Capcom's "Totally New" Approach with Resident Evil 6

From Toasty Controller...

"Excluding Sheva, if you really want to count that, the Resident Evil series hasn't added a new playable main protagonist since 2002 when they introduced Billy Coen and Rebecca Chambers in Resident Evil 0. Should a new character be added? Could we possibly see Chambers or Coen? We haven't seen Claire Redfield in a playable role in awhile, and certainly not this generation of consoles. "

I actually think this might be good.
They would have to be complete retards to f*ck it up again after all the feedback they've got over resident evil 4 and 5.

dark-hollow5402d ago

Over 4?? 4 is my favorite RE title ever!

VileAndVicious5402d ago

Personally I thought RE3 nemesis was the shit

Az1mov5402d ago

I pretty much liked all of them, except the 5th. to me it was a complete nonsense... hated it. and what the heck was that crhis' character design!

gillri5402d ago (Edited 5402d ago )

indeed whats wrong with 4!?

5 is the problem, 4 actually had just as much horror as many of the previous RE games, it just had alot more action which to many people diluted the horror. If you think about it though there was a shedload of horror in it. Virtually the entire game takes place at night or in bleak foggy european countryside. the re-gens? gruesome bosses? evil monks? texas chainsaw style nutcases?

RE4, RE2 and REmake are the best IMO. althought the first hols a special place in my heart

RE5 was insanely average, I dont want coop, I dont want enemies with guns. Oh yeah and way more nighttime scenes!!

lociefer5402d ago

by far res3 was the best one and the franchise turned to action instead of horror starting with res4

WhiteLightning5402d ago

I thought 4 was amazing, you couldn't beat the reply value the game offered and the unlockables Capcom would make you pay for now as DLC.

I liked Ada's story letting you play as her when she went off screen after her and Leon talked.

They took all the good stuff from RE4...no co-op, inventory, the merchent etc and changed them to make them worse but kept the bad stuff for RE5. As I've said before the concept art from RE5 shows that theyh got it right the first time before they had the idea of co-op

BlindGuardian5402d ago

-lone wolf
-bring back the merchant, no buying stuff from menues
-been able to move while aiming
-scarce ammo
-increase the horror with jump moments like the dog breaking the windows on RE1
-light RPG elements
-towns with NPCs that you can talk to outside cutscenes
-long campaign, at least as long as RE4 minimum
-sexy good times
-no canned "jump out the window" animations
-been able to use herbs on the spot if itinerary full
-no looking for keys to doors that you can walk around them

malol5402d ago

@ VileAndVicious
THE HELL you smoking ???
like really ??
what ????

RE3 was the best in the whole series
4 was OK
5 was shit

VileAndVicious5402d ago

@malol

Thats what i said read my comment again lol

zeeshan5402d ago

RE1 and RE2 were the best when it comes to horror. After that, the story got kinda all over the place. RE4 was kind of like a fresh breath in the RE franchise but yes, it wasn't that scary. RE5 was... well... PATHETIC!!!

DEAD SPACE is where the Horror's at now! Leave it to Capcom to completely f**k up a great franchise! Only one RE title this gen which was pretty lousy and generic!

DeadlyFire5402d ago

4 is the best I have played. Can't wait for the HD edition coming to PS3/X360.

As for this totally new approach that is kinda the same. Get this. Full on First Person. Gasp!! Never saw that one coming right?

badz1495402d ago

knowing Capcom, they will change RE into gears or Uncharted gameplay-wise!

Pozzle5402d ago

"and what the heck was that crhis' character design!"

I can look past Chris's character design, but I will NEVER forgive Capcom for destroying Wesker's character by turning him into a boring stereotypical I-WANT-TO-TAKE-OVER-THE-WORLD- MWAHAHAHA villain.

He was so much better as a shady mysterious always-working-behind-the-scen es puppet-master.

(And don't even get me started on his stupid backstory with the "Wesker Children" and all that crap. I liked it better when Wesker was just a horribly corrupt scientist with a regular past - it's much creepier to think he was a regular kid at some point in his life.)

tee_bag2425402d ago

Personally I loved them all. The first is and always be my favorite. Sadly they got less eerie as they moved on.

I played through coop with a buddy in number 5 and must admit we did have alot of fun - I liked the character design of the bosses. But I totally understand how sh#t it would be playing it single player..eww.

Megaton5401d ago (Edited 5401d ago )

Everyone disagrees, but I hated 4 as well. It marked the turn in the series. They dumped scares for a wonky TPS control scheme and an action focus. Creating tension from mobs of non-zombies and bad controls. I felt the same way about RE5. I only enjoyed that one when I played co-op with my friend, but I think that speaks more to the power of co-op. Co-op can make damn near any bad game a load of fun with the right friends.

VileAndVicious5402d ago

I agree. I think if done right would be pretty epic

Eamon5402d ago

Resident Evil 4 was very well received.

