Cage: America has a problem with my games

Quantic Dream boss blames US marketing execs for perceiving their audience as 'gun-loving red-necks'

I don't think Heavy Rain was marketed well in the US, I don't even remember a commercial for it here. Kevin Butler definitely didn't do one for Heavy Rain. But I do remember seeing a fantastic EU commercial on youtube.

Either way Heavy Rain did well here regardless.

fluffydelusions5355d ago

Yep, Heavy Rain sold very well here in the US so keep doing what you do David and we'll keep buying :)

ABizzel15355d ago

When you make a niche game, you're going to have a harder time selling to an audience of people who specifically seem to enjoy shooters for the most part.

I for one bought both Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy, and I enjoyed Heavy Rain (haven't finished Indigo yet), so you have at least one person in America who enjoys your games.

One thing to keep in mind is to make sure your presentation, graphics, audio, story, and controls are spot on. Since the gameplay isn't as thrilling as full on action games, you have to make sure you're above an beyond those kind of games in different categories. Heavy Rain was close, but there were a few missteps (audio and controls being the biggest). The controls were fine, with the exception of walking. Pressing R2 to walk was a stupid idea.

hahahaha ... that made my day
that's why it sold over 2m
and still sell to this day ??
what about alan wake/metro/crackdown/splinter sell etc ??

why the only exclusives that sell well on xbox are gears / halo ??

you guys keep say that ps3 owners don't buy their exclusives
but we do buy them
uncharted 2 .. over 5m
god of war 3... over 4m
MGS 4 .... over 6m
GT5... over 7m
infamuos 1.... over 3m
killzone 3 ... over 2m
LittleBigPlanet .. over 4m
uncharted 1 ... over 4m
killzone 2 ....over 3m
heavy rain ... over 2m
infamous 2 ... over 1m
i could go on and on but sony have too many exclusives
and all of them still selling very good

Edit:
i know i will be marked as a troll for saying the truth
but i don't care who agree or disagree with me
thats the truth and you have to deal with it

DrFUD5355d ago

"why the only exclusives that sell well on xbox are gears / halo ??"

...because with Gears and Halo you can wear the T-shirt and boxer shorts while you play the game on the TV that's right next to the Mega Blocks figures and vinyl dolls from Toys R US.

Vega755355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

so only gears and halo sells over a million you say. as they say in sport " lets check the video tape shall we"

Kinect Adventures!- over 10m
Forza Motorsport 3- almost 5m
Fable II- 4m
Left 4 Dead 2- over 3m
Fable III- over 3m
Left 4 Dead- 3m
Mass Effect- over 2m
Dead Rising- 2m
PGR4 - Project Gotham Racing 4- 2m
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction- 2m
Crackdown- 2m
Viva Pinata - 1.5m
Alan Wake- 1m

looks like there are plenty of 360 exclusives beside halo and gears sell a million and more even alan wake. but since people like to bring up alan wake when it comes to sales. how did haze and lair do sales wise

ps. note that i didn't add halo or gears in my list to prove a point since they are the only games no 360 that breaks the million sold mark

Gamer30005355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

@Vega75
i'm sorry did you just said "Kinect Adventures" ??
i talked about
xbox real game like alan wake
and you bring kinect game for kids ??

so you edit your comment
i talked about xbox exclusives
why you bring
ME/Fable 3/left 4 dead/splinter cell
they are on pc so this sales are from both

Edit 2:
thats prove you never played Lbp
it's not for kids only it's for every one
you make your own world you do what ever you want
and thats what made this game incredible

and yeah haze and lair did floped
but there is much more on ps3 look at my list and look at your's
and tell me which list is better
but oon xbox the only exclusives that worth it are gears/halo/froza
at least those are the only games i liked in that console

Vega755355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

And you put lbp in your list so what's your point again?

And I gave you sales for crackdown,Alan wake, and splinter cell
now give me lair and haze numbers

EDIT: yes i edited my comment because it sent the post before i got to finish my comment. as for ME,fable 3,L4D,SC,C are console exclusives to the 360 which have sold over 1 million.

you didn't have a problem ask

"what about alan wake/metro/crackdown/splinter sell etc"

so i answer you. why ask about them then?
now i can't list them because they aren't exclusive to 360 only but you ask about the sales of those games

DigitalRaptor5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

Oh look it's Vega75...

