I haven't had any problems at all. I haven't even seen the XMB slowdown some people have talked about. The only time I've had a problem with a firmware update was like 2 months ago the update wouldn't finish downloading but I just grabbed it off the website and problem solved.

is when i have a pic i took as wallpaper it moves a BIT slower than when it not, not much though.

besides that it was a great update it.

in generally made things a little quicker.

it made my xmb lag the info board that is so i just turned it off now its back to normal

My PS3 seems fine. Although I cant turn it off on standby without it turning itself back on. I think that has to do with remote play, It's really annoying and unconventional

I got rid of the info ticker too. Everytime I would choose something it would freeze, but after it's disabled my PS3 works fine.

i dont use the ticker so i have no trouble. its a nice idea but there just isnt enough news about the playstation to warrant a ticker...they should have used that time and money to develope on something else like communication enhancments...but we will get those soon too..

No idea why people are getting problems, mine has been flawless from day one.

im on my ps3 everyday for multiple hours and i have the info board on..and its safe to say that everything works better than b4...the browser is definitely improved as for the entire look on the ps3...very nice update even without in game xmb...which will most likely come before christmas with the divx enabled update.

oh and as for the "slowed" down XMB with the ticker...people are retarded..thats the ticker loading for a total of 2 seconds...the xmb is slightly laggy for those 2 seconds of loading...people need to stop all of this "THE FW UPDATE IS KILLING MY PS3" because my friends and i are not having a single problem with it

I've noticed a few problems. I was watching the Spiderman Trilogy in a different room over the weekend, and I've been swtching from TV to TV, and there're option changes, (My gaming TV has a surround sound system, the other TV is 1080p compatible,) and it's been very slow in accessing the settings. It fixes itself after a while, though.

I have my info bar up cause it looks kinda cool, ive had hardly any problem with, but not to the point where it freezes my system, if people want to solve this simple problem just take it down.

I wonder if the Cell's amount of general purpose processing is the reason the ps3 is having trouble. I imagine that the SPU's aren't used for the OS.

this hapened to me a couple of times what you need to do is wait for that info bar thingy to finish load then tutn it off (its not all that good anyways)

the main reason i thinkit freezes is because your internet speed is too slow it takes a wile for that bar to load it worked fine for me when my speed was 100 mbps (fastest i can get here in perth AUS) then i went over my bandwith and got slowed down to 56kbps and it took too long to load that bar and it started freezing so i waited then turned it off!

There are dozens of people with 1-3 posts on the ps3 boards stating they have now broken PS3's after the update.---as if that means anything.

Yet, no Youtube videos. Or any other proof.

The PS3 boards have a history of RRODbox owners logging on to make up complaints and 40% failure rates...

I have no problem with mine and internet browser never work better. I think it's the influence of bad PS3 PRESS Again, now that PS3 is walking is stairway to heaven.

I also want DIVX SUPPORT. Never had a console like this, after Megadrive, Saturn, PS1, Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, DS, Wii and PSP, the PS3 is the BEST console around, the BEST, SIMPLY THE BEST.

when it was turned on, it took like 3 minutes to start a ps3 game. Slow to do anything else. Turning off the ticker, I haven't seen any other issues. I have the 60gb ps3.

Other than remotely connecting with the PSP is slower, but I reckon if I turn off the ticker thing that will sort it. Perhaps the themes may affect the speed too. Will need to experiment.

But now that you mention it, PES 2008 DID lock up like 3 times on me before I disabledt hat thing (I think it was before). It could just be the game though, PES 2008 is probably the buggiest game ever :p

But yeah, for the ppl having problems: try turning the info board thing off (select the icon on the XMB, press triangle and select 'Do not show', or ssomething like that).

Maybe thats what is causing the issue ;)

after the update , I had to do a hard reset. Yesterday I noticed, when I press the PS3 button on the Controller and I go ahead to press "turn off console" the X button does not work..WTF

The only time i have ever had to hard reset was in warhawk but that hasnt happened for a few weeks

i have had a few minor issues but nothing major, all the problems are software related so new firware update will solve them eventually, at least the hardware is quality...no ring of death here.

well i thought i'd chime in, I don't use the message board, i turn it off, so that might be something right there, but I did notice the web browser is like 10 times faster now, its actually managable, it was pretty bad before, but now runs a lot better, so uh, maybe the fanboys need to try again to spread some FUD

60GB unit bought in May of this year. No problems at all since the update with the info bar running...

no problems so far.

