ObnoxiousGamer: Games upon release have been known to be glitchy and buggy, but with the announcement of a patch to fix Dead Island’s initial bugs prior to its release, is this going to be a new trend, and if so for the better?

I miss the old days when game were released and they didnt need patches.

blumatt5363d ago (Edited 5363d ago )

I agree that the old days of games coming out without patches was great, BUT if something was wrong with it then, you were just stuck with a broken game. At least now, for better or worse, games can be fixed and improved upon via patches.

@malol

I think that can be attributed to the fact that as games become more and more complex, so will the number of glitches and bugs increase. It's a causation effect.

malol5363d ago

if anything shows that gaming is going down hill then its First Day Patches

i mean WTF back in the days games used to have much less glitches
its like we are going backwards not forwards

Klaykid1235363d ago

malol, it was also much simpler to make 2D, 8 bit games instead of complex open world high end graphic games with a huge amount of coding ALONG with not knowing if the game will work with EVERY combination of parts inside a PC.

beans5363d ago

Every game I played back in the day had a ton of glitches. Now it's much better if you ask me having a patch option. Reviews need to be adjusted if they actually make the game better.

itani5363d ago

They did need patches, but they just couldn't release them.

@Klaykid123

I can hardly believe my eyes.......Understanding and common sense on N4G?!

Bravo sir

Rampaged Death5363d ago

I don't. If the game was broke back then it was broke full stop !

Son_Lee5363d ago

Hey, at least it shows the developers care. Patches are great. What isn't great is when a developer doesn't care that you spent $60 on a product and never improve it.

gemc6665363d ago

the only patch on my generation was to blow the cartridge...i miss those days

bumnut5362d ago

I remember having to clean the heads on the tape drive in my Spectrum :)

WhiteLightning5363d ago

But...if the game was fully developed then it wouldn't need patches to improve it.

Sometimes I think it's laziness...."Yeah we'll let gamers find the bugs and THEN we'll patch it"

I'm too scared to start over again. I've already lost 6 hours of gameplay...don't want to lose anymore.

Gears of War 2 Remake was in development “10 years ago” but was scrapped by Xbox

Ayi Sanchez: "Old work. I did this 10 years ago now as part of a material test for a remaster of Gears of War 2 that never happened."

RaidenBlack429d ago

lolz,
hope we're still getting Gears 2 & 3 for PC, as per rumors

Cacabunga428d ago

Xbox always taking the right decisions

XiNatsuDragnel429d ago

Wow... just wow Microsoft sigh at it again 😑

Lightning77428d ago

Weird, in mean they had no studios to make anything really new so there's a part of me thats kinda glad they scrapped it. If they released this back then it would of gotten ridiculed for remakes and remastering stuff. Now they have new and interesting games so the collection is harmless.

CrimsonWing69428d ago

Geez, Xbox, something like that I would’ve bought Day 1. Great business decisions over there.

lucasnooker428d ago

10 years ago it wasn’t such a big deal. The games were only a few years old by that point

CrimsonWing69428d ago

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition came out in 2015 (essentially 10 years ago), having a follow-up to that on the then next-gen console would’ve absolutely been welcomed, in my book.

LoveSpuds428d ago

I can only assume the the Gears of War Remaster flopped so they decided to scrap the other remakes?

Seems short sighted to me as I really enjoyed the 1st remaster. Regardless, I'll snap up some remakes to play on my PS5.

Dead Island 2 devs believe a Dead Island remake would be a “mistake”

We might be in the age of remasters, but it doesn't look like the Dead Island 2 devs believe remaking the original game is the right move for the series.

but remakes require far less effort for these companies and they can still charge $70 for them!

Feel like everyone makes fun of Skyrim re-releasing like 18 times yet applaud these remasters elsewhere. Would much prefer NEW games

CrimsonWing691154d ago

Making sequels really is the way to go. Otherwise we'll be stuck playing only the first entry, forever!!!

Gears of War is my favorite video game franchise, and the Locust is my all-time favorite faction.

My rank list:
1. Gears of War 2
2. Gears of War 3
3. Gears of War 1
4. Gears of War 4
5. Gears of War 5
6. Gears of War Judgment (No Locust in multiplayer was a disgrace)

ChasterMies1421d ago

Agree 100% with this ranking. The campaign in Gears of War 2 is among the most fun campaigns ever made. It’s been downhill from there.

Zombieburger6381421d ago

I’d say gears 2 and 3 are pretty even. I absolutely loved both of them.

darthv721422d ago

2 is still my favorite but 5 is also up there (for me). Then I'd say 1, 3, 4 and Judgement. Tactics isnt the same type of game, so it seems odd to rank it among TPS when its a strategy game. So I make that one all its own. Pretty fun game too.

Jericho13371422d ago

The first is and has always been the best one imo - the story, the levels, the set pieces, the soundtrack - as close to perfect as a campaign can get.

I’d say the series had been on a continual downhill slide until 5.

Om4ever1421d ago

Naaaan ... 2 is the best by far

Judgement

I love the series as a whole, but 4 was pretty by the numbers, and Judgement was just ok.

LoveSpuds1421d ago

I played them all since picking up a Series X about 7 months ago. Personally, I don't think time has been kind to the earlier games and they feel very slow and repetitive to play. Whilst the newer games may be prettier, they stick with the original gameplay mechanics too much in my view so as a whole series of titles, I think they are pretty average games.

Not to say they weren't fun and I have a lot of nostalgia for 1 and 2, I just think there are far better action games out there.
