Why the 3DS Slide Pad Will Actually Be Great

Fork This Llama writes: A "prime example that Nintendo botched the 3DS’s launch is that dreaded second analog stick attachment, the Slide Pad. When it was first announced alongside Monster Hunter 3G, a lot of Nintendo fans freaked out, me included. Here was another accessory that 3DS early adopters would have to get for their 3DS to make it what it should have been at launch. And besides, the thing looked gigantic and hideous, uncomfortable, and it seemed to warn that Nintendo would release a revised 3DS even sooner than expected.

However, as more news came out about it, I started to see the Slider Pad not as a failure, but as something that will bring nothing but good to the system. Here are five reasons why:"

It won't be great....they should of had a second analog stick to begin with. Instead they're charging current 3DS owners extra for it.

People are missing the point here

jacen1005359d ago (Edited 5359d ago )

its a mistake they fixed deal with it, its only gonna cost roughly £15 and your gettin extra button aswell. no doublt a new design ds will come next year but for now this is what we got, they all have there downfalls what about the costly memory card for the vita its nealry the price of a 3ds alone $125 for a 32gb memory card in japan and be assured the uk will pay more than that for it , and then the vita external battery how much is it not gonna be im nearly afraid to think going by there memory card price .you could also call the vita battery a mistake making the system a 2200MAH and then bringing out an external 5000mah so suplement for the poor internal battery, how big of a blunder is that?

WhiteLightning5359d ago

Please don't compare things like memory cards and especialy the battery from the PSV (Seriously who is going to play for over 5 hours) to something like a second analog stick which could of helped developers in the early days when the 3DS was being made, make better launch games.

I mean out of a battery life which is the same as the 3DS's to a second analog stick....hmmm which one seems more important.

and no...people shouldn't just deal with it, a lot of people put faith in Nintendo and bought one at launch only to see the price fall in a matter of months, yet what do they get...downloadable games most of them already have.

I love how since it's Nintendo people should just deal with it and get over it. If this was Microsoft or Sony it would be a totaly differen't story. I mean people like you are already taking something like the PSV's battery to something like a second analog stick.

MrSpace5359d ago (Edited 5359d ago )

Woah...woah..woah.

Get over it, are you serious. I bought a 3DS at launch, payed all that money, then watched them announce a price cut, give me games I already bought and then watched them announce a crappy add on basicaly admitting they f*cked up and screwed us over but still want me to buy it...................and your telling me as a Nintendo 3DS launch buyer to "get over it". Sorry mate it's not that simple. God...Nintendo fanboys, they are the worst.

@Shut the hell up....your just coming off as a smug arsehole, yeah people have money some don't.

Just because you have got over it you feel like others need to aswell.....get lost you stuck up troll.

Not everyone is made of money.

Heres a tip........Nintendo did something wrong, YES SOMETHING WRONG, I know it;s very hard to get by in your books but they did and they need to learn not to screw over their fanbase again. If we were all like you, they wouldn't learn and they could easily do it again. Look at the COD crowd, Activision know they could f*ck around their fanbse and get away with it, Capcom thinks so because even though we call them and their games people still buy them to "try them out" or "give them a chance" when all their doing is giving them a happy sale.

"get a razorblade and get them cut"

So you basicaly want me to slit my wrists....you would want to wish that upon a human being. Wow your sick......

StbI9905359d ago

I bet you love it from behind mate, right up there.

gaffyh5359d ago

This is just reaction to PSVita's dual analog sticks, because Nintendo has seen the great reaction that the PSVita has got for simply having two analog sticks and they want to copy it.

By copying, it means that technically they could get some games becoming multiplat on 3DS/Vita, even though the graphical fidelity on Vita is much better. But I guarantee that that's what they're hoping for, because if you look at the Vita, it offers pretty much every feature that the 3DS offers apart from 3D, and on top of that it has better graphics, 2 sticks and a back touchpad.

Baka-akaB5359d ago

there is nothing fixed there . It's a bit better with the option but let's stop pretending dvs will add support for it from the get go . ONly way would be some scecret intel from nintendo letting them know a redesign is on the way with a second nub .

BlmThug5358d ago

Its looks and feels like c**p

Knushwood Butt5358d ago

This person probably thought Wii Speak would be great...

StanSmith5358d ago

Why are people still arguing over this? Look, Nintendo screwed up. 3DS owners got shafted with the price cut. Followed by the slide pad addon.

As a 3DS owner what am i supposed to do? I understand how nintendo screwed me but what can i do? I'm not gonna sit around crying about it. I'm just gonna get over it.

Personally, i feel Sony is screwing me by only adding firmware features for playstation plus users. I payed £450 on launch for my PS3. What do i do? Thats right. I get over it.

