The score dosn`t match the all the complaints they mentioned, so i was a bit surprised to see it got a 9,4.

Still the game looks great though, a must for RPG-fans i`m sure. Too bad about the framerate being unstable, but from the score it seems the overall quality is very high.

The little graphical Hiccups, and frame rate problems aside, this game looks awesome.

To say its a system seller?! Well i think its to hardcore for most, but i`m sure it will be on the wishlist for most current 360 owners.

Great scores for Mass Effect so far despite its technical problems. Hopefully PS3 games will get cut some slack one day.

It looks like a good game but with all the graphical and other technical issues the score seems a little generous. I'm not saying this to put it down just that it's worth pointing out.

Framerate issues on a RPG??!??!! if Uncharted had this many issues or even more so a PS3 game had this many issues the scored would've been disastrous and the PS3 power would've been put on doubt, but then again is a 360 exclusive so "Everybody loves it"

It's a trait that can be found in PS3 games. Little cons result in massive point deductions whereas, significant issues in 360 games, do not deter the perfect scores (almost) they get.

I'm not criticising 360 games, Mass Effect looks amazing, I'm questioning this review system here. Why do these companies find it in themselves to be bias against PS3 games - when they themselves struggle to find little wrong with it, yet dismiss it, and when it comes to the 360 - they can highlight and criticise it for issues like framerate and A.I, yet still give it an amazing score.

Maybe it depends on them trying to appeal to the mass, and that being 360 owners. Maybe if the PS3 had the biggest installbase, it would get a similar treatment.

Reviewers play it safe. To appease the larger install base which is 360 at the moment. So of course 360 will get the higher ratings. Combine that with strong viral marketing from Micro$hit and mainstream reviewers like IGN and Game$pot getting a paycheck under the table.

PS3 will start pumping out games that reviewers cant deny. MGS will receive 10/10/10/10 across the board and theres nothing any Bot can do about it.

I have been reading lots of responses on here....and I do wonder myself how "significant" the slowdowns and poppins really are. After all...the game is scoring really high.

So is it just minor graphical flaws to the point that it knocks the game down from being a 10? Or are they really an issue? I honestly cant say until I play it but I tend to think they are more minor than even IGN led us to believe. Because if they really were that noticeable and that much of an issue this game would be getting killed in the reviews for it. A hyped game like this wont get away with major issues like that...it just wont. Reviewers would be coming at the game with an axe to chop it down left and right if it were the case imo.

I mean just look at what reviewers/Press did to "Too Human" and their beta / demo build for E3 2005? They rapped that game and that wasn't even a final build but merely a demo/beta build.

IGN gave this game a 9.4 with all the negatives that they stated. Those are not "minor issues" those are huge problems. Framerate is not stable and there are a lot of glitches and bugs such as you may have to reset the game to be able to continue because you got stuck or you can't shoot. I don't know about you guys but these are big big problems in my opinion.

But This Game is a 9.4? That's a really good score, but I don't see how people would want to put up with all the highlighted issues for $60. Many individuals, including myself, have already been turned off by the numerous bugs, glitches, and graphical issues of Assassins Creed, and so this score actually seems quite inflated. The review makes the game seem like it's a 7.5.

I dont understand how people just trounce games like Mass Effect or Uncharted because of what some reviewer said on a website. I have watched plenty of movies that got bad scores from these so called expert movie critics and came away very satisfied. I am glad I didnt listen to the reviews. I would have missed out on a great experience.

Videogames are the same way. I dont let this website dictate what should be a good game or a good console. As an owner of both the PS3 and 360 I get to choose which games are "AAA" and which games are not. Just remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think this is a great site for checking up on gaming news, but some of these extreme fanboy comments really give this site a black eye.

I think that anybody that owns both consoles can agree that both the PS3 and 360 are great. Both consoles have great games. I wish we would stop hating on the other console just because you dont own it. Stop hating on games just because you cant play it on your console.

