Does anyone know exactly how this is supposed to attach to the 3DS? I'm looking at mine right now and don't really see any way this could possibly connect with the system.

First thought: Aaaagh! Nintendo! What the hell are you smoking? That looks ugly! How the hell can I play that on the train? The 3DS is doomed!

Second thought: Hang on, the scan makes it look like it is part of a bundle with Monster Hunter Tri G. It may even be designed by Capcom.

Third thought: So if its included with Monster Hunter Tri, it won't be required for every game - no need for a 3DS redesign. Most games for the 3DS won't need this. The few games that require a second stick will include it in the package.

Fourth thought: So, in reality, its not that much different to the Guitar Grip that came with Guitar Hero On Tour for the DS.

Nintendo should be embarrassed that this is the best they can do after dominating the handheld market for 20 years. Just compare that photo to a Vita or any decent phone that plays games. Nintendo seriously need to wise up if they want me to keep supporting them.

All this will do is make even more potential buyers postpone buying until the next version comes out designed with 2 analog sticks in mind. It makes me sad to say it, but the 3DS is looking really sketchy right now and if you remember the Gameboy Advance was only out for 3 years before the DS came out. I wonder if the 3DS continues to have problems if Nintendo might release a new Gameboy by 2014.

Well aside from the fact that it looks like shit... Im glad we are getting the 2nd pad so early on so its better supported, its not like i wouldnt have switched to the lite version anyway. I guess it also means the revised version is coming sooner than we thought.

Nintendo used to be kings of hardware and their revisions were always to reduce size and their peripherals alwayd had some killer app, but, ever since the Wii, it's been add-ons to introduce functionality that should have been there day 1 and, ultimately, due to being an add-on, isn't used because developers are not going to take the risk of additional development resources on something on a fraction of the userbase already have, see Motion+ and Wii Fit.

I don't understand why Nintendo were so pig headed to not see this limitation with the PSP because Sony and gamers certainly did.

I tried telling people things aren't the same this time around, a lot has changed and Sony has been taking notes.

The vita is a hell of an investment on Sony's part i am glad they actually took the time to conduct long research hours and team work between engineers and developers to make this device a dream handheld.

As for the 3DS, the only thing that i am sure will appeal many buyers is that price difference, so was the case with the original DS and psp.

Damn this only makes want a vita even more.

This thing looks really odd. I just don"t get why Nintendo didn"t just have two from the start. I dunno if I"ll buy it for mine.

OK, here is my opinion on this.

First of all, it looks like it is an attachment for the MH game (much in the same vein as Guitar Hero on the DS), so it's not a necessary attachment, but it may have uses in other games. If the price is low (under £15), or it is bundled free with the MH game, it's not that big a deal.

Being a 3DS owner, one of the problems I have found when playing for long periods of time is that the 3DS is actually quite uncomfortable. With it being the same size (pretty much) as the DSi, but having the analog pad in there, it means that it's more of a squeeze for my hands to get to grips with it, and the corners of the unit would actually start to hurt the hands.

This attachment actually looks like it will solve that problem for me, as it adds a rounded cushion to the edges.

I don't understand people really complaining about the size of it, because if you look at the size of the Vita, it will probably make them both around the same size (the Vita is both wider and deeper than the 3DS).

Obviously, if this attachment proves to be required for future games, then Nintendo will no doubt release the 3DS XL (but not at the moment), with a bigger screen and wider body. That is an inevitability anyway, so it shouldn't come as a shock to anyone.

Perhaps it should have been included from the start, but the DS (and 3DS) didn't really need a second analog stick because the touch screen could be used to move the camera. Perhaps Nintendo may even give them out free to current 3DS owners - would everybody still complain then?

But as a 3DS owner, I'm happy with the system, I'm happy with the games so far, and I'm happy with the games on the horizon. I'll still be getting the Vita (because I try to buy all the consoles when I can), and also because I like the fact that there are big differences in the tech, and the overall experience.

It's not 2002 anymore, it would have added 5 cents to the dev costs to have 2 analogs.

Nintendo is totally screwing early adoptors, I was planning on getting a Wii U on launch but knowing Nintendo they'll probably realize that an 8 gig HD is way too small and bump it up within a year.

