PlayStation 3 Must Plays

In a world where cross platform games rule all and sundry, there are very few games that stand out for each specific console. In a bygone age the Playstation was defined by its ability to churn out games that were only available on its eponymous console but now, however, the world has become a much scarier place. Which console to buy? What games to play? It all used to be so simple – and cheaper – you picked the console that fitted your needs and the games naturally followed. Job done.

I personaly prefer Shift 2. Gt5 was way too boring for me to care.

Hicken5370d ago

Shift 2 was the worst racing game I'd played in years. Maybe ever. With as much experience as I have with all types of racing games, I've never had as much trouble with the handling of a game as I did in Shift 2. Even the first Skyline they put you in (I refuse to call it the GT-R); it's a car I've driven in half a dozen games without issue, and only in Shift 2 did it feel like the car did what it wanted and I was just along for the ride.

Forza? Sure, you can prefer that. NFS:Shift? Okay, why not? But never put that piece of poop Shift 2 in the same category as a game as good as GT.

If you'd read the story properly you'd have read that this article is about PS3 only games - Shift 2 is multi platform, therefore it makes no sense to compare.

I don't think GT5 is a "must". Racing games are a niche. Not everyone enjoys driving cars no matter how fast. I can see if they said it's worth a rental to try and spark your interest.

Hicken5370d ago

All games are a niche. Gaming itself is a niche market. It's just that some are bigger than others, or are more pick-up-and-play than others.

I assume this list is going to run the gamut of different genres of games. If that turns out to be true, then GT5 is most definitely a "must" for the racing genre. Even as enjoyable as, say, MotorStorm is, GT5 is the racing game to beat. (Despite many believing that title belongs to Forza.)

I agree with Hicken, no single game will enthrall every gamer. Steve is giving us a cross section of the best PS3 titles across all genre's and in my opinion and probably many others, GT5 is the best of the driving genre, without doubt.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle19d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Five Games I'd Love To See On the Neo Geo AES+

Blues Journey is the game I'd like to see.

Popsicle22d ago

Pre-ordered mine a few days ago. Love this concept and hope there are more games announced. I can’t justify paying the prices for games that collectors are asking for. It’s the primary reason I own almost every console except the Neo Geo.

Agent7522d ago

I've pre ordered one here in the UK, no games though, as I'll move it on for a higher price. The white model looks awesome, but as expected, the price is too high. We'll probably see more of those all in one cartridges from China containing every AES game. In the UK, AES+ game at £70 ($95) is better than eye watering prices for the originals, but these games are so old and I can honestly say SNK didn't release many classics. The Metal Slug series is the only series I rate, there were just too many Street Fighter clones and not enough scrolling fighting games. Overall, the Neo Geo was poor for all genres apart from one on one fighters. Videos on YouTube asking for games from that console generation to be ported to the AES+, but who'd want to pay £70 for Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter 2? There's a lot of SNK collections out there, the best being Metal Slug Anthology on the PlayStation 2. The Street Fighter Anniversary Collection on the Switch contains 12 games for around £30, instead of £840 if released on the AES+. For collectors, the AES+ is the best news since sliced bread. Are there enough SNK fans out there? Nowhere near. Those £70 cartridges will soon start creeping up in price and it'll be a re-run of the original console.

I always wanted one in the 90's but couldn't afford it. Now i can but i think if i get one it will be collecting dust fast. It's a nostalgia thing i guess.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