It was Resident Evil 5 that was criticised a lot.

Gray-Fox-Type05402d ago

the feedback what they got from RE4 was revolutionary landmark in gaming.

Etseix5402d ago

the feedback they got from RE4 was the same reason they went 100% like that in RE5, wich everyone thought it was going to be a good thing, but hey! guess we were all wrong.

PS: BRING BACK WESKER!

chadachada1235401d ago

Etseix, no one wanted full RE5-type crap.

We wanted RE4 but SLOWER-paced. The camera control was awesome, the quicktime events were just enough without being ridiculous. It was tense without being all "boo!" It had the feel of a Resident Evil game instead of just an action-shooter-"horror.&q uot;

Philoctetes5402d ago

RE4 was stellar. It was 5 that was crap.

ape0075402d ago

agreed

RE4 is of the best games of all time

RE5, pretty good but nothing compared to 4

4 design and atmosphere is second to none

fatstarr5402d ago (Edited 5402d ago )

meh they should do what they did with 4, reinvent the series from the ground up test it on nintendos system
port
kill
milk
???
profit

but lets see where this goes if anything. cause re4 is one of the bests, it was the best in gen 6 and people loved it.

and it was scary to me seeing as i was young back then.

scofios5402d ago

I don't think capcom is capable of making a good resident evil without Mikami and the rest of platinium games.
Resident evil 5 , resident evil Operation Raccoon City, proves my point.

Kos-Mos5402d ago

Redident Evil 4 is considered one of the best games ever made, so you should keep quiet.

TVippy5402d ago (Edited 5402d ago )

Hate these stupid ignorant speculative articles more than anything. And damn, this is a good example. The author doesn't even know about the existance of RE 2002.

Capcom's "Totally New" Approach with Resident Evil 6.....is FPS.. :)

dark-hollow5402d ago (Edited 5402d ago )

Come to think of it, capcom never made an fps game. I think so.

VileAndVicious5402d ago

Thats because every Japanese FPS ever made has been notoriously bad

zerocrossing5402d ago (Edited 5402d ago )

What about Resident Evil Dead Aim, was that not Capcom?

sikbeta5402d ago

@above

Yep and that game was so damn good...

O-T

Capcom's "Totally New" Approach with Resident Evil 6 = NT making the game and forget about zombies, now they have vampires XP

Seriously Capcom, go back to what RE used to be, an awesome Survival Horror franchise...

dark-hollow5402d ago (Edited 5402d ago )

@sikbeta

Speaking about vampires, i want to see a proper reboot for the castlevania franchise.
You know, dracula and shit, and no Satan crap!

Skate-AK5402d ago

On top of Dead Aim they also made Resident Evil: Survivor and Resident Evil Survivor 2 Code: Veronica that were both FPS.

Darkfocus5402d ago

killer7 was pretty good imo

funkycoldmedina5402d ago (Edited 5402d ago )

I think Resident Evil Survivor is somewhat a FPS. Not certain, but it definite looks it.

NarooN5402d ago

Those games were all light-gun shooters, not really FPS.

And RE Survivor was the worst RE game in the history of life itself. Such a piece of shit game. Dead Aim was pretty decent.

I'll believe it when I see it ^^

OpenGL5402d ago (Edited 5402d ago )

After seeing that last Resident Evil game (not referring to 5, but the unreleased one) that basically looked like Gears of War, Capcom will really have to do something amazing to get me interested in the franchise again.

Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil Remake are two of my favorite games of all time but Capcom now seems content with making Gears of War clones instead of real survivor horror games.

BubbleSniper5402d ago

very wise person OpenGL you always bring the technical insight to the table and I find out the two games you just mentioned are some of my favs too have another bubble.

gillri5402d ago

well Gears of war in a way was a RE4 clone, as RE4 popularised the over the shoulder camera view first

zerocrossing5402d ago

Exactly, just like DMC popularised the 3rd person action genre that God of War uses... People have such short memories.

VileAndVicious5402d ago

@zerocrossing

People always gettt mad at me when I tell them that God of war and the. new ninja gaiden series are DMC clones. Right down to the orb collecting and ability uupgrades.

OpenGL5402d ago

I wasn't referring to Resident Evil 4, but the new game they recently showed that has yet to release.

I also felt like Resident Evil 5 had too many enemies, and the fact that you could be basically revived by your co-op partner really took away from the survivor horror aspect of the game.

Ingram5402d ago

Bubs for the smart gnome.

Kos-Mos5402d ago

Comparing Resident Evil 4 with gears is the perfect symbol of trolling. The games are in totally different leagues, but what would you know?

I loved RE0,1,2,3 and CodeVeronica.
RE4 wasn't bad but it started to change things up a bit and i don't like change in my series ;)
But RE5, what was that?! No way that action game was a Resident Evil game.

Take note, Sony, you're falling behind by a lot.

