I was joking.

Good to see Sony friends are reliably humorless.

SilentNegotiator5368d ago (Edited 5368d ago )

Poor awkward placement, added girth to a handheld, segmentation of the 3DS userbase, another directionless move by Nintendo on behalf of the 3DS, ANOTHER loss for the very first 3DS buyers.....

Maybe your troll self didn't realize that what your comment said had some truth to it (logic usually eludes the troll), but.....SURPRISE! it's not a great peripheral.

digitaledge5367d ago (Edited 5367d ago )

@SilentNegotiator

This attachment puts the 3DS around the same width and depth as the Vita, so that added girth isn't that much of an issue (unless you had an issue with the size of the Vita, of course).

I find the current 3DS awkward to hold after long periods, because the corners dig into my hands after some time. This attachment would actually solve that problem for me.

I don't see the need for a second analog stick on the 3DS, because you can use the touch screen to rotate the camera if necessary, so I do fail to see why Nintendo have done this.

However, as it looks like an attachment for the MH game it's pictured with (much like the GH grip for the DS), it may not be an absolute requirement.

**EDIT - It seems that it IS optional:

"Monster Hunter series supervisor Ryozo Tsujimoto was interviewed about the cradle, and said it was the "secret weapon" which gives players the same feeling of control that they had when playing the Wii version. However, it appears the add-on will be optional and the game will still be playable without it."

END EDIT**

For every future 3DS game to take advantage of it, Nintendo should really give them out free to all current 3DS owners (perhaps like the Wii Remote jackets) - and if that was the case, would you still have a problem with it being a loss for 3DS owners?

EDIT - If people are going to disagree, please say why and get a bit of a discussion going on this.

EDIT 2 - Added quote from MH series supervisor from original Edge article ( http://www.next-gen.biz/new...

digitaledge5367d ago

For some reason, N4G keeps the closing bracket in my link above, so here it is again:

http://www.next-gen.biz/new...

So, in summary, OPTIONAL peripheral for Monster Hunter game (and possibly others), to give the same kind of control as the Wii version as opposed to the PSP version (also the water elements that were removed from the PSP version have been added back in, presumably as a result of the extra control)

darthv725367d ago

I can actually see nintendo revising the unit to put a 2nd analog beneath the buttons on the right side.

The layout would be offset like the 360 controller. I dont see an issue with the added size as even the original psp had its holding discomforts. I have one of those controller type of holders for my old psp1000 and it made holding and playing the games that much easier.

This optional device could actually be better for holding and playing other 3ds games even if you dont use the analog stick in it.

Not a bad idea but certainly not the worst either.

clearly everyone only read the first admittedly inflammatory part of my comment. there's two paragraphs there y'know.

sorry, but this crap just annoys me to no end.

SilentNegotiator5367d ago (Edited 5367d ago )

@digital

The fact that they would take AWAY from the compactness that it had is a problem. If Vita is going to start off huge and shrink as it goes along with new SKUs, then big deal.

And "optional"? Riiiiiight. Just like One could optionally play Monster Hunter Tri with the Wiimote. Your options are play with the crappy controls or buy a classic controller. "optional", yes. If I wanted to play Monster Hunter 3DS, I wouldn't play with the awful controls that the PSP had, I would want to play with the dualstick controls, hands down. As would anyone who's not sadistic and has the "option"

.
@snipes

You can't be serious. You think people are seriously going to read your comment past "dick riders"? Get real, troll. Your imagined Sony phallus invaders think that Nintendo's latest move is ridiculous and so does everyone else. They should have had a second "circle pad" from the beginning.

I second that. This looks terrible. As someone referenced to me in an earlier post, I hope this doesn't turn out like a certain sega system...and I'm not talking about the dreamcast.

-Alpha5368d ago (Edited 5368d ago )

It looks laughably cheap

Adding such a peripheral just continues the mass confusion and shows how directionless the 3DS currently is.

I still have complete faith in the Nintendo exclusives and I do like the 3DS for the simpler handheld experience, so I disagree that it will "fail" and die out, but there was no excuse for this not to be on the 3DS from the start. Adding it in like this is isn't going to open it up to devs like it should.

