Things (Almost) Every Game Should Have

Should you be able to quick-save whenever you want, in every game? No.

Should every story have Tolstoyian rich stories and characters? Yawn. Of course not.

It’s difficult to apply the working concepts of one game, one medium or one genre on to another. But sometimes it does feel like what one game lacks, another succeeds in and vice versa. No game is perfect, but learning what works can improve the medium. Here’s a list of things I think almost every game should have. Or if they’re being left out or treated like a bleeding clown giggling in a funeral home, then developers need very good reasons to leave these out.

I take it you're keen on Dead or Alive 5 then? :P

Also..what kind of idiot says The Witcher 2 is boring?

Regular save is interesting. I have played Medal of Honor Frontline recently. It doesn't have mid mission saves. Its annoying but at the same time adds to the challenge. In other games you can rush to the checkpoint to be safe but on that game it is hard to rush because once your dead you start again. Its annoying but it does add that extra level of challenge

I think that it all depends on how the developer has designed the game. Something like Deus Ex would have been a nightmare without quicksave, but in other games, set checkpoints provide motivation to get it right and make it out alive.

At first I was like, No Code Veronica on the list!? But then I seen Mainline. The list checks out, but I would personally put 2 over 4.

KwietStorm_BLM81d ago

I'll take 2 over 4 also. And even without a number, I don't see how Code Veronica, my other favorite in the franchise, isn't mainline when it's the actual sequel to RE2.

Rebel_Scum82d ago

The original RE was the best. Its not on the list which makes no sense.

The remake of it was alright but should be higher on this list.

The original RE smokes VII and Village, come on.

ivoryrolland9562d ago

i’m fine with people calling it “mainline,” but leaving out the original re1 entirely is wild, since it basically defines the whole series. i’d still put re2 over re4 for pure pacing and atmosphere, even though re4 is the more replayable game. also, the “mainline” label gets messy with code veronica since it feels more essential than some numbered entries. i swear half the time i’m reading these rankings i get derailed by random gambling tabs i opened earlier, including https://monopolybigballerli... and https://football-studio-dic... and https://red-baron.org/ which is a weird contrast to talking about survival horror.
