Does he talk about the dick move of locking single-player offline content in used copies of the game?

He probably doesn't because it'd make him look like a dick.

What a dick.

meetajhu5301d ago (Edited 5301d ago )

you ass wipe the content is only locked for console gamers. Its free on PC i.e Steam. Don't abuse legends. dumb ass.

@below

He just said what it is. He never mentioned the game is going to look or run bad. Infact Ps3 is the superior console version. BTW ND/Guriella are Sony Devs obvious is obvious they don't have to pay fee for developing on that platform where is 3rd party devs have to pay 10$ fee to the console manufactures.

I wonder why developers like Naughty Dog/Guerrilla are able to make graphical powerhouses (when compared to the 360) yet never complain about memory issues?

He must be stuck developing on the PS3 like it's a PC.

cstyle5301d ago

Just because you don't hear complain doesn't mean they don't. PS3 has difficulty architecture. When devs like Carmack says it, then you know its a pain to develop for.

GamersRulz5301d ago

he didn't bash the PS3, he simply said that PS3 is more challenging because the memory is segmented and sony uses more of the memory than MS

Eiffel5301d ago (Edited 5301d ago )

Developers like Naughty Dog and Guerrilla have more in house resources and support to work with than say a third party who isn't familiar with the PS3's infrastructure. Like sever stated, if John Carmack had pains developing on it, then you know it's a pain, considering the man is a programming prodigy.

kingdoms5301d ago (Edited 5301d ago )

PS3 Devs would get better results from ps3 exclusives on 360 that is all.

Microsoft doesn't have 1st party devs with 1st party engines designed for 360 hardware, only average dime a dozen multi platform engines and lesser built good multiplatform engines. Sony has a lot of engines and 1st party devs that tailor games for ps3 hardware.

This is why when 3rd party developers *actually build a great engine* that can push the 360 you get games like Crysis, Rage etc. Same goes for 360 1st party devs taking the time and investing, resulting in visually unmatched games like Forza 4 or partners making games like gears

LOGICWINS5301d ago

@kingdoms- Errr? U mind explaining what you just said right there?

trancefreak5301d ago

Well Sony will have learned from these developers and make a more open friendly platform next gen. That's all there is too it.

I don't play consoles much anymore.I went back too PC gaming so I just care about the PC version unless its an exclusive console game worth buying.

ChickeyCantor5301d ago

"I wonder why developers like Naughty Dog/Guerrilla are able to make graphical powerhouses"

Because Sony is funding them...

mrmikew20185301d ago

Can you point out in the article where he bashed the PS3?

aGameDeveloper5300d ago

If you write an engine for a single platform, you can tailor the code, content and design to its strengths. If you write a multi-platform engine, you are limited to the lowest common denominator in each regard, unless you spend 3x the time and expense to write three different engines/games. This doesn't mean any particular platform is necessarily better or worse than the next, it just means that all these tiny cuts make it harder to match an exclusive with a multi-plat title.

I'm for locking ALL content from used copies. Devs dont see one penny from people like you

5301d ago
knifefight5301d ago

Define "people like (me)" in more detail please. :)

imoutofthecontest5301d ago

Mehmeh. This is becoming another used vs. new topic, surprise surprise.

For all the negative of a dev/pub not getting cash *directly* from a used sale, it DOES help promote their name and franchises for the next go-round. That's why sequels often sell more than the originals; for all the more copies the original might have sold, the sequel would take a hit due to a lot of people simply passing the original up. This is time-tested fact. Kind of like how inFamous 2 benefited greatly from Sony's Welcome Back package offering the original for free.

Those non-profit copies eventually became profit in a lot of cases. Plus some people buy new games planning on trading them in later. Without that option, you'd have less new sales too. It all goes round and round.

Japan's a pretty good example of a thriving game business where used sales are even more common than they are in NA. Western journalists like to say gaming is, for some reason, dead in Japan because they don't like the games they get, but dude, come over here and take a look things. Used game shops are over the place, and yet, on launch days of big titles, lines stretch outside the stores. They coexist just fine.
*Sigh*

The_Xtrakt5301d ago

Every used game was new at some point, so publishers have no right to complain.

They already got paid.

GamersRulz5301d ago

can someone explain this part to me:

"Unfortunately, the PC suffers so much from API overhead. We have some systems with 10 times the raw horsepower of the consoles, and they are still struggling to maintain the 60 FPS rate. Now, PCs can render 10 times as many fragments, they can be running in 4xAA 1080p, but if I want to do all these things in 15 milliseconds, the PC is at a bit of a handicap – and it has to make up for it with raw brute force."

Did he just say that they struggle to maintain 60FPS on X10 more powerful PCs ?

