Are EA planning a new Alpha Centauri game?

According to two registered trademarks, EA could be planning a new game for the Alpha Centauri franchise.

The cult turn-based strategy series hasn't seen a new game since Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri was released for the PC in 1999. In 2009 the EA owned trademark expired, but these newly registered trademarks by EA have sparked speculation from fans that a new title is expected to be announced soon.

Alpha Centauri was a good game - Civilization in Space. The only thing in my opinion that destroyed the gameplay was when after the factions discovered the tech to create off-shore cities...I hope they won't do that again.

Somehow i can see them making it casual friendly. Cartoony graphics with 'cute' and 'funny' races.

I remember this game! Hopefully they don't butcher it into a completely different game.

Yeah, an Alpha Centauri game without Sid Meier, how exciting... I hope they don't ruin it like they ruined the CnC franchise after letting go most of the staff from WWS.

I think it would be great to see a new Alpha Centauri game for the PC. I also would enjoy a Vita version too. Because I think the touch screen could work well for the game.

I wish we had a new Command and Conquer.

f you haven't already, consider getting 8-Bit Armies or the new 9-Bit Armies. They're made by some of the same folks from the older C&C, with very similar mechanics; it's just the aesthetics that are completely different.

C&C Red Alert 3 and The Saboteur were two different yet completely unforgettable games to me from a better era of EA.