If a majority don't have this, it will be worthless to devs. So either they add this in to the revision and piss a lot of early adopters off or they try to introduce it as a barely supported, annoying peripheral

colonel1795368d ago

This was definitely added in response to the PS Vita. Nintendo knows that Vita is coming in full force with all the features it has. If it gains the same 3rd party support that the DS had, the 3DS will not have a chance.

Nintendo will definitely release another version of the 3DS with both analog pads built-in, the same way they did with Wii motion plus, screwing early adopters in the process.

Anyway, as much as a fan that I am of Nintendo franchises, I will sell my 3DS by next year so I can buy a PS Vita. I don't want to buy a horrible peripheral to play games that require it, and I definitely don't want to buy another 3DS.

Solidus187-SCMilk5368d ago

Im wondering if the price drop might actually have something to do with releasing a new 3ds version with this thing built in soon.

I think if they are releasing such an ugly add-on then they should just release a new 3ds with it built in.

It will piss off current owners, but the sooner they do it the fewer people they will piss of by selling them the old one.

who knows where this will go, maybe its just for the new monster hunter game? Or maybe it will get used more and more by devs and nintendo will add it to the 3ds soon.

it looks pretty bad how it is now

At least you proved me wrong. I thought this rumor was complete BS when I first heard it. Man....

SilentNegotiator5368d ago

"It will piss off current owners, but the sooner they do it the fewer people they will piss of by selling them the old one"

Let's see Nintendo gift ancient VGs out of this one.

So let's see....that puts the original buyers of the 3DS at probably $270+ "minus" a bunch of old games they've probably already played.

OH boy can't wait for the 32x attachment and then maybe a DVD/Blu Ray attachment!

Nintendo has flooded the market with TOO many models causing poor sales.

firefoxprime5368d ago

You...do know the psp has had the exact "same" amount of models as the DS?

DS, DSLite, DSi, DSiXL
psp1000, psp2000, psp3000, pspGo

4 models EACH

pacosanchez885368d ago (Edited 5368d ago )

@firefoxprime yes but all of the psp's have essentially the same function, they all will play any psp game. (with the exception of the go)

on the other hand, some ds's play gba games, others dont. some ds games required the gba slot, others dont. some require the dsi camera. others done. some have access to downloadable games, others dont. each model had a different wall charger and a different size screen. And because they all look very differnt people are aware of the different models (though they may not know specs) and it can get pretty confusing which does what unless your an active gamer. (which many ds owners are not) A lot of people just assume the 3ds is just another ds model that does 3d but nothing else. its pretty often at work that people will try to buy a 3ds game for there regular ds because it says "will work in 2d and 3d" on the front of 3ds games.

nintendo put way too much emphasis on marketing the 3d and not enough on any of the other features

AdvanceWarsSgt5367d ago (Edited 5367d ago )

Hmm, I didn't know you could play UMDs on the PSPGo, nor did I know you could plug your PSP into your TV with the original PSP. But hey, it's Sony, no matter what they do, it's GOLDEN right?

And the DS only had two chargers; the original DS Phat and the DS/DSi charger.

Jesus christ you Sony fanboys will stop at nothing to prove a point, no matter how factually incorrect it is.

hatchimatchi5367d ago

Yea, let's all watch the moronic nintendo fanboys scramble together to salvage this one.

"Duuuur the PSP has blah blah blah."

Shut up you dummies.

Face it, nintendo f***ed up BIG TIME with this. I'd be surprised if any of the people here praising this monstrosity have even bought a 3DS. I live in SIngapore, i paid $350 for mine, only to have the price get lowered a few months later and then a second analog nub is announced.

WTF is going on? Nintendo is such a f***ing joke right now and they are clearly clueless as to what to do with the 3DS.

Let's go out and find all the idiot comments nintendo fanboys have posted throughout the years of, "Duuuur, dual analog isn't needed, it's awkward, stylus is more accurate, blah blah blah"

Eat crow you fools, Nintendo is the laughing stock of the industry right now.

