Nintendo Is Killing Itself

Nintendo is dying. Today the company attempted to wow gamers with an "extensive line-up that has probably never been seen before in the history of video games," announced company president Satoru Iwata, but the offerings failed to impress, Reuters's Isabel Reynolds reports. "Nintendo's attempt to rescue its failed 3DS handheld games gadget failed to dispel market gloom, triggering a 5 percent share slide and stoking deep worries for an iconic brand desperate to win back users." Nintendo's not just some one-hit wunderkind to come out of the digital revolution. For many decades the company has popped out gaming and console hits alike. But things are different now; gaming has changed. Its gone mobile and Nintendo refuses to jump on that. And its reluctance to evolve is suicidal.

I remember all those shitty articles were all approved when it was about how much Sony was failing.

Even when those articles were looking the same. Nobody to report for a duplicate...

I naturally report this crap, just saying...

iamnsuperman5360d ago (Edited 5360d ago )

That is perfectly fine.. I personally do not report the crap in hope that a healthy discussion is built around the topic. What she wrote seems like a woman scorned but something agreed with me on a small part of it. I beleive mobile gaming is different than it was back when the DS launched. I think moving towards smart phones is a much sensible option than to ignore it completely. Nintendo will not die but if they do not evolve they could be crippled in there mobile devision. This also applies to sony with the vita. I know i am alone on this thought. But I recognise for advancments in gaming to happen the companies must use the large majorty that is the casual and there cash. Do you think we could have had a PS3 or a 360 without the casual buying into the multimedia aspect. The rest of the article is utter triffe So i agree there

disturbing_flame5360d ago

Yes she's using a tragic posture to make her article fashionable.
About the mobile and Apple trend, it's clear taht the market is moving, but she can rewrite this article if she wants to talk about that and not use this pathetic tone to make things sound so doomed...

And BTW. Actually she's writting crap :

"From NES to N64 to the Gameboy to Wii, Nintendo has produced gaming systems that people want to play. "

I think she doesn't know about Nintendo story or how much Gamecube hadn't the sells expected by Nintendo, nore the N64 was not the best move nintendo have done even if the games were great. So no Nintendo has not always produced the top selling systems by the past and at that time everyone was saying things would go really bad for them and with the Wii and DS they actually showed that things can turn fast.

So yes, very cheap article.

jacksonmichael5360d ago

I hate these articles. If you're going to say Nintendo is killing themselves, you need to at least mention Xenoblade, Pandora's Tower and the Last Story.

Pozzle5360d ago

And Fatal Frame 4. I'm still upset about that one. :(

zerocrossing5360d ago

As much as I love Nintendo, it's hard to defend them when they make this many mistakes :/

Xenoblade getting a NA release would surely have been in Nintendos best interest, especially considering all the hate they are getting from fans overseas for not supporting the core fanbase.

Sithlord-Gamble5360d ago (Edited 5360d ago )

Not to mention, has anyone even considered that quite possibly that some people are just tired of playing the same old nintendo games/remakes over and over again? Yes zelda might sell systems but only to the hardcore ninty fan. Where is 3ds killer NEW ip? Also, has anyone considered that maybe all the bad press about health issues when it launched might have killed it? I've played the 3ds and IMO, glasses free 3d just isn't that great. To me, it felt more like it was images stacked on top of one another or layered; not the same 3d u get from theaters. I think all of those things need to b considered too. Im tired of hearing about the mobile market threat. It may exist but I don't think its to the effect people make it out to be. CASUAL may have interest in CASUAL mobile games, but I speak for alot of people when I say that the hardcore gamer is unmoved/uninterested in mobile phone gaming. Mobile gaming is crap and offers nowhere near the experience gained from console/handheld gaming. For those that argue casual gaming will determine the direction of gaming ... games like COD, uncharted, assassins creed, Gears of War that sold millions was the casual gamers interest/purchase? WRONG, that was due to the HARDCORE market ... u can't play those games on mobile phones. There will ALWAYS b a market for hardcore games bc that is something casual mobile games cannot offer. There have always been a market for both, difference is now is that the line seperating the two is more defined than it used to be. I play my games on dedicated systems, my WIFE plays phone games bc theyre simple and cheap. Casual gamers now have a cheaper alternative to spending $60 on a game they may rarely play to get their gaming fix. It doesnt mean hardcore gaming is in jeopordy bc its not, just that casual is just now starting to get their own individual market instead. There will always be a market for consoles/handhelds and anyone who thinks differently just arent thinking at all. You get what u pay for. The games might be cheap but will maybe last u a week, while my $60 game will last me months if not longer.

Ethereal5360d ago (Edited 5360d ago )

I agree. I hope they can turn this one around and hopefully the Wii U can bring some hope.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS46d ago (Edited 46d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure71d ago (Edited 71d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer72d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot72d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box72d ago (Edited 72d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno72d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay72d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno71d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK71d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
