BioWare say that both Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins “overperformed” compared to the company’s targets – even though those targets were “very high and ambitious”.

Dragon Age: Origins was pretty epic, I only picked it up a month ago as I had completely missed the fact it had been released.

I've just completed it but now its left a huge void in my gaming habits. :( After fighting the Arch-Demon I can't see anything else giving me the same gaming experience for a while.

Legion5375d ago

"Dragon Age: Origins was pretty epic, I only picked it up a month ago as I had completely missed the fact it had been released." What were you just released from Guantanamo or something? That game even has a sequel out now. If you have a huge void left after playing Origins then just simply pick up the Awakening expansion. Void filled.

p.s. don't pick-up Dragon Age 2 though... it lacks what Origins had.

caseh5375d ago

Lmao, I honestly don't know how I missed it. Probably had a lot on the go at the time of release and the cover for the case doesn't stand out so I never really looked at it in any stores.

Was idling on Gametrailers and saw the review so figured i would watch it, time to kill. Within 10 minutes of watching the review I was at my local gamestore scouting a copy to buy.

Thing is, in my mad dash to buy I missed the fact theres an ultimate edition that includes Awakening and on the PSN its £15, thats £2 more than what I paid for Origins!

Is it worth £15? (approx $25)

limewax5375d ago

Its a good bit of DLC, overpriced though, and all the other DLC is a rip off

Spinal5375d ago

Don't pick up Dragon Age 2 but i would advise the next step to pick up Dragon Age: The Awakening. Great expansion.

Anon19745375d ago

I agree - I think I enjoyed the Awakening almost as much as I enjoyed DAO. However, I disagree with skipping DA2. I'm having a blast with it right now. Just read the reviews, don't listen to the hate. DA2 isn't the game that DAO was, but that doesn't mean for a second it's not an enjoyable RPG.

I sat down with an old bioware employee recently who confirmed to me what a lot of people have been complaining about recently. Bioware's focus has shifted and they've made a conscious decision to focus less on the feature rich, deep rpg's in favor of creating a more streamlined, cinematic experience that's easier for all players to experience. It simply doesn't make sense for them to work 4 years on a game and put in features that 80% of players never use. I found the comment a little disheartening, but I can't say I blame them.

The Meerkat5375d ago (Edited 5375d ago )

The only issue I had with DA:O was that I could never find a good looking hat for my Wizard.

Other than that it was indeed 'pretty epic'

Edit: And I still dream about Morrigan.

Captain Qwark 95375d ago

i agree with legion completely, DA:O was amazing, one of my fav games, the sequel is one of the biggest turds i have ever played, i only made it through a few hrs before i was like fuck this....

I've played DA:O. Now I'm playing ME2. Good games, just not that great. I'd give'em both 8.5/10.

Simon_Brezhnev5375d ago

They are good games but not as great as people make it seem. I'll give them both 8/10.

Faztkiller5375d ago

Love Dragon Age games don't really get the hate for the 2nd I thought it was better

Simon_Brezhnev5375d ago

My problem with DA2 is when i beat it i thought i was halfway in the game. I was like wtf and havent played the game since. LOL

padz15375d ago

It definitely wasn't better but it doesnt deserve the hate it got. If it had been released under another name rather than a DA:O sequel then i think people would have appreciated it much more.

Legion5375d ago

I think the main issue with DA2 was that it felt like a watered down version of DAO. It felt like you had less choice in where to go. And I didn't enjoy the battles as much.

If it was a completely different title from DAO then it wouldn't have gotten as hard a review possibly? Due to not having to be compared directly with the first game in the series which was so much superior.

As one poster highlighted a conversation with a Bioware employee "It simply doesn't make sense for them to work 4 years on a game and put in features that 80% of players never use."... with that thought on a sequel you are automatically alienating 20% of your audience by leaving out a portion of the game that they enjoyed.

EA Turned Down BioWare's Pitch For A Dragon Age Origins Remake Or A Remastered Trilogy

EA turned down BioWare's pitch to work on a remake of Dragon Age Origins or a remastered Dragon Age Trilogy, according to a new report.

Terry_B301d ago

Thats a pity. A remaster Trilogy would sell a lot better than the game they released last year.

