I think the PS3 will do Ok. But most people are just going to wait and see how they do 1st. $600.00 - %500.00 just for the console. Most folk will just stick with the PS2 or Jump into the 360. The Wii is a good opion too.

the reason I asked ,is because if both version are almost the same except for a few new vains and few more features.Shouldnt the ps3 version of fight night take up a little more gigs then the 360 version but still fit on a dvd 9????? right

Yeah there is one little tiny thing Sony forgot to mention. XBox 360 didn't have any next gen competion for a while giving them a chance to have a big intall base. And the PS3 will have the 360 with more games, no production issues and the wii. How is that better for Sony?

Alright, let's look at the numbers then:

1. Sony claims it is launching with 400k/100k. They claim they will ship 1M-1.2M in NA and using the launch ratio, that means they claim they will ship 1M/250k on the low end and they claim they will ship 1.2M/300k on the high end. That means they are claiming they will ship 1.25-1.5M by year end. That's assuming that their estimated plant efficiency is correct but hey, they haven't built a single one yet so I'm sure it's accurate. Hmm... That's 500k-750k short of 2 million. Is that a hint of overpromise I smell? Btw, the 360 shipped 1.5M by year end AND they launched in Europe too.

2. Wow, they are claiming they will manufacture 500k in the next 10 weeks then they claim that they will manufacture 1.5M in 5 weeks. That's a 6 fold increase in manufacturing efficiency. Impressive. Reality check, even if they could concieveably improve manufacturing efficiency by a miraculous 200% in the last 5 weeks, that would only be 1M by end of year... Man, that overpromise smell is really getting strong...

3. Do we really need to talk about how much 6M by the end of March REEKS of overpromise?
Also, look at it this way, MS shipped 900k-NA/500k-Eur/100K-Jap by year end. Now, if MS had stuck it to Europe the way Sony is doing now, then using the NA/Jap ratio above they would have shipped 1.35M-NA/140K-Jap and launched with 600k in NA.

It's amazing how all the numbers tumble out when you look closely at them and then stick it to Europe, doesn't it? It'll be even more interesting to see how many units Sony ACTUALLY ships, not how many they claim they will ship.

Microsoft did the right thing.

It's almost nice to see Sony try a pr move at this point, but frankly they've said too much and produced too little. Sony, bring your console to market...then we'll talk.

Oh, one other thing. The limited numbers of 360's was also due to the fact that they were shared globally. It upset people, but I agree with the sentiment that I'd rather give everyone a chance to get one. You just left Europe feeling like poo on the bottom of your shoe.

Sony launch was in fact a big fat zero since it was cancelled last year. If Ms waited till this november they would have launched with 5 million units. BSony

About Sony, its lies, etc., look how this info is affecting the WHOLE industry-- Sony, EA and Activision stock is all down, and you'd think this info would be good for Microsoft, but their stock is down a little, too. Sony HAS to try and spin this as a positive, because their COMPANIES EXISTENCE is hinging on the PS3 driving Blu-Ray as the market leader for HD movies. If you look between the lines, BLu-Ray has caused the delay/cutback in the PS3 launch twice now, and the stand-alone Blu-Ray players already out are getting creamed by the Videophile media-- it just doesn't look as good as HD-DVD right now, so how can you justify paying twice as much? Soon, Microsoft will announce the pricing/strategy behind their add-on HD-DVD drive, and even if they sell one to only 15% of the installed 360 base when it releases in November, they will have more HD-DVD players on the market than Sony will have PS3's. Add in to this mess the Wii launching in Nov. cheaper that both of its competitors, with around 5 million available world-wide, and Sony might as well just throw in the towel.

This information about Sony's drastic cut in available PS3's at launch is quickly making its way to the average consumer. At the Gamestop I work at, we sold out of Xbox 360's this week for the first time in months (we usually have 10-12 availble per week, and sell about that many, so stock has been constant.) One person who bought one was waiting on the PS3 and gave up when he heard the news, another wanted to get a system for his kids for Christmas, heard about the PS3 thing, and bought a 360 now "just to make sure they aren't gone" before Christmas as well. As a side note, Nintendo needs to announce pricing, launch date, launch titles, and number of systems available ASAP, to capitalize on Sony's blunders and not let Microsoft have ALL the momentum for this Christmas.

