Insomniac Sees Resistance 'Going To Another Developer'

Resistance is generally considered one of the marquee franchises in Sony's lineup, a hopeful system-seller for the PlayStation 3. Insomniac Games has been crafting Resistance since its inception, but that may not be the case much longer. During an interview with us, Insomniac's creative director Marcus Smith pointed out that the studio is "not currently slated to do Resistance 4" and could "see the series going to another developer."

So long as it doesn't go to Activision like Spyro...

DA_SHREDDER5380d ago (Edited 5380d ago )

Just when I thought the spyro series couldn't get worse too. Man I love to at least see an HD remake of Spyro 1-3. Sony should have bought that, along with Crash Bandicoot when they had the chance.

BTW, i would love to see Santa Monica or Guerrilla Games do something with Resistance. It seems like Insomniac started off with the right ideas, but just couldn't hit the nail on the head.

-Alpha5380d ago (Edited 5380d ago )

What!?

Activision has taken Spyro in a wonderful direction!

http://www.spyrohints.com/i... Spunky, witty, sense of humor Spyro

Demonic, schizophrenic, meth-head Spyro

Clearly, Activision has done well

MidnytRain5380d ago

God. I haven't played a Spyro game since the PS1 days, I think. I didn't realize how bad it'd gotten.

Calvin_ISA5380d ago

-Alpha
I lol'd. Apparently peoples' sarcasm detectors quit working. That "meth-head Spyro" quip was insanely accurate. Hahaha.

MaxOpower5380d ago

Spyro 1 is still one of my favorite games of all times. Insanely well done.

And for the most part, it holds op, the camera controls are poor. But the art style is so strong, that the game holds up visually.

If you haven't played them yet (The first tree) then go do it, it's only like 3$ per game.

bruddahmanmatt5379d ago

Sony owns the Resistance IP. If the main series gets handed off to another dev, it'll be one of SCE's choosing assuming they don't opt to sell the franchise to another publisher. Those of you talking about it going to Activision can calm the F down.

thereapersson5379d ago

I caught the sarcasm. Well-done, sir :)

Spyro, ironically, is soon making a showing on the 3DS.

Ju5380d ago

Sony owns the Resistance franchise. As long as they don't sell it to Activision, the chances are low they will ever get their hands on it.

zero_cool5379d ago (Edited 5379d ago )

I just called the main office to insomniac games told them to not give activision the resistance series if they decide to give it to another studio because they destroy series by milking them for profit!

P.S..Here's the link to email them & the phone number to the main office if you would like to call them instead...

insomniac games office number: (818)729-2400

Cheers Gamers & Happy Gaming!

Blooper625379d ago

Or even Guerrilla. It will turn into a brown, black, and dark red game and be over hyped like killzone. Resistance is so underrated compared to killzone.

showtimefolks5379d ago

with ratchet and resistance this fall. They will be doing no more exclusives i think and if their game does poorly with EA they will run back to sony

but i hope their game does well since i like insomniac and their sense of humor plus their weapons

ready at dawn did quite a great job with GOW series so its not like another studio can't do resistance game look at resistance game on psp and the new resistance game both of which are not done by insomniac

best of luck insomniac i hope your relationship with sony continues into the future you been great to us the PS fans thank you for everything

ConstipatedGorilla5379d ago

I'm not sure they'll read your post.

subtenko5379d ago

Insomniac is cool. Here they are saying "Hey we really like Resistance, but we want to work on another thing, dont worry we are giving the franchise to a trusted developer. We dont want anyone to f*** up this game"

Agree of Disagree if you Agree or Disagree

ChronoJoe5377d ago

Spyo was never owned by Sony.

NYC_Gamer5380d ago

Maybe since they are now 3rd party and busy with other projects

badz1495380d ago (Edited 5380d ago )

Was and still is 3rd party. They are independent all these times

gamingdroid5379d ago

I think Insomniac was considered second party.

NicSage5380d ago

Insomniac has just let me down big time, i'm seriously doubtful of Resistance 3, the Multiplayer isn't all that in the beta.

I really feel they have been putting more resources into the multiplatform title Strike something, can't even remember the name. Overstrike? Either way the graphics are so muddy on Resistance 3 feels like i'm playing the game on an SD TV.

Brownghost5380d ago

game looks like a better version of black ops with alien weapons and aliens

NicSage5380d ago

That is the problem exactly.

f7897905380d ago

Some might call that a plus. (not me)

initial_kay5380d ago

yeah i just played the r3 bet... not impressed.... this is depressing as i loved R1..... then r2 went downhill..and r3 is just a 17.95 buy for me...

badz1495380d ago

17.95?? Dollars? Launch day? Where? Or are you waiting at the bargain bin several months down the line?

Coramoor_5380d ago

major troll, i've played parts of the sp and the mp beta, the mp beta looks absolutely fine and the sp looks a lot better,

overstrike is being developed by an entirely seperate studio, so there would be no resource stealing

NicSage5380d ago

You are the troll, I've been playing the beta for awhile now, this is my opinion about the graphical feel of the game, I think the textures look muddy and blurry, if you can't see that you are blind.

Sevir045380d ago

Troll for judging a game that's gone gold since early this month but playing beta code! Final game isn't out yet. And you're judging the game based on beta code. Everyone knows multiplayer footage isn't anywhere near as good as single player graphics.. troll is troll!

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8519d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele19d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk19d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay19d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10119d ago (Edited 19d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit18d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg18d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10118d ago (Edited 18d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14919d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle32d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit32d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog32d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog32d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad32d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_32d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage32d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda32d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