Wow...Well, Im supposed to pick up new red 3ds this friday (Its already paid in full). Now im having second thoughts...should I just wait for the inevitable 3ds release that has two sticks built in? Or should I just put that money towards some of the kick ass games that are coming out for the home consoles(ps3, 360)? Or i could put that money towards the Vita which i was planning on getting anyway...decisions decisions....

A peripheral? Why the hell would you add the second thumbstick as a peripheral, whose existance on the console was a necessity in the first place?

Let me get this straight: If you decide that you're going with one thumbstick you stick to your decision, if not you do NOT sell it as a seperate addition, you just put it on the machine before its release. A peripheral makes you look like a greedy and non-consumer friendly company which I begin to think is true.

You know what I'm so not gonna buy a 3DS now, I was considering it but this sh*t is too much. I'm done with these greedy milking tactics. In order to get the second thumbstick I have to pay for the peripheral and turn my already heavy handheld console into a gigantic mess with a cancerous tumor attached to it, right?

Why does it hurt Sony fans so badly that I'm having fun with my 3DS? Why are you wishing so badly for the 3DS to fail? Why does it matter so much to you? I don't like the Vita. It doesn't fit me. But I don't want it to fail. Competition is healthy. It forces companies to improve. If you got your wish, and Nintendo failed, Sony would have no impetus to improve.

I'm just curious if some of you realize how absurd it is to desire the failure of a competing company, from a business perspective. You look incredibly immature when your argument is essentially: "I don't like this, therefore you're crazy for liking it."

I'm so glad that i didn't board the 3DS hype train/have any interest like so many people, i mean fools did. Paying a stupid amount of money for an outdated, underpowered, overpriced piece of crap. Which tbh is what the 3DS is. Also I mean a large percentage of these fools who bought a 3DS are mean't too be adults yet they seemingly have no sense. It seems their all swept up easily by hype and marketing like mindless children... stupid sheep.

C'mon lets be honest The 3DS has been a epic failure, not just in terms of hardware, but also in terms of software. Where are the games, 10+ year old N64 ports is not good enough in 2011. And Can Nintendo recover in time for the Wii U, tbh i don't think they will . This is punishment for their arrogance and imo it will continue (deservedly so) for a while yet.

Nintendo need to learn their lesson and not repeat their mistakes again. But i fear its too late for them now. They've lost the trust of many of their blind faithful/idiot fanboys. And it will be very hard if not impossible to regain it. We will have to wait and see what happens, Although i don't think the future looks good for Nintendo.

I cant wait for my 3DS to pass up the one year mark for its first party warranty, I added 3 years warranty for mines so after that one year is up, i could totally just take this piece of crap back and by then the WiiU or the PS4 will be out and I can trade this for store credit and get either one of the one's above.

That's a sweet way to bump the price of the system -- trick the consumer into buying the touchscreen and CPU/GPU, then have them add gaming controls later! That *is* what smartphones are, after all. Maybe Ninty thinks this is a clever business model... that most people don't even want controls, past the touchscreen.

Wow there's a lot of Nintendo hate on N4G. It's optional. Not a requirement. Most 3DS games are still gonna only use one stick and the ones that don't will still have an option to only use one stick.

OMG that looks horrible. At first i thought it was going to be a nub that goes over the touch screen but it looks like its a cradle with a nub. Nintendo should have added a second circle pad to the 3DS in the first place.

Due to this add-on i am pretty sure that the next model will have a second circle pad. Seriously adding a second pad could not have added much to the cost so i dont see why it didnt have it in the first place.

CALM DOWN! This means Ninty is probably going to announce a 3DS lite with dual pads. This is probably for the saps like me who couldn't wait so they can play new games. Today marks my first week of having my 3DS. I imagined a circle pad clip that snapped on to the 3DS spot between the power and letter buttons. Nintendo will fully redeem themselves if they are willing to send out 5 million free 3DS Lites or even let us send in ours to get a huge discount. I mean previous owners pay like 20 bucks. I think that this should be optional in all games and when you don't have it you can use the gyro controls which are pretty legit.