Does anybody else out there think that the only reason some of these games are getting 9's and 10's is because they're "next gen", meaning that the visuals and gameplay mechanics are so much more advanced than in years past? Are reviewers simply stunned by what these machines can do that they can't be objective? It just seems like every game that comes out gets lots of 9's and 10's when it might not deserve it, while some games get lambasted undeservedly (Lair). Fire away.

I have to agree that it seems that a lot of Xbox games are getting insanely high ratings regardless of flaws.

Halo 3 was not the perfect game. It is in DIRE need of a lobby system for the multiplayer, and they once again copied and pasted the level designs over and over. It got so many 10/10s it was ridiculous, then a week later I saw a multitude of articles complaining about it from the same people that gave it perfect scores. (it's still a great game, but I'm saying 8.5-9 tops)

This Mass Effect review sounds the same, loads of complaints and yet still an exceptional score, yes R&C gets praised for how amazing, and polished, and tight, and enjoyable, and smooth it is, yet it gets slightly lower reviews overall.

I know I only mentioned 360 titles there, but it's true for lots of games regardless of system. I have lost serious faith in reviewers. I am no longer in the camp of people that just look for the final number and move on. I read the reviews and find reviewers that are intelligent. It's the only chance anymore, without actually playing them, to find out if a game is good.

theres no bias from reviewers,ok...its you guys that cant accept the FACT that the 360 has the FAR better exclusives...if the ps3 has mass effect,id not only buy a ps3,id buy the game...the fact remains that the ps3 does not have a killer app as of yet..uncharted and ratchet might be solid titles but there comparable to games like perfect dark zero and kameo...there good fun games,but not a true next gen experience...in fact if uncharted's best attribute is its graphics,then why does kameo look far nicer looking..seriously the bias is from us,not reviewers,the 360 has the better exclusives BAR NONE....

first things first:

I *LOVE Bioware, i *LOVE the KOTOR games, and Mass Effect is the one game that has seriously been making it hard for me to hold off buying a 360 until next year.

with that said, i found this review angering. ign has a serious case of double standards here.

Uncharted gets praised for it's graphics. the game has no slowdown, no AI problems (those that have played the game know how vicious the AI is), and is drop dead gorgeous. facial animations and character animations are great. gets a 9 in graphics.

Mass Effect has texture issues, and "Unfortunately, the engine can't keep up and slowdown is rampant," yet also scores a 9 in graphics. to me, that sounds like, at the least, an 8-8.5 for graphics.

Presentation: Uncharted: "The whole thing has the polish of a major motion picture and goes out of its way to immerse you in the experience with amazing cutscenes, music and more." 9.5.

Presentation: Mass Effect: "A new high mark for storytelling in games. Gameplay can be confusing at first due to a lack of good tutorials." 9.5. Penny Arcade also seems to have some issues with the user interface and lack of tutorials. sounds like a 9.0, not 9.5 to me.

Sound: Uncharted: "From the low instrumental piece accompanying the opening screen to the sweeping score that runs throughout the whole game, this is what videogame music should be." 9.5

Sound: Mass Effect: "An unprecedented amount of top-notch voice work." that's all? they gave it a 10 for "An unprecedented amount of top-notch voice work?" uh, ok, i guess.

Gameplay: Uncharted: "This game is flat-out fun to play. Leaping from ledges is awesome, shootouts are fun, and the occasional vehicle section is a nice change of pace. Still, the pirate battles can be a bit much." 9.

while i'm sure Mass Effect rocks (i mean, it's made by Bioware). i'm just failing to see ign's logic for scoring the game the way they did. there are games out there that *DON'T have AI, framerate, loading, and glitches issues (uh, *UNCHARTED: DRAKE'S FORTUNE, for one), that have scored *LESS than Mass Effect (Uncharted again).

personally, i think Uncharted is a 9.5/10-10/10 game, but i've yet to play Mass Effect (i think my roommate is picking it up tomorrow, so i'll play it on his 360), so i'm with-holding judgment until i get my hands on it. and while i won't scream "IGN IS TEH BIAS!!" i do feel the need to question them on how they review PS3 and 360 games. because there clearly seems to be some double standards going on here.

