Announcing DLC before a game is released.

Downloadable Content, or DLC as it is affectionately known, tends to split gaming opinion like Marmite splits office debate. There are many in the camp that it is yet another way for games developers and publishers to make more money from us poor gamers and others that just can’t seem to get enough.

This is by no means a new phenomenon, additional content has been available for to those willing to pay for it for as long as I can remember. Back in the days of the old home computer systems and early PC gaming, this came in the form of expansion packs purchased at shops on tape or disk, which always seemed to cost as much as the game itself (probably due to all that packaging). Now with the current generation of PC’s and consoles being so easily connected to the internet, they take the form of DLC.

I prefer this...Then I just get the GOTY at the end of the year...or get the game when the DLC gets bundled like KZ2/3 Fallout 3 etc

well, announcing a game will have dlc b4 release is all cool, except when they know exactly what theyre releasing, for example Ultimate MVC3, those costume packs, femme fatales, villians crap, why the f would they not just put that in the game, i guarantee anyone and would bet them $20 that theyre already going to be on the disc on make ppl pay for them at $3.99-4.99 each 'set' i understand promotion crap for retailers but still its bullshit, i remember when publishers/developers released new game content as a reason to keep playing their game, now its just a reason for them to make a few more bucks. -_-

makes me only gives a fuck less that i pirate any game thats multiplatform pc/ps3

Announcing DLC before game release pretty much kills my buying intention for that game...instead I patiently wait for a GOTY version at a discounted price.

There is no problem with announcing DLC before a game is released, because nowadays it's quite obvious DLC will come without the need for any announcements.

Heck, a bigger problem lies in the fact that some company now offer to sell you the DLC before the actual game is released (see "season pass")

I see no problem with games like Skyrim having dlc, especially if they will release content like the shivering isles for oblivion.

That's ridiculous, lol. I'm waiting for the guy that says its too cpu-intensive for the Switch 2. This game is old af and has been released like 17 times.
