OnLive: 'Our hardware constantly improves... Xbox hasn't changed since 2005'

CVG: Ambitious cloud gaming service OnLive arrives on UK shelves on Thursday and could well be the next major step in digital distribution and how we play games. That's if all goes well, anyway.

But OnLive sucks, thats the problem...

fluffydelusions5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

I'm not sure it sucks as I haven't used it personally but the problem is most people aren't interested in such a device when they can go out and buy a physical copy. Plus onlive will never have PS3/360 exclusives.

ExPresident5355d ago

The problem is you don't own the stuff you buy and I don't mean that in the way of "omg I don't have a physical copy" I mean the fine print says they can take down the servers for the game after 3 years or so if they want and then you can't play it, even if you bought it.

Thats a rip.

LukaX235355d ago

I believe the service has potential, they just have to iron some things out like the input lag, slight stutters and so on. It's quite a cool service if you give it a try.

Ocelot5255355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

the reality is that many 3d tv's have more input lag than onlive.

DeadlyFire5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

Depends on the bandwidth as well though ocelot. Alot of low bandwidth connections get bad input lag. Which is why the barrier to use the service is 5 Mbps and up. I assume there is a little input lag either way, but wireless controller is about the same.

In the future OnLive has massive potential as bandwidth can only grow.

Shadow Flare5355d ago

You can try it out for free right now. It has it's disadvantages but it's actually really cool how the technology works. All the processing is done by the company and your just streamed the image. Which means you can get absolute top end graphics on any device with a monitor and Internet connection. I was pretty impressed tbh. I hope the PS4 has a feature like this because it woul mean their games could be total high spec graphics. No need for constant hardware updates. It's a little disconcerting how reliant on the internet it is but I really feel this is the future of where games will head.

And on a side note, I like on lives 'brag' feature. I'd like ps3 to implement that

fluffydelusions5355d ago

Problem is it all depends on your bandwidth and some people don't have much.

Veni Vidi Vici5355d ago

I do think this is the direction Sony and MS will end up going in the future but the future isn't anywhere close when the ISP's don't offer the bandwidth necessary to near the amount of the country that it needs to.

That being said, when I tried it, you could only get 720p quality and it lagged. Pretty bad at times.

OnLive is going to need faster internet connections before they ever have a chance with their service.

Dark_king5355d ago

@Shadow Flare actually the ps3 is already able to use cloud computing. They just haven't done it with any games.Sony confirmed this around Onlives announcement.

Shadow Flare5355d ago

That's why it's a start. Eventually all homes will get good Internet connections and it will be a lot more mainstream. I'm not singling out onlive, I'm just saying the technology is impressive, it's the future and I think Sony should consider possibly even have the technology co-exist with disc technology. Those that are able to stream games well could be playing Gran Turismo 6 in total maximum spec graphics. It would be incredible. And disc technology would still be there for the rest. It could work

Yep. Muddy graphics just kills it and the prices are a rip off

And OnLive sales haven't changed since....ever.

Chaostar5355d ago

So slim models, wifi, RROD fix, quieter fans were what?

OK so I guess they have a point as far as graphics go but you're still paying for those 'hardware' upgrades through service subscription fees.

To be clear I think Onlive is a good idea just implemented before it's time, when connection speeds are faster and more readily available then streaming media will become mainstream. Until then though dedicated physical hardware is the way to go.

r1sh125355d ago

I agree chaostar...but since the cloud does all the 'processing' why will xbox or PS not implement such technology?
Onlive is way before its time, but whos to say what sony and MS might do in the future.

Dark_king5355d ago

I thought they dropped the service fees?

Fishy Fingers5355d ago

Decent interview, I really think OnLive (type services) are the future, albeit a way off yet.

Hopefully, you read more than the headline.

iamnsuperman5355d ago

I think so to. They are the future but just not yet. Streaming games on a Playstation or Xbox or a Nintendo console is a little different than streaming it on onlive. There popularity is not the same level. Once an infrastructure is at least starting to be implemented then this type of gaming will take off. But at the current state this type of gaming is way off

Dark_king5355d ago

@iamnsuperman actually it would be better on the PS3/360 because they both would have a disc.Letting both the servers and the system to process data.

MariaHelFutura5355d ago

Hiveminded. Yes, they're the future weather people want it or not.

theonlylolking5355d ago

OnLive is great but I think that they need to have commercials on tv(I have not seen any).

If I was valve I would buy out Onlive so there could be a steam streaming service.
