Insomniac dev wants to develop Resistance 4

Insomniac creative director Marcus Smith recently revealed that another studio could handle development of Resistance 4, but not everyone at the now-multiplatform studio is necessarily ready to say goodbye to the series yet.

Talking to VideoGamer.com this morning about the prospect of another studio handling Resistance 4, Insomniac writer Jon Paquette said "I think I'd like us developing it".

Paquette added that "there are a lot of great developers out there. There are a lot of great shooter developers, and I'm sure there are a lot of people who would love to get their hands on Resistance because it's such a fun universe to create."

"I think Resistance is a fun place to play, with all the weapons, all the Chimera - it's a really great universe for games, because there are so many options."

I don't know, really I'd just like Resistance to end on a good final chapter. As it is, it's been a bit of a confused IP and I think I'd just like it to end after 3 and see something else come along as the new Sci-Fi shooter. As it is, most of the appeal was the alternate WWII setting and that part of the timeline is pretty much over.

It has too much promise and material to work with to just "end". I'd like to see the scale get bigger and the vehicles return.

Frankly, I'd like to see an in-house Ps3 developer take over. Insomniac isn't exactly making the most technically impressive ps3 games.

nycredude5385d ago

Are you kidding me with your comment? Insomniac are a top quality developers and has been for a long time. Their games are top quality and technically impressive to anyone who knows what it takes to make a quality game. They usually turn their games around in two years. Sony gave them three for Resistance 3. It will be awesome. And please don't use the resolution excuse. Many games this gen on consoles aren't crazy high resolution. There are more to games than just resolution.

@ nycredude

I agree, too many great games that are not 1080p or 720p so resolution has nothing to do with it. I also agree that Insomniac are top of the line developers. However I don't agree about the resistance franchise being a top quality IP.

I have plenty of issues with the last 2 games but I won't get into them and make it a hate fest in here, however when comparing the quality of Resistance to other big name games like the KZ's and Uncharted's, the Resistance IP just doesn't cut it. There are plenty of 3rd party IP's that have come out or that are currently being worked on and will be coming out soon that put the Resistance IP to shame such as Rage, Crysis, Battlefield and yes even the COD games. I am not even going to bring up the exclusives on the other consoles as well that are pushing out some AAA class titles before end of the year.

Resistance was a great idea on paper but never truley made the transition to the greatness that it could have become. Good franchsie sure, but it is not up there with the top teir IP's.

Just make sure it runs at 320x240@15Hz next time.

First one was amazing. I think it was what one of the comments above me said about how it had this WWII setting. I actually just cancelled my pre order for R3. I tried the beta and although it was different, it was more similar to R2 then R1

carreirabr5385d ago

R3 beta is way worst than R2 MP.

And what the hell is that hd trashing all the time as you play the level annoying problem?

SamPao5385d ago

I love all resistance games, and will buy Resistance 3 on the first day, already played the beta, and it plays wonderful!!

So it would be great If they continue with the franchise!

Insomniac Games Has To Figure Out How to Break the 'Normal' Gameplay Loop in Marvel's Wolverine

For a mutant who can't die, how will Insomniac Games adjust the healing mechanic in Marvel's Wolverine?

Knocked out is still an option. So are being captured or restrained. Then there's potential for fatigue being a factor or just putting limits on how many times you can come back from healing quickly, making it also something you upgrade throughout the game.

Really not a hard thing to gamify, honestly. Just look at the last wolverine game.

StarcrossedBits230d ago

Yeah, this is very silly. Wolverine's not invincible and he can actually die anyway. This isn't the Superman problem. The 360/PS3 game handled it great.

Deadpool is another example. That guy literally can't die because Death won't take him. But they still figured out a way to make a game around him.

jambola230d ago

Probably just have a health bar, only a tiny minority will probably be bothered by "oh but adanced healing" nonsense
Injustice was successful, people didn't cry about superman being beaten by humans

Juancho51230d ago

Ive seen enough to know that whatever they do will focus heavily on insane combos and dismemberments and all kinds of cool shit we wish we'd seen years ago as wolverine fans.

This is in great hands, all open world games get stale, I'm sure this game is going to be GOTY contender because of the talent behind it, but I hope its doesn't fall into any traps that make the world feel empty or underutilized.

LFG tho!! EXCITED.

Of all the things to worry about, this feels like the lowest ebb. I’d perhaps be more concerned about how they can find enough variety in the combat mechanics to stop a 10-12 hour game from becoming a bit samey, even if they get that main combat gameplay loop to be incredibly satisfying.

Obviously Wolverines claws will remain the main combat method, but thinking about how God of War benefited from (and differentiated itself from predecessor’s) by increased verticality in combat and also ranged attack mechanics, I’d be interested to see what Insomniac can come up with.

Jean Gray will be playable for a portion of the game. That’s how they’re going to spice it up.