Chnswdchldrn5301d ago

idk, can somebody clarify that im wondering what he meant exactly

cozmo1955301d ago

@Chnswdchldrn
I think he means that it's harder to optimize for the PC so some PC's have to rely on raw power to run at that level of graphics because there are many different types of hardware, however consoles are easier as everyone has the same hard ware so much easier to optimise

hiredhelp5301d ago (Edited 5301d ago )

More i hear that. The more sounds like a port from 360.
yeh the guys good i listened for over hour watched the quakecon video. Were he gave his speach well seem more like a lecture.
From all of that its true. He didnt seem too happy about ps3. But more shocked when he stated about issues with pc.
But yet only thing he said about 360 was the discs but quickly chamged to fact why the install be soo much better. Cos the ram better twxtures load from HDD better. Then went on to say about how ms have gave out dev kits to most 3rd party devs for tje 360.
Then next day a post come up on n4g. From Bethesda stating basicly relax its ok. The game run fine everything be the same. That got me more bit concerned. As a pc gamer and a ps3 owner.

aGameDeveloper5300d ago

Since the consoles have locked hardware specs, you can code directly to the hardware much of the time. For PC, your code filters through so many abstraction layers that you need more raw horsepower to overcome the losses at each level.

nickjkl5301d ago

hes talking about direct x

ChickeyCantor5301d ago (Edited 5301d ago )

"Unfortunately, the PC suffers so much from API overhead"

Meaning that PCs are making use of wrappers and what not so that every hardware becomes abstract and compatible with the running software/games.

If you can get rid of all the extra API and what not your software will work closer to the hardware. Or simply put optimized.

wolfofashes5300d ago

Simple,He is complaining because of the distance between developer and hardware so you cannot optimize the code for PCs the way you can do for consoles.Consoles are always the same thing, but a person has an infinite array of options when it comes to building a PC.

Let's hope id software dose not pull a lie-tek!

zero_cool5301d ago (Edited 5301d ago )

Sounds like a frustrated developer playing the blame game & whipping up a set of quick excuses to cover up failure this is pretty shameful coming from an veteran developer!

N4g_null5300d ago

It's not the blame game when he has proven he knows what he is talking about. John is hinting what many already knew. An i7 with an hd5000 would make a console almost 10x as powerful as the pc of the same spec. The same goes for the hd4000. I mean really we have x1600 trying to keep up with hd 5000s now. That wasn't even thinkable on pc.

John explains all of this and he does not generalize like pr men he can even show you code to verify it.

US Lawmakers Urge Review Of EA Sale

The Congressional Labor Caucus sent a letter to the FTC warning the debt-financed, largely PIF-owned deal could be bad news for workers

Trilithon24d ago

lol ya think? they're sending all that work to the cheaper labor market as soon as possible. and FYI, that labor market has exploded in the last 5-10 years. They have enough people to replace every single job. But honestly, EA is over filled with useless upper management as it is. You could probably trim 25% of their staff with no real loss in production. They aren't gamers, they're business execs. Just look at how many AI related jobs they're already starting to post. Its also hilarious that PIF owns Battle field 6

lodossrage24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

Wait,

The same congress that attacked Lina Khan when she fought the Microsoft Activision purchase.
The same congress that allowed Disney to buy 90% of Fox
The same congress that allowed Liv Golf to buy the PGA
The same congress that sits back while Paramount tries a hostile takeover despite losing the bid for Warner Bros.

NOW, the suddenly cares about doing what's "right" for works? Yeah, right.

thorstein24d ago

No. There were elections and some of the scum were replaced.

TheColbertinator23d ago

Different elections. Different scum. Same results.

i know its a long shot, but i hope this gets shot down.

EA now owned by The Saudis and Ubisoft to inevitably be owned by China. In hindsight, once EA and Ubisoft started having their financial woes, they should have pulled a Koei Tecmo/Bandai Namco by merging their operations into one.

Saudi Arabia Will Own 93 Percent Of Battlefield 6 Publisher EA

When the dust settles on the $55 billion leveraged buyout of Electronic Arts, Saudi Arabia will be its only true owner, despite a “consortium” of investors being involved in the deal. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund will control 93 percent of the company, according to filings with Brazil’s antitrust regulator.

blacktiger75d ago

Technically speaking, Saudi Arabia and TENCENT can buy the entire USA. ANf Democrat and Republican will not do crap!

Inverno75d ago

Letting foreign entities own half of American businesses is liberal and very progressive. So is bringing in all that talent from outside the States to replace the talentless and lazy American workers. And here I thought the Trump administration wanted to border is up but nope. We're supposed to worry bout them "radical Muslims" minding their own here and ignore China/Saudi/Israel taking over.

blacktiger75d ago

Another thing I hate hearing is "liberal and very progressive"
It's 2025 and that stuff is outdated. Everything and everyway is literally the same thing wheter it's progressive, conservativ. Because they all wants the same thing have, king unlimited oney buy everything including your house.

Now they making mainstream media news that it's AI Bubble justify to highjack the price of RAM.
Another excuse for inflation!

Tacoboto75d ago

"here I thought the Trump administration wanted to border is up but nope"

Lol, you actually bought what he was selling? Let's see this week alone...

Yesterday he pardoned an international drug lord, while allowing the murder of random fishermen on boats. Remember drain the swamp? He pardoned a Democratic Congressman jailed for bribery just today, nevermind that fraudulent drag queen republican that was kicked out of Congress and imprisoned for their fraud. It's so petty they're picking fights on social media with pop stars while using their music, and even using Franklin the damn Turtle to cartoonify their murders.

thorstein75d ago

You believed him!?!!

I've got some Trump $5000 bills for you, only half off.