NiKK_4195367d ago (Edited 5367d ago )

The PSPs were just a small upgrade to replace the one before it for the same price (except the Go). The DSs were all different models that changed the price and sold alongside each other with different features.

n4f5367d ago

@pachosanchez
yeah but all ds game are playable on all ds. dsi and di xl get exclusive content and some mini game.
whereas psp loses content and not all game are available on pspgo.
beside there is gonna a be a fifth model for psp in europe only for 99e so why get sensitive over the psp

hatchimatchi5367d ago (Edited 5367d ago )

oops, double post.

But yea, that thing is a BEAST.

Watch nintendo fanboys say, "it's not big, it's the same size as the vita"

blah blah blah. take the fanboy goggles off.

ChickeyCantor5367d ago

@hatchi

If people are fine with it, then who are you to say otherwise( regarding their opinion )?

I wonder: is this from capcom? Like how ubi made their own cam and tablet for wii?

AWBrawler5368d ago

the hell is that gay crap? Come on Nintendo. we hav a touch screen, do we really need that? and if we do, can't you build it into a new less hideous add on or 3DS redesign

zerocrossing5367d ago

I think I'll wait until they build the damn thing into the console, Nintendos total lack of foresight also ends up shooting them in the foot.

PCE5367d ago

Nintendo is making way too many mistakes this upcoming 8th generation. First, the system was incredibility overpriced, now this s***storm. The thing looks appalling like the SEGA CD attachment, like really? This is embarrassing for Nintendo.

Gray-Fox-Type05367d ago

awful if 3DS doesnt start pumping high quality games soon, i am going to be selling this..( i got it after the price drop ) waiting for mario 3ds and that. but 3ds future is looking bleak.

MultiConsoleGamer5368d ago

The 3DS is a complete disaster. The 3DS price drop trap blew up in Iwata's face and now everyone who bought the 3DS early has been screwed.

Neo Nugget5368d ago

Tell that to my free NES and GBA games.

If this is what getting screwed feels like, then I love it.

Neo Nugget5368d ago

Just to be clear, I don't like this peripheral at all. The above comment was referring to being screwed by the price cut.

colonel1795368d ago

You didn't get skewed by the price cut, but you either buy this add-on to play games (which much likely will require it) or have to buy a new 3Ds that Nintendo will release with it built-in).

Eamon5367d ago

To be fair, anyone can simply download those free NES and GBA games online.

This really does feel like I'm getting screwed here. Ever since the 3DS was first revealed I've always said that Nintendo HAS TO HAVE a second slide-pad. One is not enough. The PSP already learnt its lesson from that and that's why VITA has two sticks.

If this is true, I am really disappointed Nintendo. They should at least give us the opportunity to trade in our old 3DS for free or a small amount of money for the new version.

sikbeta5367d ago

@Neo

You'll love it even more when you get 20 free old games for a handheld that doesn't have the same functionality for all the upcoming games that will be released for the redisgn 3DS model XP

TruthbeTold5367d ago

I downloaded and played Super Mario Bros. beat it (with warp zones) in little over 10 minutes. I would never have rebought that game on the VC with as many times as I've played it, and due to the fact that I can go and fire it up on my NES any time.

Those games are not only extremely old, but most of them I've played to death, and just don't want to play except for every once in a while for a few minutes when 'the spirit hits me'. The GBA games need to be excellent choices. Otherwise this 'free old game' thing is just fail and a half for me personally. It's a gesture, but a pretty empty one. Especially since the screwing of early adopters continues in full effect.

Only if they don't announce a new model with the d-pad.

Oh who am I kidding...

swinesucker5368d ago

Yeah, WOW, all those NES and GBA games. YAY! I have those on my emulator since 15 years ago. Cool stuff those PC's! And they even look better too with better filters than N will ever have lol.

-Alpha5368d ago

It's not a "complete" disaster. But it's pretty clear that they weren't so smart with it

sloth33955368d ago

they need to offer it free i think or package it with the 3ds that way games dont get seperated into with 1 stick or 2 because then some people wont be able to play

Best 2D, Mario World, best 3D, Mario 64. Can't say there's been a bad one, although Mario World 2 wasn't a true sequel. The Mario Land games were good (not the first one) and also Wario Land. I thought after Mario 64, Mario 3D World was excellent.
