Gaming a Helping Hand

Mike Deneen from GoozerNation writes:

"I recently read an article on Yahoo about a family suffering hard economic setbacks due to the present state of our country. This family had two income earners who previously held good jobs, but were now forced to take low paying, dangerous jobs in order to make ends meet. Everyday I see these stories, and while my heart goes out for each and every person, the stories all seem the same. It’s not these people’s fault that this is happening to them, but this particular story stuck out in my head only because of the last line. The man said he’d even gotten a chance to play video games, something he hadn’t been able to do in a long time."

Nothing wrong with money toward a good cause

RyanDJ5336d ago

GREAT ARTICLE. I could (and may) write a whole article on how gaming impacted my family these last four months through my 32 year old wife's sudden infection to open heart surgery. Tetris and Angry Birds kept her sane, the Xbox DVD player kept us socially normal during the hospital stay, the DS provided fun for my son during big med convos, the Wii let he and I bond, and my long-hour games padded the nights I had to stay home with the kids alone while my wife sat in a hospital....games are a GREAT benefit in times of crisis. Used right, they don't waste time...they help heal. Good on you for Extra Life, too...hope you make lots. N4Gers...donate if you can.

Hopefully McNamara is as far away from this as possible he set up shop in Australia then did nothing but complain about Australian labour laws while trying to make his workers live at the office working 24/7 on la noire punishing them for leaving at 3 am and being 10 minutes late to work at 9am the next day.

It's astonishing that none of the workers went to the fair work ombudsman as the studio would have been fined astronomical numbers

Brendan McNamara is a brilliant writer and director but he should never, ever be in charge of a studio. What he did to those devs was far beyond "crunch", and it went on for, what, 7 years? That's insane.

But I'm glad to see some of that team have come together again to create something new. A psychological thriller sounds right up my alley.