TheEroica300d ago

Speak for yourself... Some of us are tired of remastered/remakes. Maybe this industry could show a little originality or progress a thought forward. Pass on dragon age remastered. Make a competent dragon age game or fold up shop.

FullmetalRoyale300d ago

They did speak for themselves.

jambola300d ago

At what point did they indicate they were speaking for anyone else?

Lionsguard299d ago

No, they would have just ruined it by retconning things with their agenda.

Ristul299d ago

Exactly, while I love the orginal game (origins) they would have censured the hell out of it and replaced it with wokeness.

-Foxtrot301d ago

I would have rather seen a remake of Origins which added onto it with more content than Dragon Age 4

If successful they could have continued on from it ignoring the other DA games.

Christopher301d ago

Lore dump in Veilguard was very good and I enjoyed the game for that.

I would not at all be opposed to more of a 'remake' of the first game, though. Not sure a 'remaster' with better graphics and whatnot would really pull me in if it didn't include more updated controls and gameplay.

Armaggedon300d ago

Yeah, your right about the lore, and thats the reason I like dragon age in the first place. I think thats why theres such a divide with veilguard. Those that fell in love with dragon age for the rpg mechanics were gravely disappointed.

pwnmaster3000301d ago (Edited 301d ago )

Honestly I tried getting into dragon age 4 but just couldn’t man and it wasn’t that political BS, annoying yes, but not game killing. It just wasn’t it for me.
I would rather they just remake the original and stay true to the original

anast300d ago

It's not a good game. But if a few trans and gay people upset you, then you have some issues with stuff beyond politics.

pwnmaster3000300d ago

Didn’t care for it.
Annoying yes, because it’s dragon age.
That whole trans and binary just didnt fit in and felt force.

But like I said it wasn’t game killing. I just found it boring.

andy85300d ago

Ill always have the argument you only see it if you go looking for it. Im not gay or trans, it was a 2 minute scene you can literally skip and then you dont see any more of it in the game. Didn't bother me at all.

pwnmaster3000300d ago (Edited 300d ago )

@andy
It really wasn’t 2 min and it was pretty much one characters identity lol.
Like I said it wasn’t game killing.

But to pretend it wasn’t stupid the way they went about it.
Sounded like something from our world would say.
Like wtf, i want fantasy to run away from our world.
I think it’s dumb asf to use real world terminology for real world problems in a game that isn’t set in ours world/altworld

Armaggedon300d ago

Understandable, it is a very different game in many ways.

@anast
I think it was a good game. Who is actually right here?

anast299d ago

It's not a good game. People people liking something is not always a good metric. People like sh%& games, I even like a few sh&% games myself.

Armaggedon298d ago (Edited 298d ago )

Thats the understanding people lack.

People set standards of what is “good”. Interestingly, it is a strange form of confirmation bias, in which people look for evidence to support what they deem “good or bad” about a title. That is why we have so many people that say that starfield does nothing new…when that is literally what it does..something new…for Bethesda at least.

I have had people call me trash before, moments before I obliterate them in whatever it is we are playing. Broaden your awareness, and you will know of what I speak.

isarai301d ago

That's ok, they probably would've sullied it somehow anyways

LucasRuinedChildhood301d ago

What was wrong with Mass Effect Legendary Edition?

Terry_B300d ago

Miranda Lawson..and a bit more.

franwex300d ago

Right? I’m actually glad they left it alone.

Tried it before, doesn't work. I tried to to play a Dalish archer but ended up being a Dwarf Noble warrior again, must be a bug

OtterX523d ago

Next year is tomorrow, so you'll start a new character tomorrow, right? 🤔

OtterX523d ago

It's not now, at least where I live. It's 2025 as of 2 hours ago. :P

Bercilak523d ago

Seriously? I play every playable character there is: a male human noble.

TheColbertinator523d ago

My preferred origin is Dalish Elf Archer that recruits the Templars, Baelen's Dwarves with Golems and Dalish Elves. Took me 3 playthroughs to lock down a "true" file for me. What a game.

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast545d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine545d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast545d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman545d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast545d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

IAMRealHooman544d ago
