Will gamers continue to support Capcom?

Capcom, Capcom, where do we even begin? This generation Capcom has been nothing but appalling to many gamers through out the world. Not only ripping them off with DLC but also releasing 7 versions of the same game in so little time. The million dollar question is, how far is a gamer willing to go and continue supporting Capcom?

This is true, why do gamers continue to support them knowing they're getting ripped off with each newer game edition?

knifefight5352d ago

Their recent quarter saw record profits or something.
Seems like they're doing pretty well, capitalizing on just HOW MUCH crap people will take. Seriously, groups of consumers don't really think as often as individuals give them credit for.

"Capcom today released its sale results for the first fiscal quarter in 2011 that ended June 30."

http://games.ign.com/articl...

so i'm going to disagree with you there (no hard feeling ok :) ), This one is more recent. June 2011, compared to March 2011. If anybody has July, post it.

dark-hollow5352d ago

If you are really dying for capcom games then buy them used.
That's way you enjoy those games and still capcom don't get a cent from you.

kornbeaner5352d ago

But those used games have to come from somewhere, new games have to be bought in order for them to become used games. So the cycle has to continue either way. Just don't buy them period, eventually the price and/or production cycle will be reduced to the point where we are not seeing a "New" edition of said game every 10 months or so. It would be every 2-3 years.

dark-hollow5352d ago

But you're not like going to prevent everyone from buying those games!

TekoIie5352d ago

@Kornbeaner

Very true but if i go into CEX (UK) and buy a game and then 4 weeks later sell it back to them and someone else buys it then thats 2 people that capcom have missed out from selling one game (the process will go on near forever).

Miiikeyyy5352d ago

They're a shadow of their former selves.

Aloren5352d ago

Really ? I'd say they're exactly like their former selves.

Aloren5351d ago

Guess you guys don't remember how many versions of megaman or street fighter were released in the early 90s. They've actually got better. Only 3 different SF4 is a big improvement.

rjdofu5352d ago

They also f*ck up 2 of their most popular franchises too: RE & DMC.

I'm glad to be the proud owner of exactly ZERO capcom games this past year. Last game I played was Lost Planet 2.

I'll probably end up buying Street Fighter X Tekken, only because of Tekken, and DmC, because of Ninja Theory.

itani5352d ago

I've actually only bought Resident Evil 5 from them but after the direction the Resi series is going, I think I will have to unfortunately abandon it. I have no choice since they don't want to take it back to how the first couple of games in the series were. It's unfortunate that I have to do this but then again it isn't my fault. Also the new games do not deserve the title 'Resident Evil'. They might as well make them new IP's.

ilikegam3s5352d ago

last game ive played was demos lolz

itani5352d ago

That's really good, the more we support them, the more they will screw us over. It's evident with what they've been releasing recently.

DlocDaBudSmoka5352d ago

lat crapcom game i bought was the first street fighter 4.

lizard812885351d ago

Just wait for the Super Version. Thats what I'm doing, IF i buy it at all. I still don't like how it is tag team, but you just need to KO one. Plus it looks like it plays like SF4, which i hated.

Alos885352d ago

I won't. They've made nothing but horrible decisions of late, cancelling megaman, overpricing the Resi HD remakes and actively encouraging Ninja Theory to create Dante May Cry.

Mr_Luke5352d ago (Edited 5352d ago )

I stopped buying Capcom games after the first rumors ("there will be a Super SFIV", "SSF Arcade", "Super here and there", "Ultimate whatever")about all of those upgrades TO PAY. If i bought an euro 50 game (Super Strret fighter IV for example), then i have to spend euro 15 or so to upgrade it. If i wait i pay those euro 50 for the game + upgrade. But there will be another update, so.... i'm waiting for the SFIV saga to be completely upgraded and on a single DVD/BD, in that moment i'll think about the purchase.
Same thing for the other games, like Marvel VS Capcom 3.... i knew they were going to release a new "addon"....

5352d ago
DlocDaBudSmoka5352d ago

by that time, crapcom will move on to super duper deluxe redux street fighter 5 mega ultimate collection. and the rehash cycle will start all over.

Pikajew5352d ago

The only Capcom games I have is Okmai and RE4 on Wii.

Take note, Sony, you're falling behind by a lot.

-Foxtrot29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

I was just going to say this, their biggest and top rated game here is TLOU2 for PC….it’s embarrassing.

Even Ubisoft and EA are ahead

Kind of surprised Nintendo is pretty low aswell, their biggest game is also a rerelease with the Switch 2 version of TotK.

