps -- five of them, actually. Alright, six if you include having to contact customer service in the first place."

That's a lot of work for something that should've just been unlocked from the get-go. Ridiculous.

That's a lot of work for something that used to be unlock-able in the game by challenging yourself. I know they want people to buy new copies rather than used but this is getting to be rediculous

***Obviously, the whole ordeal once again raises concern for the concept of "Online Pass" or "Project Ten Dollar," which is ostensibly aimed at reducing used game sales and thus increasing publisher revenue.***

If it was that big of a problem, then we wouldn't have them for PC games. And, this isn't the first game with issues regarding pre-order codes.

JD_Shadow5334d ago

But what's stopping this type of thing from happening in the future? Remember, the online pass method (which remember, spawned from them looking to cash in on our hate for Gamestop under the guise of "used game sales ruin everything for us", since we all KNOW devs will never see a penny of the revenue from the Online Pass) already has a black-eye on it because of it being there in the first place and of who's initiating it (those publishers who already have a bad rep of consumer goodwill).

Now we have this? What's to say that it won't happen again and to a publisher that couldn't give two shits about what people think of their negligence?

And when did you see this happening for PC games? You're confusing Online Pass with DRM, which the latter is it's own monster that's gotten so out of hand with not enough people caring enough to be able to do anything about it.

Christopher5334d ago

Go buy a PC game out of the box. Open it. You will need to enter a code before playing it on the PC you installed it on. This is for single and multi-player portions.

Buy a game on Steam or any other digital store, and what enables it to run on your system is a key.

These are the exact same as online passes, only you can't trade your digital games (at least not legally).

@cgoodno

I don't think this is about the whole "trading a game", but more so of a company can potentially screw out customers if an incident like this happened of keys not working, or keys not even there, and them turning a blind eye to it.

Thing is though, PC gaming has the codes meant for proof of purchase as DRM years ago, before console games started pulling it off.

Thing is for PC games, it's understandable. Console games, it's getting ridiculous. Just because it works in one format doesn't mean it SHOULD work in the other method.

I can really see this catching on with everybody... not.

Why cant they just do what ubisoft did with Driver SF when their online pass code went tits up and offer it for free? It'd be much more simplier if they did that.

Quagmire5333d ago

Online Passes for MP I couldnt care less about consdiering I hardly play online, but when you use it to lock out SP content, thats when you REALLy fuckw ith the consumer.

I'm waiting for the GOTY edition, fuck wasting my time with all this DLC bullshit.

We made a mistake so you do all the legwork. Way to taint your clearly brilliant game WB.
