Common Enemies: Why We Need Co-op

"I'm a co-op gamer. It's in my blood. Some of my earliest and best gaming memories include fighting my way through TMNT: Turtles in Time with an elementary classmate, and staying up late on weekend nights playing through the Beavis and Butthead game on the SNES with my best friend Jack." - MP1st

I love Co-op and it saddens me to see it disappearing more and more.

Shojin15343d ago

Disappearing... More like coming uncloaked. I will say I sadly miss the fact that FIST OF THE NORTH STAR Kens Rage: did not have co-op... and I would love to see more.

I think we are starting to see things waken up a bit. With the popularity of games like Portal, Borderlands, and the like I think devs are seeing that we love destroying AI with a buddy or two.

I'm a single player game. It's in my blood and the thing I'm sick of seeing in my gaming life is co-op and the co-op obsessed people who beg for it to be out in every great single player games, ruining my experience....even after a month they would go back on COD.

Co-op needs to be be only included if the game was built up and around that feature. People keep saying "Oh co-op in Elder Scrolls would be amazing" not even realising how much would probably have to be sacraficed, they would play on it, get bored, end up not liking it and go back on a online/co-op game leaving single player lovers with a crap "single" player game.

It ruined RE5....that's proof it destoys single player games. I've shown this alot but it's the best example...look at what RE5 COULD of been WITHOUT co-op.

It's fair, to each their own. I'm more of a multiplayer guy, but of course I still play singleplayer and co-op.

As long as developers are catering to all markets, I don't see a problem.

Mister_V5343d ago

You're absolutely right. Though, I think the author was more so comparing co-op to competitive MP than to SP. I think we'd all agree that there are definitely games out there that should stick to SP.

Jack_DangerousIy5343d ago

Well... If RE5 simply didn't have co-op then you would still be playing with the computer controlled Sheva.

But I understand your point and agree with it, surprisingly.

The only way I think other players should interact in a horror game is similar to what Demon Souls implemented for example:

Let's say you are trekking a long hallway, a game might increase horror factor by having online connection hook up to different players randomly. Not to the point you can play co-op with them but let's just say to the person you are temporarily "linked to" dies nearby to where you are. If you came too late, the game can trigger a scream or the sound of a body being pulverized only for you to examine a corpse a few moments later and receive ammo while reading the dead player's ID on a dogtag or something.. If the person died a second or too before entering an area and a monster is nearby, it can be shown consuming or ripping apart the "linked player" before turning to attack you.

I don't think I even ever played the first two Halo games solo, now that I think of it! It was always co-op.

X360 is the home of online/couch co-op

TheFirstClassic5343d ago

What I want is more splitscreen multiplayer. Most of my friends don't own a ps3, so it can be hard to find good games to play when they come over.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde25d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy25d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

Mortal Kombat: Flawless Victory Announced

A new book detailing the artwork of the franchise has been announced

robtion290d ago

Let me fix this title to something less click baity for you:

New Book: Mortal Kombat: Flawless Victory Announced.

Garethvk290d ago (Edited 290d ago )

The description clearly says what it is. It is not like people have to click to the site. They just have to read.

robtion290d ago

Sure they don't have to go to the site but to get to the description they already have to have clicked on it. Thus the term 'click bait'.

Rebel_Scum290d ago (Edited 290d ago )

If its a book say its a book in the article title. Everyone’s gonna think this is a new game and get annoyed reading your description.

Garethvk290d ago (Edited 290d ago )

The Mods had no issues with the title.
The first line under the image says new book and you can see it in the preview windows without even having to click to read the description.

It also says a Visual History on the image.

Rebel_Scum290d ago

On desktop and mobile the text a visual history is not visible in the thumbnail on the homepage.

I grew up on this stuff. Adding it to the art collection!

I do hope the next MK iteration goes back to the core of what made these characters appeal in the first place. A few of them lost their edge - I think I've had enough with some of the auntie designs 😂