The guy who insists LittleBigPlanet is a casual game. Sure buddy. Keep telling that to the raging community that spends hours upon hours constantly creating thousands of mature, innovative and most importantly fun levels and content across all the games in the series. It might be a casually approachable game in a few ways, but the variety of levels is deep and impressive and the game's community consists of dedicated core gamers!

Kinect Adventures is a shallow as can be casual kids game. No BS please!

And "console exclusives"? ha. hahaha. hahahahaha. God you Xbox sillies still put me in stitches! Multiplatform games like Mass Effect, Left 4 Dead and Splinter Cell sell as well as many other multiplatform games do. That goes without saying. Might as well recall the sales numbers for BioShock, Dead Space and Brutal Legend.

Units, you are a tool.
At gaming Droid. You do realize that a large percent of the coast population comes from the Midwest right. The arrogance of both coasts is a huge turn off. Neither ie the end all be all.

What will happen if the Midwest decided not to farm anymore? How much do you wanna start paying for your food. The Midwest is the reason your alive. What have the coasts done? Importing fashion films. Things that while important to me ( a Midwestern) not essential to live. How long could you keep you and your family alive with a .306 living off the land? Not long can you skin a deer and gut it? No. So stfu you uppity prick.

OllieBoy5354d ago

You'd be praising Heavy Rain to high heaven if it was 360 exclusive.

You Microsoft Shill.

America has its share of idiots just like the rest of the world. 'gun-loving red-necks' We have these too but thankfully they reside in areas I'll never live. Those sort of people don't wander into NYC. I'm fairly certain most countries have groups they dislike. I know UK people who rave about their hatred for chavs. I'm just glad we aren't like other countries that ban games altogether.

gamingdroid5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

It's almost an entirely different world in between the two coasts. Personally, I "almost" don't consider them to really be representative of the US I know.

Stick to the coasts, and you most certainly will be fine.

@fluffydelusions

I do appreciate "freedom of speech" where developers can release games however way they want. Sure it will limit sales, but you don't have a government banning your games.

mendicant5355d ago

@droid,

The same can be said the other way around. Coming from the midwest and moving to the coast isn't exactly a nice change of pace either.

No one coast is entitled to be considered more American than the other. If anything I would argue that those in the heartland or fly over country are far more American than what you see out on the coasts.

Or is that what the t.v. tells you?

gamingdroid5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

Not to insult you, but I said "the US I know" and most likely what the world knows too through TV.

That said, traveling through mid west is like traveling through these "homogenous" populated countries/state with all the ignorance that comes with it due to lack of diversity and takes me back to living in Europe.

That has been my personal experience at least.

Fishy Fingers5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

I imagine pretty much like anywhere else, the majority prefer their games with guns in them. Of course, probably America, just a little more than most.

IAmTheTruth5355d ago

I live in America and I bought Heavy Rain, day one, brand new, and I still have it.

My work here is done, David Cage.

Goodbye.

Robotronfiend5355d ago

1) Indigo Prophecy had a great 1st half of the game, but the ending was a bunch of jumbled garbage. That is why the game never had legs for a longer sales cycle, not because the name was changed or it wasn't marketed correctly. The whole 2nd half was bad.

2) Heavy Rain was really interesting, but I found too much of the game play to be dull. I liked the story, but I didn't like having to play through things like making dinner and putting my son to sleep (and there wasn't even a dinner cooking minigame or QTE). If Heavy Rain were done as a series like a Twin Peaks thing, I'd have loved it.

3) David Cage, quit complaining, it makes you sound whiny. First its used game sales that hurt, then its not having proper marketing behind a game, then its name changes... perhaps the problem isnt everyone else, maybe its YOU.

PS- if you really want a slice of the used game market, do it yourself. Just like a car company.

gamingdroid5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

I do like your point number 3!

This has been my most anticipated Star Wars game in years. Can't wait to see what they have done.

P_Bomb492d ago

I like the accessibility option in recent games like Dying Light 2 and RE4, where you can simply hold a QTE button instead of spamming like a madman. 😌

got_dam492d ago

I thought this was canceled.

Terry_B491d ago

Nope..they just revealed it way too early, said already at the reveal it will be released in years

Miacosa492d ago

Wow, blast from the past thought this was canceled.

shinoff2183650d ago

I didn't teakize quantic dream was still around.

CrimsonWing69649d ago

Why is it taking so long for this game to come out?

ChasterMies649d ago

The departure of the lead writer likely means the story is done. The trailer for this game is amazing. Hope it comes out soon.
