Devil May Cry: Recycling Heavenly Swords Combat Engine

Prior to Enslaved, Ninja Theory was know for creating fun action adventure titles that had high production values; mostly because of their work on Heavenly Sword. Well, that reputation is returning in Devil May Cry 5, as the Ninjas have pulled from one of there best games to make DMC a hit.

No it couldn't, combat in heavenly sword was boring and repetitive. Only good thing about that game were graphics and voice acting. Gameplay mechanics were horrible (along with framerate).

Simon_Brezhnev5393d ago

Tell me what game is not repetitive. FPS is the most repetitive genre.

NewZealander5393d ago

fully agree, i have no idea why so many loved HS, i thought it was a disjointed mess of a game, graphics were good for back then though.

as a developer ninja theory is pretty average.

chidori6665393d ago

Well, that reputation is returning in Devil May Cry 5"

nope... NT have always been mediocre devs. this guys need to get their shit together if they want to survive much longer.

Godchild10205393d ago

It could be... Heavenly Sword was awesome.

MintBerryCrunch5393d ago

I like how a game that scored a lot of 8's (Enslaved) is looked at as a game prior to their success with Heavenly Sword, a game that got dogged on by NT

Enslaved scored pretty well, the game didn't sell well and it was seen in a negative light because of NT's immaturity

mac_sparrow5393d ago (Edited 5393d ago )

that's why I only rented it. That and the platforming almost played itself.

rdgneoz35393d ago

It was seen in a negative light because while Enslaved had a great story, the combat and platforming were blah. You could button mash fight the whole game and for platforming, you could never screw up really. Also, another reason it didn't sell well was because it came out when there were a lot of other games at the time. Heavenly sword's combat was great, but the story was a bit on the short side which was the major complaint of many.

And as for the article, hopefully they keep the DMC fast paced action. That and that the enemy AI is better than what was shown in the demo.

PhoenixDevil5393d ago (Edited 5393d ago )

I wondered about this after seeing the recent DMC trailer that came out of Gamescom looked to have a similar fluidity n free form style that Heavenly Sword had (<--my favourite free form fighting system ever) and it also seemed to have touches of DMC3 style with changing weapons n attack style mid combo which was really well done in DMC3 if it combines the best of both of these combat systems as well as it seems then I'm going to have to forget that Dante is now an emo n get the game

TVippy5393d ago

OMG, they're fucking KILLING me. As well as the great franchise. DMC4's fighting system was godly, whereas HS's is the worst unresponsive sluggish and unspectacular piece of shit I can think of.

HeavenlySnipes5393d ago

I borrowed DMC4 from a friend (haven't played any other one) and from what I remember, the game as a whole felt average. The story was wierd (save the girl from demon people as Nero or whatever, then he gets trapped so you must REPLAY EVERY LEVEL AGAIN AS DANTE -_-). I thought the combat was iffy for me also. It reminded me off Legacy of Kain tbh not really fast paced and fluid but not slow either. The new trailer looked like a game I'd actually play.

TVippy5393d ago

Replaying all the levels sucked, but name a game with a better fighting system. Heavenly Sword? O_o

Pozzle5393d ago (Edited 5393d ago )

Similar to Legacy of Kain? o.O
Not sure where you got that from, since DMC's gameplay is NOTHING like DMC's gameplay. They're barely even in the game genre. If I had to make a comparison, I'd say LoK's gameplay is more similar to Uncharted's (just not as fluid), which makes sense considering Amy Hennig was behind both of them. But yeah, DMC and LoK plays very differently.

Pozzle5393d ago

Oops, that was meant to say "DMC's gameplay is NOTHING like Legacy of Kain's gameplay."

Capcom says it wants Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney to be 'core IPs' like Monster Hunter

Sorry if you were expecting Bionic Commando.

ZeekQuattro165d ago

Actions speak louder than words. Show me a new Mega Man game that isn't a collection of games I played yesteryear. If they can churn out some kind of RE game every other year they can make a new Mega Man entry. It's not like it's known for its deep stories.

Christopher165d ago

I can see DMC, but the others just weren't built for that without some major adjustments on how they're played.

lukasmain165d ago (Edited 165d ago )

If they make the right choices and right kinds of games, the Mega-Man IP could potentially be made into an animated film or streaming series like the success of Mario and Sonic. Surely that thought may have crossed their minds? Or am I being silly? I mean there is a lot more water to go under the bridge for them to even start considering that. But I used to be a big mega-man fan back in the day. I'd love to see it happen.

It’s being done on purpose just to destroy inafune . It’s some pride stuff on the inside .

blacktiger165d ago

all talk and if they launch it will cost $200

shinXseijuro165d ago

Just like the guys said . I’ll believe it when I see it . Even the shareholders are asking questions regarding Megaman . I don’t want to sound ludacris but I have a strong conviction that the heads at Capcom are purposely holding the Megaman IP down because of their grudge and spite towards inafune on some deeper Japanese honour code stuff . It’s deeper than we think . You can tell something isn’t right .

VersusDMC165d ago

Well i hope DMC is being worked on. Either a remake of 1 or 6 will do.

And bring back Megaman X. Either regular, command mission or make it a Metroidvania since silksong is so popular.