The console makers, the publishers and the devs have been screwing us all over since the beginning of this gen.

yes the best about it is the people who have delt with it and got over it are nintendo 3ds owners its people that dont even own one and have no intention of owning one come in and complain just for the sake of it, have you got a 3ds by the way?. £15 is an easy fix for now

jacen1005359d ago (Edited 5359d ago )

ok dont get over it hire yourself a violin player get a razorblade and get them cut, you sound like a kid who saved all his pocket money and feels like he lost all his lifes savings after the price cuts hahahah , im no fanboy either.

EDIT yea get them cut cause the way you are going on you sound like you have schizoaffective disorder seriously , and you have issues your going on about Activision Capcom now hahaha , goto bed kid , and im not rich i just dont cry over spilt milk

TKCMuzzer5359d ago

Money might be nothing to you but some people do have to save for certain items. Any way that is not the point, 3DS launch owners have been done by Nintendo and this add on is a slap in the face and admittance of poor foresight.
You do come across quire arrogant in your comment. Any launch 3DS owner should feel pretty peeved with Nintendo, if I had bought a launch console and then seen it have it's price slashed within months and then an add on like this come out I would not be impressed. It's not about the money, it's about the principal, Nintendo really should have designed the 3DS better.

jacen1005359d ago

hey how many consoles/handhelds in history have had price cuts? all of them lets all complain i want every penny back that i have paid for every console over the last 10 years that i lost after price cuts

WhiteLightning5359d ago (Edited 5359d ago )

Good point

@jacen100

Oh my god, what's wrong with you. Telling someone to cut themself.

"hire yourself a violin player get a razorblade and get them cut"

"yea get them cut cause the way you are going on"

Jesus....how low can you go. You can have arguments with people on here fair enough but to say that to someone. I have no idea why someone like you has 5 bubbles, all your doing is saying sly, low comments to people. Do you feel good about yourself sicko

TKCMuzzer5359d ago

You are definitely missing the point. Consoles do have price cuts but NOT within months of launch. You are completely missing the concept. By Nintendo reducing the price so soon after launch and by so much they are admitting they are in trouble, therefore they are passing on uncertainty about the confidence in their own product. Then this add on, it just adds to the problem.
Yet again it's the principal not the money, You pay the launch price as you think that's what its worth then months later Nintendo say otherwise.
You go on about money as if you can burn it at will, if you can great but that does not mean others are so fortunate.
I don't mind spending my money but at least I want to feel I got my moneys worth.

GuruStarr785359d ago

OK, I've got no problem with it, but I've always been ok with using the touch screen as a second analog stick like we did on the DS with games like Metroid, all the Call of Duty games and Dementium.

I'm not sure whether I'm getting this..... For starters, I'll have to un-install my Nyko extended battery on my 3DS, which gives me an extra 3 hours battery life on my 3DS.

The touch screen works great already, I liken it to a mouse with it's accuracy in aiming....and from what I've read, Monster Hunters touch screen will have a section on it devoted to touch screen right analog control for camera control.

Anyone else have the Nyko battery that is concerned like I am?

Nintendo lost the competition before the vita hit the markets !!

IM_A_NINJA5359d ago

I'm sure you probably thought the DSI had lost when the PSP GO was about to hit the market as well huh? I think it's funny that the 3DS gets a ton of hate, but now with it's price drop they are selling crazy good.

Of course were going to see a redesigned version next year with another analog stick. If you think the Vita is going to outsell the 3DS at $250 then your probably going to be in for a surprise and not a very good one.

I personally would like a Vita, but at $250 before you buy a single game is too expensive for me, I don't care how much tech is in the thing. I'm sure there are going to be tons of other people just like me, that feel it's too expensive to justify spending all that money on something you don't need and wont use as much as your home consoles/PC.

I mean you can get a new PS3 and a game for the same price.....kind of spotty pricing IMHO.

NESpower5358d ago

The media is just setting up PS fans like they did with Move. Then as soon as Nintendo wins the holiday...the focus will turn to the doom of Vita. It's how they get through the day...lol.

Jio5358d ago

Nintendo fans say the 3DS was a great price when it was $250 even though the tech was old. Nintendo fans say the Vita is expensive now that the 3DS is $169, even though the PS Vita has many powerful features...I don't understand?

StanSmith5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

Vita has always been more expensive than the 3DS.

What you should be asking is why do Sony fans always scream that a console has old tech because it hasn't shown to be as powerful as Sonys offering?

Seriously, you make it look obvious that you have no idea what the 3DS is like. It's tech isn't old. It uses glasses-less 3D. How is that old? It looks better than the PSP. Again how does that mean its tech is old?

Judging by your logic, vita must be using old tech seen as it's tech has been available in multiple devices for the last few years.

People need to get off this old tech bandwagon.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS47d ago (Edited 47d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

AuraAbjure72d ago (Edited 72d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer73d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot73d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box73d ago (Edited 73d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno73d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay73d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno71d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK72d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