It's very hard to go onto a video game website, and not see contradicting articles about upcoming launches. Sure, Sony may put out 1 million units fast, they could put out 2 or 3, but they could also have another problem, and not make it until March. And keep in mind, this article is based on a Sony Rep's comments. It's not based unbiased facts. It's based on somebody who is payed to talk up Sony's products... You probably heard the news already, but in case you missed it you can check it out here. Sony announced today it won’t be able to launch the PlayStation 3 simultaneously around the world as it originally promised, postponing the launch of the console in PAL territories (Europe, Russia, Middle East, Africa and Oceania) until March, 2007.

This is not just another console delay. Here, we are talking about the world's second largest consumer electronics manufacturer delaying its next-generation console for a second time in a key territory such as Europe.

The reason? A problem with the production of the blue laser diodes required for the Blu-ray Disc optical drive. So, in other words, the console is getting delayed because of the irrational idea of using the console to impose a next-generation DVD format. That’s what gamers and PlayStation fans need to know.

If there was a model with a standard DVD drive, the PlayStation 3 could have shipped over a year ago, and gone head to head with the Xbox 360. Now, because of Sony’s ill-timed strategy, the console manufacturer that was the solid leader in the previous generation is running behind both Microsoft and Nintendo worldwide.

But the real question is, how does this postponed release in PAL territories affect Sony and above all the PlayStation 3?

Ken Kutaragi told Reuters earlier today that he doesn’t think “this time delay will cause serious damage to our PS3 business." He’s right, it might not cause a serious damage; it might simply kill the PlayStation business forever.

The Xbox 360 will be in its second year on the market while Nintendo will flood the market with its cheap, innovative approach to gaming. That means it will be hard for Sony to sell such an expensive console to gamers who either spent their money on Gears of War and Forza 2, purchased a Wii, or upgraded their Xbox 360 with HD DVD capabilities.

The only good thing out of this scandal is that with only 400,000 units for Noth America and 100,000 consoles for Japan, we’ll never know before next year if the PlayStation 3 sold poorly because of its high price or its scarce stock.

Well Ken, the truth is that by the time you launch the PlayStation 3.5 in Europe, both AMD and Intel will be offering quad-core processors and some motherboards will support two of those processors, allowing people to have 8 cores inside their computers. Plus, both ATI and nVIDIA will be offering DirectX 10-class GPU early next year, meaning you will be the only one with an older shader architecture instead of the new unified model implemented in both Windows Vista and the Xbox 360.

Ken, now that I think about it again, you might want to rename your next-generation console as PlayStation 2.5.

This is what happens when you open your big mouth and talk trash about the competition. If you fail, everyone will laugh at you. This is definitely not a good start for the PlayStation 3 and if things don’t change, the PS2 successor is destined to fail. The console is expensive, delayed and will be outdated by the time it launches. Other than the Blu-ray Disc capabilities, the PlayStation 3 won’t bring anything new in terms of interactive entertainment.

Just pray Halo 3 doesn’t come up next March or green will be a color all Sony executives will forever dream with.

Good things come to those who wait! Patients is a virtue!! If rather they get it right with the PS3 then rush out a system with average technology. Its all about the games to me and I have waited this long for my PS3 I can wait another few months. Delays happen in this industy especially when you have a console full of the newest technology, I understand its not how you start but how you finish!

The Ps3 was announced at the same time the 360 was announced at E3 2005. Since then the 360 has launced on time and has broken sales records, games per console records, and accessories to console records. Now the ps3 on the other hand has had 2 big delays, and many dropped features and lowered specs. So to say good things come to those who wait is silly to say the least. The 360 outperforms the ps3 as far as games go and the ps3 is quickly becoming the laughing joke of the gaming industry. Europe's gaming market is twice as big as Japans and almost as big as the USA's. But they shun Europe to the side. A mistake they will pay for big time. Only the sony die hards are willing to wait. Its now time for everyone to Jump In. And the sales charts will show that by the end of the year. Watch and see.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