Mine froze up a few times after the update. Also, the XMB would freeze up for like 45 seconds sometimes when loading games, etc, but then it would come back to life. I disabled that info bar last night and it doesn't seem to be having problems anymore...here's hoping. It's a 60 gig btw.
Remember when firmware 1.92 started causing issues with network connections? They really need to be testing these updates more thoroughly before releasing them.

but that update knocked out my web browser.and when i reset the system,it killed all my favorite websites i had saved.not that they mattered.but that still sucked.

the other additions were cool.instead of that ticker,it would have been cool in having gif supported wallpaper.or support for video in the background as wallpaper.but i turned that ticker off.

at least so far the updates are not like the 360's where it bricks your system sometimes.better get me some wood to knock on.

i have updated my ps3 with firmware 2.00 and i'm enjoying every bit of it. had no problems at all.

No probs here or with the girlfriends. If you don't want to be forcefed the firmware then just don't sign out of the PSN. I didn't download 2.0 til the 2nd day it was out because my machine is normally left on all the time.

2 60 gigs here, info board turned off. Turned that thing off instantly...stupid feature IMO.

i have a gb ps3 ever time i up dated before i had no problems but when i get this 2.00 this sh**t mess with my connetion to the Playstation network have had to turn off my ps3 on and off to get it to work the thing is that i never had connetion problems before this 2.00 but great update but still no in-game xmb it is a need because i will be playing my games and my friends send me messages i have come back out to the xmb to just reply you guys need to get that call of duty the servers suck they need to fix that to ps3 all the way baby the one and only consual killer

I updated to 2.00 and the only problem I have is that sometimes the games dip to just under 30FPS rather than staying steady. For example, CoD4 and R&C normally don't have lag, but after the update it did have a little.

I've noticed a little slow down in selecting things overall and a little more lag than usual in selecting stuff in Motorstorm...but it's made up because most of the things in the XMB load quicker for me.

...or does the story sound harsh and 'OTT'. I'm not syaing there are no issues (though I've genuninley had none at all). But the PS3 and 360 work the same for updates, you can use them offline no problem, plays games, watch films, listen to music, etc, etc. But you have to update to use online features. You're not forced into updating as soon as the machine boots up, it does not stop you from using it other tahn online, which makes sense as you need to be up to date before you start using something online and adding to it.

anyway, I have the info bar enabled and has been fine, no problems at all, hope it stays that way for me.

For the record I have owned both a 360 and PS3.

My one works fine, people having problems need to have their heads checked.. some bots might be lurking in them.

has picked up a few glitches since the update. especially whilst in the main menu or whilst in the weapons shop switching between weapons. Tekken online also slowed on me for the first time but that may be due to the two point oh or the upgrade to tekken online which came out on thursday also. other than that im jig

I've noticed occasional slowdowns/choppiness in the XMB and whatnot, but I've noticed this since I first got my PS3 and installed whatever firmware was available at the time. I've noticed it in games too (not referring to framerate, rather random choppiness in menus and stuff. No idea why it happens, but it's not a serious issue for me. Of course I'd rather not have these issues at all.

havnt had ne freezes or problems of any kind, i agree the info board is annoying especially since mine is in japanese. would be better if the board was linked to what ur psn account was instead of the country ur ps3 is from.
on that note id like my ps3 to stop thinking its in japan and connecting me to jap servers in resistance

My PS3 keeps freezing from time to time. Not only that but if I'm downloading a Demo the whole thing goes to waste (Error while installing) and so I have to restart the 1+Gig download again! Other than that I'm loving the new features. I hope they add Sub-folders in the future thats something I've waiting for since the PSP came out!

I haven't installed the update yet. Looks like I won't be, either.

The good thing for me is that none of this happened during gameplay. It seems that its affecting some and not others, but thankfully it isn't a system bricking problem. I guess that the ticker is the main issue, so if we just turn it off (as it isn't very useful right now but looked sort of cool)then that should do away with the issues until Sony fixes things. Not too much to worry about here.

Now that Jim Ryan is gone just need to remove Herman Hulst from his position! And maybe give Shuhei the position he deserved.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
