Is MW3 Even A New game?

I have been a huge fan of COD, Counter Strike, Battlefield, and Halo for quite sometime. I started playing COD when United Offense came out for the PC, I started playing Counter Strike right after 1.6 was released, and I’ve been playing Battlefield since 1942 was in it’s brightest days. All of these games have something in common, they’ve all evolved into something entirely original and new…oh wait COD didn’t.

From your blogs calling yourself a COD fan might be a stretch.

OT: Yep its a new game. you only focused on half the game. The single player has a brand new storyline. The multiplayer is adding to what there fans like. Why mess up a formula that is working for the fans. MW2 went a bit too far and they realised that. To question it as a new game is silly.

Steadyhndz5380d ago

Don't care much for a new storyline, although I do love the Modern Warfare plot, I don't play it for that.

lastdual5380d ago (Edited 5380d ago )

But whether you care for it is irrelevant.

It has a new campaign, new weapons, new additions to Spec Ops, new multiplayer modes, etc.

Sure, the core gameplay is still going to look and feel like the COD we're all familiar with, but it doesn't change the fact that it is a new game by any objective measure.

raWfodog5380d ago

Another article by this guy? Damn, he must REALLY not like COD :)

Man, the Internet has made it too easy for fanboys to pose as 'journalists' while expressing their opinions as facts.

But, then again, thats just my opinion :)

Steadyhndz5380d ago

Everyone is calling me a fanboy...I can see why people think that, but most of the people that are calling me a Battlefield fanboy, are really COD fanboys...I don't care if your a fan boy of COD, but don't hate me on for liking Battlefield over COD. I don't hate on your for liking COD over Battlefield.

raWfodog5380d ago

@ steadyhndz

Are the author of the article? If so, then you do seem like a fanboy. To me, a fanboy isn't someone who just likes a particular game, movie, etc. A fanboy is someone who always seems to tie the 'like' in with a 'dislike' of the other thing, usually very passionately.

I'm a huge fan of God of War (Kratos is my mother-f'in dude!) but if I was putting down all other games that compared with God of War games then I would be a fanboy. Period. Especially if I wrote blogs on it. You don't always have to put other games down in order to tout the merits of your game. If you do, then you're a fanboy (its not a bad word).

PS - I'm also looking forward to BF3 over MW3 also, but I'm still getting both :)

gw4k5380d ago

I see that you haven't been invited to play the actual game. Meaning, you will get your hands on it when everyone else does.

So basically, you have a blog! Cheers!

"They are adding to multiplayer what the fans like". Give me a break. What they are doing is noobing it out even more. Killstreaks carry over even after a death, lame.

I've said it many times and will continue to say black ops was the zennith of cod in terms of sales. No other cod will sell more. It is now of the down swing, with more gamers that are fed up with sixty dollar map packs.

This is a quote I read from an interesting article.

"For a video game sequel to truly be considered as such, it needs to expand the franchise both in terms of content, narrative (like movie sequels do), but most importantly it has to be technically superior to its predecessor."

Personally, I'm not sure if MW2 jumps the line from being a expansion pack to a full packed game.

Now discuss.

raWfodog5380d ago

Well, first off, who was the source of that definition of a video game sequel? If it came from a truly unbiased source, then a pure debate could begin over the merits of it.

I would argue that the first two criteria are correct. Content and narrative needs to be expanded on. But the final one, being 'technically superior' doesn't ring true with me. If that's the case, then you could argue that Gears of War 2 or Mass Effect 2 weren't 'true' sequels. Those games didn't seem to be technically superior to its predecessors. If anyone disagrees, please explain how they were.

frelyler5380d ago

A quote's source has nothing to do with what you call a "pure debate." When one debates they are biased towards an idea one way or another, if they are neutral to the idea put forth then they are just that, a neutral. Debates were created to look at opinions/ideas/situations and have a logical discussion about them. Whether or not the original idea put forth seems biased is inconsequential, because that is why you would debate something to begin with. I guess I'm just telling you to stop trying to sound smart because when you dissect what you typed you sound anything but.

raWfodog5380d ago

@ frelyler

I'm sorry :( Too many videos games have warped my fragile little mind...

Hicken5380d ago

That's a very good quote, by the way, one I have to agree with.

Hufandpuf5380d ago

I don't like COD but I have to admit, IW is bringing some cool additions to the game and this may be the best COD since MW1 if they don't horribly mess it up like MW2.

spektical5380d ago

no not really. if anything this is an expansion pack.

By looking at the character models, animations, maps, etc. you can quickly see that it's the same thing with a different candy wrapper.

lets be honest the campaign is going to be a horrible mess much like every other COD (tik-tacked together). The multiplayer will be addictive.

MW3 will be the cause of the most controllers sent to the landfill.

chickens5380d ago

right okay, that like saying this.

all iphones are the same but with a new name and a new litle feature.
all fifa games are the same with new added 'bits'.

in the end people still buy the iphone and fifa games becasue they love how these already are. mw3 updated their multiplayer, created a singleplayer. its what mw2 should have been from the start.

Microsoft needs to listen or risk irreparable harm to Call of Duty

Windows Central: "The money may keep rolling in, but Microsoft is the custodian of one of the biggest selling video game series in history. If something doesn't change, I fear we'll reach a breaking point and irreparable damage will have been done."

Because ms is so good at managing studios, surely they will get it right

:P

franwex194d ago

In my view, they should probably merge MP with Warzone and essentially make it free to play like Halo Infinite. The campaign/zombies mode can be $30 yearly DLC. I know this would be insanity as most COD players essentially pay the full price of the game simply for the MP. However-with a shrinking player base they may have to consider it. Making it free would bring in a ton of players.

Profchaos193d ago

To late MW3 should have been a lesson but here we are two years later with a steaming pile a shite called blops7

Halo killer once arrived and technically call of duty killer also arrived, its name is Fortnite

dveio193d ago

Call of Duty was riding the revenue horse and charts for ~20 years. Whether undeserved or deserved.

But I endorse everyone to remind you that Microsoft could have decided differently when they took it over.

The money was certainly there, and they could have taken their time revamping the franchise:

Current-gen tech, manageable microtransactions, not imitating Fortnite and returning to core values of the franchise's origin.

They didn't.

Let's see next year. Hopefully without the then 13 years old PS4 and One hardware.