Are gamers not bothered with incomplete games anymore? This is another example of IGN's biased rating system: 9.4/10 isn't the overall rating of the game. It's the amount of $10,000s of dollars they received out of a perfect $100,000.

But seriously, developers shouldn't be rewarded for pushing a console beyond it's limits. Why do you think MGS3 graphics weren't released within the 2nd year of PS2's life? BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T HAVE RAN PROPERLY!

It took until almost the 'end' of the PS2 for those kind of graphics to run smoothly. If a system can't handle the game, the onus should be on the developer to spend more time either compressing or decreasing the amount of data they expect the console to eat through.

Why do you guys think Crysis isn't available on console yet? You would think money-hungry EA would rush it out on multiplatform, but they actually have some respect for gamers. When a graphically superior game like Crysis can run smoothly on a console, it will then be released for consoles.

It is no surprise that this game has framerate issue, cause Bioware has a track record of games that had these same problems. Eventually there will be patches sooner than expected. Despite the problems in this game at least there is no mention of repetition like Assassin's Creed( that game by the way is seriously repetitive). I reserve this game so I will be my own critic.

Well that makes 13 games that average 90% and up on the 360 while the ps3 only has 2 and both those games are better on the 360. Complete domination!

why in blue blazes are ps3/360 owners bashing/praising a game that they most likely haven't played? If you are one of the few hope have played this game and still have gripes about the score ign gave(for that matter all the great reviews), then fine, don't purchase the game or if you did return it and purchase something else. There's plenty of games across all genres to play this holiday no matter what system you own. I remember when HS got mixed reviews and various issues where pointed out as to why the reviewers thought that game wasn't worthy of a 10 or 9. PS3 owners cried,"Don't listen to the reviews. Play the game and you'll see that is good." And you know what, the gamers that heeded these words and played the game more than likely came away from the game with a great experince and would've probably scored the game alot higher than the reviewers. The point I would like to make is don't bash a reviewer or game until at least of played the game. Well I'll take that a little further. If you've played a game you don't like, fine, make a intelligent comment about what issues you didn't like about said game and keep on trucking. Just accept that the game WASN'T for YOU and keep on moving. Don't ruin it for someone else who might actually appreciate it. I played HS. I don't and never have owned a Sony console. I liked HS. I like RFOM. Maybe these games should've received a higher score. I haven't played these games in their entirety so I honestly can't say. But I would purchase them based off what I played. Now this leads to why I THINK that ps3 games are judged harder than 360 games. I think they are judged hard simply because of all the hype SONY did with the power of the ps3. I think they expected so much more from that console as opposed to what the 360 offers. When that happens,which might be next year if MS doesn't get their butt in Gear(get it gear as in gears of war,corny I know),they you guys will see 10's or whatever. This is just my theory and I can be totally run so don't burn me down to the ground please. And lastly I the reason I believe that even though ME has frame rate issues and all that, the game is receiving crazy reviews is the fact that its offering game play or immersion like no other game before it. I mean if you look at EVERY review, good or bad that talk about the conservations and the excellent story. What falls in between that is where the gamer decides whether the game is simple good or great I guess. But I think thats why the game still mantains a high score because these areas of the game or so well conceived that it simple overshadows the negatives.

I'm happy to say that this might be the definative purchase this Thanksgiving. Hopefully, no one notices that the turkey's smaller thanks to money problems.

