Stopped reading at "Graphics matter". YOu cant be a core gamer if you are a graphic whore

EDIT: I read it I agree that the great games on the wii, but there are people to blind to look at them because they play only CoD and only see party games on it.

dark-hollow5360d ago

Sadly, yes. It isn't Bout the graphics only, but the lack of third party support and the non stopping stream of shovleware that overshadows the few good games every year.

Nintendo has a solid stable of first party developers and franchises, but we also need solid core games and third party games.

oricon5360d ago (Edited 5360d ago )

If people are whining about nintendo "abandoning" the hardcore, who abandoned who in the N64 gen and Gamecube, that third parties like Capcom had to move remove the exclusivity of RE4 and port it to the PS2 because there was no support, so it was only natural for Nintendo to try and look for a new audience otherwise they would most likely failing like last generation.

Remember Nintendo is a business they have to make money, they need to keep their shareholders happy to stay afloat, the world is not a such a naive place like most gamers think it is, money matters a lot, otherwise Nintendo would cease to exist.

Cupid_Viper_35360d ago

I really shouldn't be talking as i haven't really gamed on a Nintendo system since the SNES. I loved mario, donkeykong, but as I got more into gaming, I started playing MK and KI and castlevania and SuperContra and the likes. Those games provided me with a different type of challenges that was different feom the ones from mario. What happenned to all those other games that are not mario and twilight princess.

Like I said, Im not one to say that they've abandoned their core base, but they're certainly not as well rounded and balanced as they used to be. And I think that alienated quite a few gamers who were/are seeking a diversity in challenges. Again just my opinion

TheFirstClassic5360d ago

Graphics do matter, they're just less important than the other elements which go into making a game. Also, "abandoned" is a strong word. I didn't like the wii near as much as I did the gamecube and 64, it didn't have as many core nintendo games.

Canary5360d ago

Of course graphics matter. People who dismiss graphics entirely are just as bad (and just as casual) as people who dismiss everything BUT graphics.

And as for Nintendo abandoning core gamers... yeah. They did. In the SNES-era. Core gamers are not Nintendo's core demographic. Nintendo's core demographic is comprised of casual gamers, and nostalgia gamers.

The only time post-SNES that Nintendo has managed to appeal to core gamers was with the NDS... and credit for that success has nothing at all to do with Nintendo, and everything in the world to do with 3rd party software support.

You should read on, the article doesn't mean that graphics matter.. they don't.

iamnsuperman5360d ago

I agree with the article. It is still releasing its Mario and Zelda games which the core love. Just because there is Wii Sports also doesn't mean they have slacked off with these games

OMGitzThatGuy5360d ago (Edited 5360d ago )

With the Wii? Yea they have.

Wii U? Not so much.

VampiricDragon5360d ago

"No, Nintendo has not abandoned its core fan base. They have merely increased its fan base. This is not a bad thing, not bad at all."

We have a winner article ladies and gents

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS46d ago (Edited 46d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure71d ago (Edited 71d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer72d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot72d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box71d ago (Edited 71d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno72d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay72d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno70d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK71d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
