It is an honest question. For months Sony has been nothing but arrogant, claiming victory on like 3 occasions. So this is a big change for the CEO to be talking like this. Maybe he knows somthing? Maybe , WB is leaving BD soon, I doubt it but who knows? There is a long way to go in this format war but, even Blueray fans must admit this CEO's comments did not sound good for Sony or Blueray.

There are alot of things I don't agree with in this article. The one that stands out the most is the assertion that sales of the console are awful when compared to the Wii. Newsflash:Both consoles are falling behind against the Wii and it shows no sign of slowing up. In it's first year it already sold 12 million consoles!!!!What is going to compete with that? Also admitting reality is not a sign of weakness. Very little people doubt that Sony was reaching when it said the war was over(High Def Sales account for a fraction of DVD sales)since neither format has been widely adopted yet. And people on both sides are forgetting something vital: If something is only for Blu-Ray and not HD-DVD, you can still get the DVD(which isn't going to stop selling anytime soon)

Having a cheap ass HD-DVD player for 200.00 dollars is no incentive. People are complete Idi@ts if they think buying and Hd-DVD player over a Playstation is better. For 200.00 dollars more you get true HD/1080P, gaming console, internet browser, computer, high-end movie player, mp3 player, music video/movie player, linux, photo slide screensaver, updates, higher disk space capacity, and the list goes on and on. So go out and buy a HD-DVD player that only does one thing and that is to watch movies in it. I don't think this is a deal at all but and act of desperation of the HD-DVD camp and Bloodmask too.

Did he not know that Microsoft is supporting this format??? THIS IS MICROSOFT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, YOU DONT GIVE THESE BASTARDS A CHANCE......he should of asked Steve Jobs on any hints on how to take down Microsoft together, since his part of the Blu camp.

Without there BluRay we would have naturally went from DVD2HDDVD, and I would have had my 3rd Playstation right now. Believe me I hated Microsoft's Xbox, but since im a gamer I get a console dedicated to GAMES.

I think the main point in that story is: There are 10 other companies left on the fence not making any money because stand alone BR-DVD players aren't selling because of the cost. Sony is the only company profitting from this (actually they are losing tons). That doesn't bode to well for the rest of the companies with BR-DVD hardware.

The Wal-Mart effect is huge and to a lesser extent the K-Mart effect. Both huge huge things for HD-DVD.

It doesnt matter how you try, Blu-ray is winning. If it really does start going the other way, BLu-ray can just pay Universal or Warner to go BD exclusive.

If you think Blu-ray is winning you obviously didn't listen to Stringer when he said Blu-ray was in a stalemate with HD-DVD. Had Toshiba said that HD-DVD was in a stalemate with Blu-ray it would mean there was nothing else Toshiba could do to win the game, but it was Sony who declared Blu-ray to be in a stalemate with HD-DVD which means there's nothing that Sony can do to win the game (aka. Blu-ray is dead.)

Had MS\Toshiba not giving out money which Im not against, business do what they gotta do, this would be pretty much over. HD DVD is a thorn and it will soon be gone, thorns and splinters eventually fall out naturally, HD DVD will eventually fall out and go away, time is time folks. Blue Ray is the winner, random headlines are the only thing holding HD DVD in the news these days

BR hasn't a chance. I'm counting the days until absolute victory. I love the smell of HD DVD's in the morning.

It would seem to me that HD DVD is one big move away from winning this thing and Sony is more than happy to focus on its video game division and leave the money-draining format war behind.

To those who would question HD DVD's inevitable victory by throwing numbers around, then I would ask you to check out HD DVD stand-alone unit numbers vs. BR's at the end of the year (PS3's don't count). Numbers won't lie. It's the most...wonderful time...of the year!

The story attempts to say that Walmart is embracing HD-DVD, but:

1. I've never seen these ads nor heard anything from Walmart on anything HD-DVD related except the big sale of players last weekend.

2. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Sam's Club apart of Walmart Corp. (obviously)? Well, my point is that Sam's has gone BD exclusive, been that way for awhile now. Kind of weird how one side of the company would be pushing one platform when the other is doing the opposite. And please don't give me that "covering their bases" or other crap. The stores are out to make money not friends.

3. Been to a few Walmarts and I've yet to see HD-DVDs in store, but BD's were there.

I don't know what this CEO is on about, but when all the independent numbers show that BD is clearly outselling HD-DVD (in software & hardware) even when HD-DVDs biggest movies come out then I must be seeing something different than him. That sale last week reeked more of them trying to get out from under that product and at best make room for xmas stock or at worst...well you can figure that out.

The PS3 and Sony's titles will make the BR stay alive if HD-DVD start pulling a 2:1 sales rate - which is quite unlikely.

It is up to HD-DVD to keep a niche for itself with a couple of exclusive publishers. The ones making constant statements is HD-DVD - quite like the Iraq Minister of Information about how they are winning when in the background you see the enemy tanks rolling in.

HD-DVD winning with standalone players - back at the ranch in some regions not available - others outsold 9:1 and in the best case 2:1 outsold. Yeah they are winning all right. With the biggest push they got close to BR for one week - but still lost.

If there is any rumor against sony or against anything to do with sony such as blueray you have to post it. You need to get out more maybe get a woman or 2. I only come to this site to hear reviews not here anti stuff that are mainly rumors. You all can hate me i dont care i rather have a site that list facts and stops the fanyboyism... Yes i own 360 and ps3 well sold 360. I like both systems i like Hd-Dvd and blueray aswell.

I see a logic to people saying the PS3 dose not count.I maybe wrong here but i really don't think the PS3 can hold the weight of Blue-ray on its own.Because if Sony have sold the highest amount of Blue-ray players(PS3) and still lost tonnes of money then what about other companies that are making standalone players that cost the same as the 40gb PS3.

One can only assume the amount of money they are loosing as of the result of selling their players(which i here are doing poorly).So if they back out of the race then Blue- ray will be dead.And no one should forget that Toshiba is signing a deal with a Chinese company to start selling Blue-ray players in that region.which only means that HD-DVd prices will come down even more.So the fight goes on.

Really i don't know who will win or who will loose because i have simply decided not to buy any.But one thing i know for sure is that if Sony and its backers cant find a way of reducing the huge looses that they are making from BD disks.Then the tides might end up moving to HD-DVD.

In all honestly this article is a piece of crap lol. All these HD articles lately have been. A waste of time to read, as it is to debate them. While they will coexist for a while with Blu-ray with more backers (hardware, software, retailers, etc.) it will be around longer that HD-DVD it's obvious.

I dont and I'm sure not many others do, as far as I see it blu ray is only really gonna be used fo games, the same way UMD's are on PSP, and in the end some other format, better and cheaper will come along and no one will even remember blu ray or hd dvd. I also think that the name blu ray means that hd dvd will win anyway, as normal ppl will associate the names HD and DVD but will look over the silly named Blu Ray, I mean seriously who came up with that, at least if it was Blu Ray DVD then casual buyers would have some word association there. Thats my two bits.

PS gamers have to fight the Wii, 360 and HD DVD. Hope it works out well.
