Let's be honest, Kinect Star Wars could work perfectly and still only be mediocre. Losing it from the Christmas billing is no great loss to my mind.

Virus2015371d ago

I'm just here to see the comments!

EVILDEAD3605371d ago

Kinect Star Wars was never the 360 'flagship' title for the holidays (even for
Kinect).

Releasing the game knowing the quality wasn't up to snuff would have only have hurt Kinect. Pushbacks for quality have happened for many titles including Twisted Metal for the PS3.

If I were them I'd push the game back deep into 2012, allowing the developers to add way more content and allow another E3 to give the game some momentum.

As for the holidays, the 360 easily has it's best chance at securing one of it's best.

Gears of War 3 (Sep)
Forza 4 w/ Kinect support (Oct)
Halo Anniversary (Nov)

Kinects top two selling games both arrive sequels: Dance Central 2 and Kinect Sports 2.

Not to mention the kid game licenses from Sesame Street and Disney.

The Star Wars Kinect 360 won't be an issue as MW3 has it's own custom 360 and if history repeats itself it'll push hardware.

Not to mention this is the absolute best multi-platform holiday relea schedule in HISTORY.

Skyrim, Batman, Battlefield 3 vs MW3, (the sleeper) Dark Souls, etc.

Again, this is pretty much Micrsoft's best chance at pushing 360s as there isn't another chance that Kinect essentially is without competition for what it does.

Next holiday? Meet Wii-U..holiday after that meet 720 and PS4..

kneon5371d ago

I agree it's no great loss and if the game isn't ready then don't ship it. But I fail to see the authors logic in how pushing out a game release means Xbox will rule. It's not like suddenly some great game will appear to take it's place.

CoReI5K5372d ago

Well is there any game that can compete this Holiday with:

Halo: Combat Evolved
Gears of War 3
Forza 4

Please stand up :)

Fishy Fingers5372d ago

Which will no doubt be better on 360 (cosole wise) as it's lead platform.

Yi-Long5372d ago

- Batman Arkham City.
- Battlefield 3.

For Forza 4, I'm just going to wait until they're done with the DLC-milking again and release an Ultimate Edition.

Gears of War I only played the first game a bit, but couldn't really get into it, sadly. Will probably give Gears 2 a go before I even consider buying Gears 3.

...and I might have picked up Halo Combat Evolved, if it had been released for 1200 pts on XBLA Marketplace.

rabidpancakeburglar5371d ago (Edited 5371d ago )

Fishy Fingers
You could have said the same about New Vegas before it released but it was more buggy on the 360

edit
Don't know why I'm getting disagrees straight away, I'm not wrong

Biglet5371d ago

Actually, Skyrim will be best on a mid-high end PC.

Fishy Fingers5371d ago

^Probably why I said, "console wise".

Ri0tSquad5371d ago

But a game that sophisticated is just inevitable to have a huge amount of bugs/glitches (possibly game-breaking) once it gets in the hands of customers. I definitely wouldn't buy it day 1; maybe a couple months later when the major bugs/glitches are all patched up.

Chaostar5372d ago (Edited 5371d ago )

Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception, Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Resistance 3, Batman: Arkham City, Metal Gear HD collection and Ico/Shadow of the Colossus will definitely be be at least on par with those great titles IMO.

There's also contenders in Rage, Battlefield 3, Dark Souls, Dead Island and Assassins Creed: Revelations.

Looking at games through the lens of a single platform ruins the experience for yourself only.

kevnb5371d ago

The big pc titles already came out, but diablo 3 looks like a 2011 game.

ATi_Elite5371d ago

every month a HUGE PC title comes out. Besides every PC gamer already knows that this Christmas Guild wars 2 is gonna kill everything which is why so many huge PC titles and possibly including Diablo 3 have been pushed back to 2012.

No one wants to release under the huge shadow that Guild Wars 2 is gonna cast.

otherZinc5371d ago

Uncharted 3 will be outsold by at least 2million units by:
Gears of War 3
And
Halo CE:Anniversary

We will visit the truth January 31st.

PSVita5371d ago

and UC3 will win more awards than any xbox game period. The series is already at 300+.

DARK WITNESS5370d ago (Edited 5370d ago )

I could turn around and say what's the point in wining an award if nobody buys the game to appreciate why it got the award ? but I wont...

Bleach5371d ago

Are there any other choices? Or is that all the 360 has?..

5371d ago
DARK WITNESS5370d ago

not only is that all the 360 has... that is all the 360 has had for the last 3 years...

not including exclusive DLC. A sorry state of affairs if you ask me.

Ri0tSquad5371d ago

Halo, Gears, and Forza - Wow, haven't heard that list before, lol.

Looking forward to playing Gears, but I'll take Batman: AC, Uncharted 3, and Dark Souls over those titles any day.

KMCROC5371d ago

Uncharted,Infamous, Resistance,God of War- wow haven't heard that list before.

I would rather play Batman: AC,Dark Souls, Skyrim, Rage over any of those titles.

DeadlyFire5371d ago

umm...

Halo has Battlefield 3, Resistance 3, and Call of duty:MW3.

Gears has Uncharted 3, Assassin's Creed, Arkham City, Warhammer: Space Marine.

Froza has Need for Speed: The Run, and GT 5.

Thats all I can find in the genres coming up by end of the year.

Clarence5371d ago

Gears 3 is the only thing worth purchasing.
BF3
Uncharted 3
Skyrim
Batman AC

As far as Halo&Forza 4 they both remain to be seen. I'm sure they won't impress.

Arnagrim5371d ago

If the competition is to appeal to 12 year old prepubescents, sure; those games get tons of sales from the holidays when the Little Timmys of the world need their Mommies to buy the game for them.
With an exception to Forza which is a great series.
Battlefield, Skyrim, and a few others deserve much more attention this holiday.

Kinect had a flagship title?

Dailynch5372d ago (Edited 5372d ago )

Well, if it didn't it certainly needs one!

Stealth2k5372d ago

Nintendo has outsold its competitors in hardware and software the last 5 holidays. Why should this be different?

snoopgg5371d ago

The difference is that nintendo games really aren't that good. I don't care how much they sell at christmas, if they suck they suck.

gamingdroid5371d ago

Correction, they aren't good to you, but Nintendo sells a lot of software.

Tito085371d ago

That's their 1st party games, 3rd party games don't sell on Nintendo devices, except a very few!!!!!!!!!!

kevnb5372d ago

Those games are mainstream... hardcore gaming isn't found on console much these days since hardcore console games won't make money. i understand many gamers game alot, but so what? are there hardcore tv watchers and music listeners?

morganfell5371d ago (Edited 5371d ago )

Call of Duty console says hi. I am not a fan of the series - for me a few of the SP characters are the only redeeming quality - but acting as if hardcore console games do not make money is beyond absurd.

Though we are deep into this hardware generation, consoles retain their sales lead. This year and next will be no different. They may loosen their grip a little but they are not close to giving it up.

You comment is made out of blindness. You are the PC version of the console fanboy that PC purists despise.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio21d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing20d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9220d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit20d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing20d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9220d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

Eonjay22d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn223d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn222d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown23d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay22d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay22d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac22d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger23d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300023d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde23d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde22d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".

A good start would be to release games to go with the console. My Xbox Series X has gathered dust virtually from launch. My advice would be to ditch a next console and release games on PC, PlayStation and Switch. Another idea would be a hybrid console based on Xbox Series X tech and go the same route as Nintendo. Another idea would be to pull out of gaming altogether. Plenty of options there.

Reaper22_22d ago

Why would they pull out? They have the momentum. Sony has been getting nothing but bad news lately.