-Foxtrot75d ago (Edited 75d ago )

I was just going to say this, their biggest and top rated game here is TLOU2 for PC….it’s embarrassing.

Even Ubisoft and EA are ahead

Kind of surprised Nintendo is pretty low aswell, their biggest game is also a rerelease with the Switch 2 version of TotK.

StoneColdCrazy74d ago

That’s what happens when you start shutting down your own studios and forget what actually made you matter in the industry in the first place. Sony used to set the standard — now it feels like they’ve lost that identity. And if they decide to walk away from the PC market too, that’s going to be another huge mistake — that platform is only growing, and ignoring it now would just put them even further behind.

1Victor74d ago

@christopher:” Take note, Sony, you're falling behind by a lot.”
.
Why single out Sony? Microsoft didn’t do any better than the year before 5th same as Sony 9th and they have acquired activision and other mayor titles that have boosted their score massively from a 9th and Sony a 4th the year before the acquisitions.
Sony does need to do better without a doubt and I do hope they do take note but not the note of buying publishers is the way to succeed.

Christopher74d ago

1. Microsoft didn't get worse.
2. Sony got way worse.
3. Because Sony needs the criticism the most considering their publishing output this generation has been propped up by last gen ports and third-party developers for the most part.

74d ago
thesoftware73074d ago

1Victor,

I don't wanna speak for Christopher, but like most of us we recognize that Sony's output this Gen has been way below their own standards.

Also Sony did buy a fair amount of Devs, I know you will say they were not publishers, and don't compare in size, but they had their fair share of Aquisitions, including the very well established Bungie.

The overall point is with their stellar first party track record of the past, they should not be going down, they are singled out because they are some of the best videogame devs/publisher on the planet...no matter what reasons we attribute to the situation, they are moving in the wrong direction... period.

74d ago
KyRo74d ago

Its widely accept that Sony this generation has been underwhelming. We've had more peripheral releases, controller variants, PS5 accessories than games it feels like. The exclusives were also PS4 and what little output they have put exclusively on PS5 is nowhere near as memorable as what came in every generation before that.

This isn't a Sony hate post but anyone who's older and has been around for a long time gaming will agree that PS5 is by far Sony's worst generation. As much as Xbox is in the gutter, I pray the do bounce back in the hope we get Sony to wake up again.

darthv7273d ago (Edited 73d ago )

If you want to critique MS... you are doing so towards their management. The games output and their hardware have been much better than PS this gen. Sadly... people still hold a grudge against XB because of MS. Thankfully i am not that petty... I've been enjoying their games output in the drought of PS. And add in some NS1/2 games as well to balance things out. Things will change for me once Wolverine hits, and I start using my 5 more. That one I'm looking forward to. And the Marvel fighter... I'm not a GTA player so that has no bearing on my view of things.

Big part of that has been the live service push resulting in cancellation or flop after flop but when they put out the games their fans want we get amazing stuff like astro bot

Leadership really screwed the pooch trend chasing

Well I apologize I was wrong about not doing worse but my statement of Microsoft getting a boost still stand 🤷🏿

74d ago
1Victor74d ago

Well OBSCURED unlike you I’m honorable enough to recognize when I’m wrong and apologize.
.
@ The software you know there’s no comparison between what Microsoft acquired and what Sony acquired that’s why you tried to get ahead of the conversation, yes we all know Sony can do better than what they have done this gen but they inhaled the poison GAS they thought would bring money for years but we make sure they got the message and quite a few games got cancelled you know as well a hit like that take years to be corrected and by now they hopefully will have taken steps away from the GAS and slowed their approach to them.

But... but... the garbage-mongers always tell us that Square Enix is in trouble! 😂

Christopher74d ago

Square doesn't help that it fear mongers itself with ridiculous 'goals' that they can't reach and then they proclaim failure if they don't reach it. They're quite freaking profitable and people act like they're dying.

SimulationDaily74d ago (Edited 74d ago )

Keep in mind that these "proclamations" are usually third-hand bad translations from somedude who was at the investor conference, posted on Twitter, and picked up by press and youtubers like they were gold, and then when the official translation comes out, they're much softer statements, but at that point, the damage is done.

to be very fair

being number one on these things does not indicate how "well" their games do selling wise.

Capcom Insists It Won't Use AI-Generated Assets in Its Games, Will Harness Tech during Development

Capcom has clarified its current stance on generative AI in its videogames. The major Japanese publisher and developer behind popular series like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter has revealed that while it doesn't use gen-AI assets in their games, it is exploring ways to use generative AI to streamline the game development process.

Chocoburger75d ago

Using Artificial Intelligence (more like Realistic Stupidity) art assets in your games is a great way to get people to boycott your product. We don't need that ugly, unsophisticated, generic, fake art in our games, good on CAPCOM for not using that garbage.

blacktiger75d ago
