What about "online Passes" and that sort of thing? It's killing the pre-owned games market and, honestly, I ain't no millionaire.. so I've got some pretty great deals on trading and buying used.

I think Online passes is definitley one of the worst things to come about this generation

I'd hate say it but the 3DS is the start of the next-gen, as bad as the graphics are (for a system with [or could have used] 2010 hardware). The same goes with the PSV and Wii U.

I'll pretty much place DLC from 1-10 that is totally destroying gaming.

wheres online passes? and downloading keys to unlock content on the disc?

i guess they can fall under DLC..

FF13 was ok not bad not good ok! But i know all those bad memories of FF13 will be washed away when i play FF10 HD when it comes out! YAY-YEAHHHH!! XD

The game industry still had creativity, and developers weren't afraid to create games starring talking animals, colorful characters, or characters that appealled equally to teens and adults.
Yes there was once a glorious time when everything was not trying to be the biggest baddest space marine shooter there is. There were barrel rolling animals in airplanes, reject geico mascots (Gex), mango chomping mammals that foiled evil plans of mad scientist (Crash), classic beat em up like streets of rage, golden axe, and final fight.
why even last gen, PS2 saw the most diverse library and it was well rewarded for that, with it's imaginative games like the DMC series, Kingdom Hearts, DDR, Monster Rancher, Harvest moon, metal gear solid, jak and daxter, and so many other creative games.
This gen that creativity seems all but lost. Even tho I feel Nintendo still has their spark, they alone cannot emulate the balance of realistic with fantasy that the PS2 had last Gen. IF the Dreamcast would have realeased these gen with comparable hardware, it would have won easily, because it was so full of new ideas and games we never see anymore. What's the last First person Swordfighting scifi adveture based in futuristic tokyo you played?

I told a friend earlier that next gen I am backing the WiiU, but if Nintendo goes shooter heavy, I'm backing out of console gaming and just replaying the classics from SNES, Genesis, PS2, Dreamcast, and the gens past.

Gaming needs a wake up call, and I think Nintendo realizes this as well as a few other companies like 5th cell, Naughtydog, and arguably Capcom. That is why I believe they refuse to give in to this crazy new fad of unoriginality. Nintendo dared to released endless ocean in this day and time, 5th cell gave birth to Scribblenauts, Naughtydog crafted the masterpiece that is Uncharted, and Capcom, tho repetitve sometimes, gave us such classics as the capcom versus _______ games and Monster Hunter.

If gaming is to survive, we need more innovators and less imitators.

shovelware on the wii yes, but the wii itself has some great games, the metroids and mario games are EPIC!

Gotta love how the author is almost saying that Sony stole his CC details. It was the hackers that did. Sure, the PSN hack was one of the worst things to happen thi gen and Sony did wrong by not encrypting the CC details among other things properly, but saying that Sony wanted to aid the hackers is just stupid.

I wholeheartedly agree with the two last ones (demise of local MP and DLC, patching etc.) PSN trouble and RROD was terrible as well, but some of these I actually think was good for the industry. I mean, motion controls are fun enough! (gesture controls, however...)

RROD was the worst thing for me, I spent $400 plus tax for a new console and it was a POS, that got replaced 4 times with more crap that broke down.

If I MS didn't have the best games for the first half of the gen I would have boycotted MS. Even now, I'm unsure if I'll buy support MS next gen.

I'd replace RROD with general hardware failure rate. It seems to be quite common with this generation on most of the popular platforms. My PS3 (fat) for example, it just went YLOD last month.

The online community thingy seems wrong aswell, more online capability is good, it gives us freedom. Some guys are just douches but what can we do, that doesn't make the service a bad thing eh?

Generally only the core base hate Square Enix and and FF. You really think its easy to make an executive decision to even release another FF title this Gen period? They may have lost allot of the core fanbase, but as usual the casual crowd will appreciate it.

The casual is an annoying but yet an untapped crowd of people that pretty much by whatevers marketed to them and they considered the "Fillers" when it comes to game sales period.

Like FF, half the casual may or may not have never played the pass FF but pretty much rocketed the game in sales with pretty good reviews. Which could mean a sequel next Gen. So consider you're selves Lucky you guys have a former classic this gen. While I'm still Hoping (heavy Infasis on the word hope) That they'll announce classic franchises returning or re-booted, that I love.

To me I am really disappointed in the new generation of gamers especially after recently hearing the news of the blind hatred giving to the dying girl who's only wish was to be in NHL 12. EA repected her wishes and placed her persona into the game, with hyped up stats, and it really drew a smile on my face.

However it was short lived after hearing of fans reaction to the game's new character, it was utterly sickening.

The author forgot to mention the overabundance of multiplatform games. It effectively defeats the purpose of owning 2 or more consoles. What's the point of a console war when all the consoles have the same games? The point of a console war is for one to have the games the competition don't have that represents its fullest hardware potential. You know, that unique gaming experience that just cannot be found on any other console. That's why Nintendo and Sony ruled the industry. By having exclusives, they were able offer gaming experiences that just simply could not be found anywhere else in turn raising the value of their consoles. Multiplatform games are good for developers and the general audience because of accessibility and maximal sales potential. But it's bad for console-manufacturers because unless their in-house games are really cathes on enough to help sell consoles, they risk being reduced to clones of whatever's already out there.
