Why “From Dust” Deserves your Attention

Haven’t heard of From Dust? You’re not alone. Many gamers have managed to pass up this extraordinary Xbox Live Arcade title. Here’s why this is a game worth trying out.

Before I begin, I’d like to get something out of the way. From Dust isn’t entirely the first of its kind. Being put into the shoes of a deity has been done many times, and it’s unlikely that this game will be the last, either.

I recently finished From Dust 100% and it was one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. I highly recommend this game to anyone looking for a challenging alternative to shooters & RPGs. :)

Jpinter5393d ago

The game reminds me a lot of Populus. The engine and dynamics of weather and earth shifting effects is amazing.

Godmars2905393d ago

It just doesn't interest me. Sorry if this offends you.

The Board5393d ago

Doesn't offend me, it's just not your type of game, that's fair enough

Nitrowolf25393d ago

I'm split with this game. It doesn't really interest me but at the same time i still want to try it just see what it's about. Might rent it

JoePrime5393d ago

It's an Arcade game... you can download the demo, which I highly recommend. But I doubt you'll be able to rent it anywhere. ;)

Nitrowolf25393d ago

@Joe

I did not know that thanks and i just realized it's a 360 title. LOL now i kind of want to play it some more. Guess i'll try it on my brother console

Jpinter5393d ago

Great Feature. From Dust definitely deserves attention as a downloadable title.

Silly gameAr5393d ago

It feels like people are trying to push games on you and force you to get interested in them lately.

TruthbeTold5393d ago

While that may be, and it's not exactly cool, A LOT of gamers need to expand their gaming horizons and try some different things.

ThanatosDMC5393d ago

Bought it on steam and then steam gave me my money back. Weird, but i still have the game. Anyway, the game isnt that good. The trailers look great but the controls on the PC feels weird. Oh well, i bought it for "free".

Godmars2905393d ago

Probably has to do with the DRM issue. Ubisoft apparently promised that there wasn't going to be any, but there was.

Can you play it offline?

pody5392d ago

Yes the controls on pc are pretty horrible. It seems like a bad console port. The concept is is really cool, but too bad it's really boring in the beginning. I tried it last night.

I'll probably try it again. It can't be that boring all the way.

ThanatosDMC5392d ago

Nope, cant play without signing on to Ubisoft.

Kee5393d ago

I got as far as "xbox live arcade game" then stopped reading. Even if it is good, I can't play it.

The Board5393d ago

PC version should already be out and a PS3 version is scheduled for a Q3 2011 release.

Kee5393d ago (Edited 5393d ago )

Ahh, well, I'm not off the hook, yet. :)

Actually, just looked at some gameplay and I'm really considering this game, now. It looks great

pody5392d ago (Edited 5392d ago )

Wrong comment placement.

curse you ubisoft and your DRM

qwertyz5393d ago (Edited 5393d ago )

curse ubisoft and their undying love for MS

@below

no I own all platforms including a high end pc, just don't like their love affair with MS thats all aside from that there's no reason why the ghost recon: future soldier beta can't be on all platforms rather than xbox 360 exclusive.

Brownghost5393d ago

i guess your angry at conviction and from dust being only pc and xbox

Jpinter5393d ago

Yeah, the DRM has put some limitations on PC gaming.

MRHARDON5393d ago

Oh, I can tell you, From Dust definitely got my attention, but not in a good way though.

I can't sit here and act like I know these workers financial situations. And I'm sure nobody wakes up WANTING to go to court. But for the sake of the industry, I wish some of these types of cases made it to trial.

Settlements allow companies to continue to do whatever abusive practices they do. While the trials (should the company lose) would actually force real changes for the better.

But again, I'm not in these workers shoes and I can understand them not wanting to risk it.
