used to love this company back in the day

superrey195355d ago

As a kid in the 90's, all I had to see was Rare's golden logo to know I was goin to play a quality game. Specifically donkey kong on snes, donkey kong 64, banjo kazooie, and goldeneye.

Marceles5355d ago

Hmm..this article must've been made in the SNES/N64 days.

WhiteLightning5355d ago

"Although Kinect has become Rare's focus, Duncan insisted that the studio's "mojo" is still about innovation. "Kinect is just a new set of tools to innovate with," Duncan said. "

No...just no

Rare is dead to me, they fell into making crappy Kinect games for Microsoft and look what's happening to them.

I mean some say they were already in trouble before Microsoft bought them but I still think they would of had a better chance at getting back on track. We might of had a Conker 2 by now

Kinect Sports is actually pretty good. I rather enjoyed it!

Fun family party game.

dark-hollow5355d ago

I never thought I see the studio who are used to make wonderful platformer games, making stupid "family" shovelware.

JellyJelly5355d ago

I wonder how many of those 12 disagreers have actually played the game.

I have and I agree it's a lot of fun.

dark-hollow5355d ago

Can't agree Anymore.

Since they left nintendo they went down the hill!!!
What is kinect sport compared to the original donkey kong, conker bad fur's day, banjo kazooie etc.

fossilfern5355d ago

This is all talk to keep MS happy. I dunno if it is MS making Rare push Kinect or Rare have gone mental and think the Kinect will produce anything good. Wish Nintendo never sold them, they belong with Nintendo!

Tony P5355d ago

MS's entire first-party has been reshuffled to refocus on what MS thinks is important to its bottom line: Kinect and XBL.

The creative direction that guided Rare through their best years is all gone. Two of the founders left Rare and the last was replaced with an MS guy who would better tow the company line.

That's pretty much all she wrote.

bozebo5355d ago

Rare is just a name now. They lost like 90% of the original staff. MS broke this amazing dev.

SuperBeast8115355d ago

Microsoft has a habbit of doing that

This clearly calls for a Charlie Sheen "WINNING" pic:

‘Thanks to everyone who played’: Banjo-Kazooie director confirms Rare exit after 36 years

Gregg Mayles writes: "Today was my last day at Rare Ltd. Thanks to everyone who played and enjoyed any of the games I helped create while I was there. Also thanks to all the people that worked on the games alongside me. It seemed fitting that I should say farewell with one final rhyme!"

QueenOfFrowns211d ago

These sorts of goodbyes are always the most heart-wrenching.

Reaper22_210d ago

Godspeed for the rest of your journey, sir. Loved BK. I think I'll play it this weekend to show my appreciation for this classic.

Not to offend anyone. But what was Rare doing with Everwild for so many years? Development began in 2014, with a reveal in 2019. From 2019 onwards nothing was about the game.

Notellin253d ago

"Notably, O’Connor’s boss of 13 years, former Rare studio head Craig Duncan, was appointed head of Xbox Game Studios last year."

Hiring internal talent from Rare worked out so well last time.

It's a shame it seems pretty Sea of Thieves centric

I was hoping for some cool Banjo / Conker merch or maybe a re-release of Rare Relay with some added games, possibly work something out with Nintendo so they can add Goldeneye to it with online support.
