“Darksiders 2 = Zelda + Diablo”

@XG247: Speaking with Marvin Donald, Darksiders 2's Game Director, about what he compares the upcoming sequel to.

Baka-akaB5351d ago

Wont prevent some fools to keep comparing it to GoW

Daver5351d ago

because the 1st one was like zelda and god of war...it was not similar to diablo at all. Dont know about Darksiders 2 tho.

Baka-akaB5351d ago (Edited 5351d ago )

Was hardly like god of war at all . Moe like a mix of Zedla and castlevania .

People only spoke of GoW because they saw some angry bulk dude in 3rd person and couldnt look past it . Lazy "journalists" + people who couldnt play it for more than the first level FTW .

Baddo_Ekkusuchi5351d ago

you dont see it similar to GoW cuz you looked past it lol. it was zelda w/ the puzzles and exploration and GoW with the combat including QTEs.

Spenok5351d ago

This guy is right. And hell, whats so bad about comparing it to GoW? Both Zelda and God of War are great games. And so is Darksiders.

It had elements from both games, and put them together VERY well.

Baka-akaB5351d ago (Edited 5351d ago )

Can only still disagree . It's basic combat mechanic is just that basic , and something rather standard now han Gow itself hardly invented .

Again i mostly see the inspiration being the castlevania series , zelda , and thinking about it now , a little feel of Soul reaver .

i's an action adventure games through and through , God of War not so much .

To be fair , it doesnt even matter who was copied here . But the comparison isnt done to compliment the game usually , mostly to trash it blindly

Baddo_Ekkusuchi5351d ago

oh my bad, i thought the similarities were a good compliment. never knew the game was bashed for it

Spenok5351d ago

Well, your comment here kind of negates what i said above. My comparrison to God of War was ment to be a good thing as Baddo above states. Yes, it definitly has more influence coming from Zelda and other action adventure titles. But it did have a combat system (complete with epic QTE sequences) similar to that of God of War.

I dont care how derivative this game is/was, all games are derivative nowadays, only a handful which actually try to do seomthing different, and maybe half of them are successful.

I never once thought about how similar Darksiders was to any other games because it managed to hold its own identity throughout the entirety of the game. You can say it has influences from game X and Y, but at the end of the day Darksiders was an amazing experience, and thats all that really matters.

Baka-akaB5351d ago

Dont often agree with you . But well said .

Bolts5351d ago

Not to me. The canned arena battles totally suck. I basically gave up on the game after that a few of those.

hades075351d ago

Agreed. It was one of the most enjoyable single-player experiences I had this generation. Being a fan of all things Zelda had a thing to do with that. Plus I found the story and atmosphere to be quite interesting, and Mark Hamill went a long way to making the Joke...I mean the Watcher entertaining.

Baddo_Ekkusuchi5351d ago

platinumed the first one, cant wait for the 2nd one to come.

Jdoki5351d ago (Edited 5351d ago )

Well said Quagmire.

An excellent game. Really enjoyed it.

Don't care if it was derivative, the art style, game play and story made it fun.

Darksiders 2 is a Day 1 purchase. Just a shame it's not out until next year

Darksiders was a great game, but why is it wrong if we say it actually borrowed many ideas from the other games? It clearly copied some gameplay features from God of War and Portal as well as Zelda.

Sounds like an improved sequell.

Because the PS4 has slow loading times I do prefer PS5 versions of games. The PS5 does load PS4 games faster but with a native PS5 version it loads much faster and it looks a bit better and better draw distance and such. So for me , I do want these 3rd releases for certain games and this is one of them. It’s one of my favorite PS3 games. Nobody is forced to buy it. It is not hurting anyone and it gives devs more money to make future games. These re-releases aren’t selling millions but it’s nice for people like me or people who never played the game.

It's a free upgrade for anyone that owns the PS4 and I'm assuming Xbox one version digitally.

jznrpg589d ago (Edited 589d ago )

I came back to add that it was free. Hard to be upset about a free upgrade. I would like to have a PS5 physical copy but it’s better than nothing
