Defending The Devil: Is Activision Really So Bad?

Dealspwn.com defends and discusses Activision's recent controversial business decisions - including Call Of Duty Elite and Black Ops DLC.

Dealspwn writes: "Gaming has a bogeyman at the moment; a leering spectre that's often described as "evil" or "unethical" by hordes of disgruntled gamers. I'm talking, of course, about Activision. Bobby Kotick's company has become synonymous with all that's cynical in our industry, and you don't have to wait long for plenty of aggrieved comments to appear on any article or news announcement that features their games.

But we're not sure that this anger and resentment is entirely fair. In fact, we're certain that Activision, at least in this last year, has inconsistently demonstrated a level of consideration and conscience that puts much of their competition to shame. Over the next few hundred words, we're going to explore exactly how our current perceptions of Activision's public image came about... and whether it's actually deserved...

The only thing Activision does is give people options. It's up to the gamers if they want to take advantage of these options.

gogospeedracer5393d ago

I really don't see the problem with Activision. When I see one of their titles I will at least consider it. Many other companies I would keep on going.

You got to think about what you are getting for the money. Look at COD: Black Ops! I have 16 days in online play. That is 384 hours for some of you. I have friends who have over 60 days!!! That's 1440 hours! For $60 bucks that is freaking incredible! What a value.

If you want to purchase the additionals, that is your choice! You don't have to buy the map packs or use Elite.

As LogicWins said, it really boils down to the gamer and if they want to take advantage of the options available.

Activision isn't the devil. Isn't Evil. None of that nonsense. They are a company. A gaming company. They have to make a profit. How else do you think you get these games? Every game they make is a gamble. Think of that!

They aren't doing anything different than everyone else!

For you sir, I take off my hat and give it to you!

I'll be honest gogo I've got a much bigger issue with this new trend with the online passes. I can not tell you how much of a hindrance it has become with renting games.

I don't like Activision
I don't like COD
Are they bad...I would say yes but the reality
there just doing what they need to do to remain successful
Its clearly the COD fans are not looking for a hug step forward

otherwise they would of gone else were In the past 3/4 years since mw

I hate the fact that I have to buy an Activision game when Diablo 3 comes out. That merge will never make sense to me.

narutogameking5393d ago

Whats so controversial about Call of Duty Elite?
lmfao

Blues Cowboy5393d ago

I think that's the whole point: it isn't (at ALL), but loads of gamers still attack Elite anyway when the subject comes up in news posts, discussions etc.

lorianguy5393d ago

Activision are greedy swear-words but at the end of the day, it's a business and that's what they have to do.

Kotick Made $155 million from MS in the buyout, the little b*tch needs to stop whining. Thanks to this Microslop deal and massive industry consolidation thousands upon thousands of devs and other workers lost their livelihoods. This greedy piggie pervert needs shut up and f-off.

Microsoft needs to listen or risk irreparable harm to Call of Duty

Windows Central: "The money may keep rolling in, but Microsoft is the custodian of one of the biggest selling video game series in history. If something doesn't change, I fear we'll reach a breaking point and irreparable damage will have been done."

Because ms is so good at managing studios, surely they will get it right

:P

In my view, they should probably merge MP with Warzone and essentially make it free to play like Halo Infinite. The campaign/zombies mode can be $30 yearly DLC. I know this would be insanity as most COD players essentially pay the full price of the game simply for the MP. However-with a shrinking player base they may have to consider it. Making it free would bring in a ton of players.

Profchaos212d ago

To late MW3 should have been a lesson but here we are two years later with a steaming pile a shite called blops7

Nothing lasts forever, eventually something will come along to make people forget about COD

Halo killer once arrived and technically call of duty killer also arrived, its name is Fortnite

dveio212d ago

Call of Duty was riding the revenue horse and charts for ~20 years. Whether undeserved or deserved.

But I endorse everyone to remind you that Microsoft could have decided differently when they took it over.

The money was certainly there, and they could have taken their time revamping the franchise:

Current-gen tech, manageable microtransactions, not imitating Fortnite and returning to core values of the franchise's origin.

They didn't.

Let's see next year. Hopefully without the then 13 years old PS4 and One hardware.

blacktiger211d ago

you need to stop saying "let see next year"
