3DS Circle Pad attachment is a disaster

MMGN: At its best, the second Circle Pad attachment for the 3DS will be an absolute disaster that is quickly forgotten. At its worst, it will overtake the Virtual Boy as the new benchmark in failed hardware.

jacen1005372d ago

laff what did u want people to become electronics engineers over night and buy a pack with the circle pad in it along with the necessary soldering equipment and cut a hole in the unit and actually redesign the unit? this is only an add on and i cant see any other way it could have been done without a full factory overhaul which the unit is going to get from what we are reading , the circle pad will be in the place pointed out i would think in the redisigned unit as there is a space there for it, this is only an addon remember to give an option of the second circle pad

I don't get why people are disagreeing with you. It's true, there's not much Nintendo can do for existing users. Sure, the thing definitely is dumb looking, it's not going to sell well, developers aren't going to utilize it to the fullest extent but it's all Nintendo can do for now (Even though they absolutely shouldn't have)

jacen1005372d ago

only fanboys disagree as u would well expect

reminds me of major GEEK with way too much time on his hands ?

Ddouble5372d ago

Kill it with fire!!!

That ain't exactly portable and won't that add as something else to suck up battery life?

How did something like this get the green light.

-Alpha5372d ago (Edited 5372d ago )

The PSV isn't portable either, neither are fitting into pockets and aren't going to be carried around with ease like the iPhone, especially if the 3DS does this. I don't think this will be the standard unless they do a revision, which I dont think they will. The DS was fine without a second analog stick, but it should have been implemented in the 3DS. Using the touch screen/gyro is a poor replacement and Nintendo knows it.

These are handhelds ultimately, and that's what is most important, not that it's portable. This is a fugly peripheral and it wont ever succeed.

I never considered the fact that this would drain battery life though, that's another huge problem

PSV destroys 3DS no matter how you try to spin it

Ddouble5372d ago

The PSV looks portable to me, it's thinner than the psp 3000 but wider. I can't say for sure if it will fit in my back pocket but i had no problems with my PSP so there is some hope.

This on the other hand will not fit in anyone's pocket. Most handhelds dont usually cross the line of being too big but something like this is extreme IMO and will be part of the reason along with what you said as to why it would fail.

http://cache.gawkerassets.c...

That's the fact. Why is it when this peripheral gets announced people are easily able to condemn 3DS' portability but get defensive when PSV clearly is no different?

PCE5372d ago (Edited 5372d ago )

@Blm Thug

How? Higher price point that the majority won't spend over the 3DS cheaper price point in this economy? Better graphics that really weren't proven a major selling point that pushes the system ahead of the competition? Spinoffs of God of War and Uncharted with significantly lower sales than Mario and Pokemon games?

If all the above were true, the PSP would've crushed the DS by now. Looks like the PSP did the worst in sales this generation while the DS outsold all three home consoles. There's no disagreeing with this comment without blindly denying cold hard facts. Looks like people don't learn.

@-Alpha

It's fanboy logic. You cannot expect actual logical thinking among these "true gamers"

ronin4life5372d ago

Does it matter if it will fit in your pockets when the thumb sticks slide and wear out against the sides?
It amazes me that the lack of a second slide pad and the solution to this problem outweighs the horrible design flaw of leaving a giant screen and extended thumb sticks completely unprotected without the purchase of a special pouch.
The 3DS will be fine. It's only real problem is that everyone in the game media seems to want to kill it.

Ddouble5372d ago (Edited 5372d ago )

@ Alpha
The pic you posted shows the Vita is not even that much wider than the PSP and people were fine with the PSP. Yes when we all heard the screen was 5 inches people did think about it's portability but once people got a hold of it they all showed its not what we once feared.

The Vita is no way near the size of this thing. Look at how thick it is.It's twice as thick once you slide the 3DS in there which is why it's not a proper comparison with the vita.
BTW this isn't a Vita vs 3DS discussion i'm just pointing out that the peripheral is just a bad idea and one of it's major flaws is how big it is.

@ronin4life
I won't call it a flaw when it hasn't been proven to be an issue. Once the Vita gets released we'll see if putting it in your pocket is bad for the analog sticks. As for leaving the screen exposed. My psp and phone are fine with there screens exposed so i don't think it's a problem.

-Alpha5372d ago (Edited 5372d ago )

@Ddouble

I'm not saying that the PSV is any worse, just that before this peripheral was announced nobody talked about portability because it favoured the 3DS. I just brought up the fact that neither of these devices are exactly portable and that portability isn't a huge factor for core handheld gamers. Portability becomes an issue for the casuals who would rather carry a slim iPhone than chug a handheld device in public.

If you question the PSV's portability before this peripheral was announced, you'd be met with criticism, but I see people so easily criticizing the 3DS over an optional peripheral as if it is stuck onto every 3DS. They really both aren't the most portable devices on the market, but currently the 3DS is much more portable than the PSV going by that image

How did it get a green light? Simple, Nintendo is likely preparing a new 3DS model (call it the Slim, Lite or whatever you like) with a second analog stick on it. Tis is, I hope, nothing more than a small add-on for the current 3DS users so they won't be left in the dust when a new model comes out and newer games require the use of the second analog stick.

While this particular add-on isn't exactly great, I'm pretty sure owners of the 3DS would rather have the option of buying this rather than having to buy a new 3DS for future games.

PCE5372d ago (Edited 5372d ago )

I hope this peripheral will fail. It looks appalling at best and incredibly uncomfortable to use at worst. Seriously, Nintendo should just stick with the single circle pad, it is sure a lot better than the DS which has no analog controls.

StbI9905372d ago

If the price caused a massive backlash to Nintendo, sooo eager to see what a new hardware with new buttons WILL do by the same name of 3DS... bring it.

RevXM5372d ago

Its portable, but completely messed up. with the add on I mean.

@ -Alpha
Both 3ds and PSV are portables.
Doesnt Portable mean something you can bring along with you?
And as far as I know both PSV and 3ds fits in decently sized pockets. Perhaps not in tiny girl pockets, but there is no need for custom pants or anything. lol. (Ipad) xD

Best 2D, Mario World, best 3D, Mario 64. Can't say there's been a bad one, although Mario World 2 wasn't a true sequel. The Mario Land games were good (not the first one) and also Wario Land. I thought after Mario 64, Mario 3D World was excellent.
