Does 3D Enrich Gaming?

The 3DS price drop has opened up 3D gaming even to those on a tight budget. But does 3D really add anything to the gaming experience or is it just another gimmick.

I think it depends on the game. In some cases it does, Ocarina Of Time 3D is one kick ass game in 3D. But like the author says, it's way less effective when it comes to other genres.

Best handheld gaming experience since Pokemon GSC.

pat_11_55383d ago

I tend to agree. I'm not a fan of 3D but Ocarina Of Time was definitely impressive. Ashphault 3D on the other hand - totally was not.

Ageed, marketing makes it seem like it super enriches
gameplay.

FriedGoat5383d ago

does loads for gaming if your running a pc hooked up to a 3DTV. very impressive.
3ds and ps3 not so much.

bumnut5383d ago

Yes it does, I see no reason to buy a 3DTV due to lack of content.

Gaming solves that problem for me.

tiffac5383d ago (Edited 5383d ago )

I actually have to agree with your comment. I also purchased an HDTV for gaming ^^

When you don't have good vision or anywhere close to 20/20, then its pointless

3D has been in movies for generations, and yet, it's because of AVATAR did the industry took the idea seriously. What exactly did they do right that the others didn't? Was it because it was actually IMMERSIVE, or maybe because they really pushed the boundaries of 3D unlike before.

It's the law of unique concepts: bring something that truly delivers to what it's advertised to do and you will get your promised reception. One can't be lackluster in these things you know.

-End statement

That is a good point and an important principle. On that same token, if a product does things that may be appealing and the masses are not informed, it wont necessarily sell itself. In a world where people are constantly bombarded with marketing/advertising, the quality of the marketing can be just as important as the quality of the product in some cases.

As far as 3D gaming goes, IMO in some instances it can enrich a gaming experience. It's somewhat like sound, it may take a while to be perfected, but when done correctly can really help with immersion.

Personally, I can't wait to pick up the OOT remake and it's been a while since I've played it.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Review

Gary Green said: Being a writer exclusively for PlayStation is immensely rewarding, yet it does have its drawbacks. It was easy enough to distance myself from the ever decreasing number of Xbox exclusives, yet parting ways with Nintendo was hard, and it only got harder over time. Sooner or later, I knew I'd be back, and as I frantically search for the most efficient and cost-effective ways to play the Nintendo classics which I've missed out on over the years, revisiting the best of the best comes first.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time came out during a time where every console had its charms. Whether you were team Sega, Nintendo, or Sony, everyone knew the game's potential, and the players who invested in Nintendo's chunky N64 console were not disappointed. Like Sega's ill-fated Saturn, it may have been a console which lacked in quantity of games, but the quality was certainly there.

Ocarina of Time was a game that was hard to put down. We would bounce home excitedly from high school, ready to wander the lands of Hyrule once again to find another secret or two, before preparing ourselves to tackle that next intimidating dungeon. It's time to retell this story. Ready your ocarina.

I've been waiting years for this review!

Yes, this is one of the true masterpieces that I believe every core gamer should play.

It even holds up to this day.

Babadook7299d ago

There is a heavily rumoured Switch 2 remake also.

I’ve never heard of this rumor.

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

If you're gonna troll, at least make a legitimate attempt.

Levii_92366d ago

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

LG_Fox_Brazil366d ago

That's a pretty fucking great list

__y2jb365d ago (Edited 365d ago )

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.