Man I just don't unerase why people bash each other for owning a game console. While I do not agree with the way IGN reviews games; These are just opinions of people. I've see many members give logical and sound explanations about games and their objections to review sites giving unfavorable scores to games that may or may not deserve the scores they receive. The difference between the two people is that those who are giving the reviews are "professionals". It's their job.
On another note, Mass Effect looks like a shooter to me. In my book it's a shooter with RPG elements and not the other way around like the reviewer says it is. Still, I'm going to wait until the better RPG's (in my opinion) to arrive: The Last Remnant, Lost Odyssey, and yes even Final Fantasy XIII(whenever it is released)

comparing uncharted to mass effect is unfair to bioeware...uncharted is a game most developers could make...mass effect on the other hand is art and naughty dog does not have the talent in its studios quite yet..please stop comparing the good uncharted to the grounbreaking mass effect...on another note there is no bias,its just FACT that the ps3 has no special games..well actually you guys have cod4,assasins creed and oblivion,but you dont have exclusive games that rival the brilliance of mass effect,gears and bioshock..seriously the game is getting on average 9.5s from everybody,with the occasional low score that is bs and just trying to get traffic on their website..the game is a freakin masterpiece,and thats why most revewers point out the tech issues,bevcause if it wasnt for that the game would be the highest rated game of all time,but of course for now that belongs to mario galaxy...uncharted and ratchet are reviewed really high for what they are actually...id bet that kameo is better than ratchet,yet many reviwers felt that rathycet was slightly better.....the ps3 is an average system at best,its not as powerful as the 360,and the games arnt as good...the facts hurt,i know

I guess when your highly anticipated games turn out, very dissapointing (Lair) to mediocore(HS) to good but not killer apps(R&C, Uncharted) you have to blame somebody, look at all the whinning and complaining about the scores, the bottom line is ME is a great game it deserves a 9.4 from IGN, it deserved the 10 from Gamedaily, it deserved the 8 from Eurogamer, WHY? because thats what the hell EACH of these HUMAN reviewers felt it deserved, I dont know how many times I have to make this point to you "slow" kids, reviews are NOT scientific, NOT linear equations, NOT an absolute= in the end its not as if theres only one source(review) for a game thats exactly why metacritic and other similiar sites exist and the reality is that score will reflect what the majority of *professionals OPNINION is of the game, if you still have a problem with that, dont worry because the best thing about a FREE SOCIETY is NO ONE DICTATES to you what YOU have to BUY, YOU CAN BUY THE WORST RATED GAME OR YOU CAN BUY THE HIGHEST RATED GAME yep thats right Mario Galaxy is rated very highly, but guess what I could give a sh!t if it was rated a 15 out 10, I dont care about Mario, so you see sonykids this 9.4 from IGN doesn't have to mean sh!t to you, nope its all up to you, but what we dont need is more whinning and crying from sonykids just because their miserable about their exclusive games= its NOT my problem sonykids, blame sony=

The game is bloody amazing but i seriously hope bioware patch this game big time. I know this is Bioware's first engine for the 360 just Epic's gears of war which was filled with glitches but i hope the sequels get optimsied properly.

the game gets high praise despite it's flaws is one issue.Take it up with the reviewers. Personally, i'd like to know where the integrity of dev's is? Since they think its ok to release a game with such flaws! Said it before and i know i'll being saying this again.Todays developers are greedy to an extent never before known in the video games industry. Many modern devs appear to have no real interest in games only lining their pockets. Now i know many of you see nothing wrong in pursuing wealth for it's own sake,but for me without purpose or fulfillment it's empty. If you are going to develop games, then do it with a passion and desire that demands perfection. don't do it simply because its easy money.Too much business, not enough art! Needless to say i won't be buying a game with so many flaws,but hey, you guys enjoy your bug ridden, sloppy software. At least someone gets a new porche out of it, so that's all good then.

Their highest rated, best remembered, socially loved franchise... and they have small team working on it for the past 2- 3 years?

Absolute garbage company along side all the heads that made Andromeda.

Maybe Saudi Arabia make something out of this.

overall if they could get CDPR and quadratic dream to help them make the game that would give me hope for the game
