Why Nintendo Needs Dragon Quest X

Ryan M. of iNintendo.net writes, "On June 9, 2011 fans and journalists alike eagerly awaited Nintendo's E3 2011 Press Conference for reveal of the Wii's successor. As the dust settled and the conference came to a close, many of the attendants and viewers were left with more questions than answers. However, those of you still concerned and confused about the Wii U's prospects can rest assured, because Dragon Quest X is Nintendo's first step in rectifying each of these problems."

As you can see that DQ collection on Wii is #1 this week in Japan. This will sell 10 times that the first week but the series is a staple in japan. This ensures success of Wii U in japan.

It doesn't matter about the wii U. It a new system. Square might not want to take that risk so they might make it a multi platform game.

Also Nintendo doesn't own DQ. They shouldn't keep the series on 1 platform. It unfair to people who don't own a wii or ds.

ChickeyCantor5277d ago (Edited 5277d ago )

That's just childish.
The main FF series(FF7+) was bound to PS1 and PS2 up until 12 ( not counting 11). What about VS XIII? How isthat fair?
Or so many exclusive Sony got and not Nintendo?

Nintendo is a business, and DQ means money in Japan.

If you really want it, you simply just need to buy the system. Same goes for any exclusive on a system.

Desert Turtle5277d ago

Eh, they put FF7 on PS1 instead of N64 so I guess this is repayment to Nintendo.

sashimi5277d ago (Edited 5277d ago )

Yeah and Square-Enix is a business also...So going by your logic if DQ in Japan = money then wouldn't DQ on more platforms = even more money? seeing that Sony & Nintendo each own about 50% of Japan.

ignoring 50% of the total consoles/handhelds in Japan seems like a pretty bad business decision. But then again since when has SE made any good decision this gen.

"So going by your logic if DQ in Japan = money then wouldn't DQ on more platforms = even more money? seeing that Sony & Nintendo each own about 50% of Japan. "

No going by my logic NINTENDO made sure that they could attract their folks to their console. This exclusivity surely came at a price( I take it's the publishing rights). Over in JAPAN they already love DQ so why wouldn't they just buy a Nintendo for it?
It's a super win for Nintendo and a win for SE. DQ sells a lot in Japan. Meaning that Nintendo will surely Sell tons of WiiUs( and a few Wiis along with it since it will be sold earlier than the "defined" version which will be published for WiiU) just based on DQ in japan alone.

"ignoring 50% of the total consoles/handhelds in Japan seems like a pretty bad business decision."

How Is Sony not getting money from DQ affecting Nintendo or SE? We aren't talking about SE or Sony.
It's in the end still business, and a title like DQ are bound to sell sh/t tons regardless of the console/handheld.

Nintendo took it just like how Sony took the FF franchise since the Playstation days.
You want to talk about fair? Go see people who have NOTHING.

NNGGGHH I need this game like bad.

leahcim5277d ago

WII U will be dead on arrival, smells like Jaguar to me

christheredhead5277d ago

dead on arrival? not likely.

increased 3rd party support and nintendos 1st party, they'll be just fine.

George Sears5277d ago

People always have something bad to say about any Nintendo device yet at the end they have more revenue each generation than ANY other console developing company around.

jacksonmichael5277d ago

While I disagree completely, when you think about it, the Wii U controller is basically the same concept as the Jaguar. Numerous, game-specific buttons. Also, just because you don't like something, doesn't mean it won't sell. I personally hate shooters set in the middle east, but they still outsell anything I like. The best example being Persona.

Dragon Quest XII is my most anticipated game now.

Sonic-and-Crash1742d ago (Edited 1742d ago )

i really hope to correct the music(or at least its repetitiveness) ...ooh man the game was very good but the continiuous music so damn annoying i couldnt stand it ..it was ruining the whole game

pecorre1742d ago

The music was horrible in DQ 11. It's the only time in my near 30 year of gaming that I turned the music off in a game.

Elda1742d ago

LOL! While playing DQXI I had to turn the music off as well because it was too repetitive & annoying.

I wish they’d rerelease DQVIII on consoles. They could also try localizing DQX offline

It’s nice to see this series embracing worldwide releases now

It’s funny to see DQXII boasting that the choices the player makes will matter considering how things have always been up this point

That Octopath Traveler style DQ 3 remake looks pretty good. Here is to hoping Square uses that for other franchises (*cough cough* Final Fantasy 6)

*Cough* FFVI and Chrono Trigger

Good for square Enix. It seems 2020 was a great year for everyone in gaming and even with the avengers fiasco, they still made record profit.