StoneColdCrazy28d ago

That’s what happens when you start shutting down your own studios and forget what actually made you matter in the industry in the first place. Sony used to set the standard — now it feels like they’ve lost that identity. And if they decide to walk away from the PC market too, that’s going to be another huge mistake — that platform is only growing, and ignoring it now would just put them even further behind.

1Victor29d ago

@christopher:” Take note, Sony, you're falling behind by a lot.”
.
Why single out Sony? Microsoft didn’t do any better than the year before 5th same as Sony 9th and they have acquired activision and other mayor titles that have boosted their score massively from a 9th and Sony a 4th the year before the acquisitions.
Sony does need to do better without a doubt and I do hope they do take note but not the note of buying publishers is the way to succeed.

Christopher29d ago

1. Microsoft didn't get worse.
2. Sony got way worse.
3. Because Sony needs the criticism the most considering their publishing output this generation has been propped up by last gen ports and third-party developers for the most part.

thesoftware73029d ago

1Victor,

I don't wanna speak for Christopher, but like most of us we recognize that Sony's output this Gen has been way below their own standards.

Also Sony did buy a fair amount of Devs, I know you will say they were not publishers, and don't compare in size, but they had their fair share of Aquisitions, including the very well established Bungie.

The overall point is with their stellar first party track record of the past, they should not be going down, they are singled out because they are some of the best videogame devs/publisher on the planet...no matter what reasons we attribute to the situation, they are moving in the wrong direction... period.

KyRo28d ago

Its widely accept that Sony this generation has been underwhelming. We've had more peripheral releases, controller variants, PS5 accessories than games it feels like. The exclusives were also PS4 and what little output they have put exclusively on PS5 is nowhere near as memorable as what came in every generation before that.

This isn't a Sony hate post but anyone who's older and has been around for a long time gaming will agree that PS5 is by far Sony's worst generation. As much as Xbox is in the gutter, I pray the do bounce back in the hope we get Sony to wake up again.

darthv7228d ago (Edited 28d ago )

If you want to critique MS... you are doing so towards their management. The games output and their hardware have been much better than PS this gen. Sadly... people still hold a grudge against XB because of MS. Thankfully i am not that petty... I've been enjoying their games output in the drought of PS. And add in some NS1/2 games as well to balance things out. Things will change for me once Wolverine hits, and I start using my 5 more. That one I'm looking forward to. And the Marvel fighter... I'm not a GTA player so that has no bearing on my view of things.

Big part of that has been the live service push resulting in cancellation or flop after flop but when they put out the games their fans want we get amazing stuff like astro bot

Leadership really screwed the pooch trend chasing

Well I apologize I was wrong about not doing worse but my statement of Microsoft getting a boost still stand 🤷🏿

1Victor28d ago

Well OBSCURED unlike you I’m honorable enough to recognize when I’m wrong and apologize.
.
@ The software you know there’s no comparison between what Microsoft acquired and what Sony acquired that’s why you tried to get ahead of the conversation, yes we all know Sony can do better than what they have done this gen but they inhaled the poison GAS they thought would bring money for years but we make sure they got the message and quite a few games got cancelled you know as well a hit like that take years to be corrected and by now they hopefully will have taken steps away from the GAS and slowed their approach to them.

You will say anything when you are in denial that your hardware is dead and nobody wants your platform. Good luck with Helix because nobody will buy it.

But... but... the garbage-mongers always tell us that Square Enix is in trouble! 😂

Christopher29d ago

Square doesn't help that it fear mongers itself with ridiculous 'goals' that they can't reach and then they proclaim failure if they don't reach it. They're quite freaking profitable and people act like they're dying.

SimulationDaily29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Keep in mind that these "proclamations" are usually third-hand bad translations from somedude who was at the investor conference, posted on Twitter, and picked up by press and youtubers like they were gold, and then when the official translation comes out, they're much softer statements, but at that point, the damage is done.

gold_drake29d ago

to be very fair

being number one on these things does not indicate how "well" their games do selling wise.

Capcom Insists It Won't Use AI-Generated Assets in Its Games, Will Harness Tech during Development

Capcom has clarified its current stance on generative AI in its videogames. The major Japanese publisher and developer behind popular series like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter has revealed that while it doesn't use gen-AI assets in their games, it is exploring ways to use generative AI to streamline the game development process.

Chocoburger29d ago

Using Artificial Intelligence (more like Realistic Stupidity) art assets in your games is a great way to get people to boycott your product. We don't need that ugly, unsophisticated, generic, fake art in our games, good on CAPCOM for not using that garbage.
