The game, from Red Fly Studio, was meant to be a sequel to the infamous 1997 game X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter. Sadly, it never made it out of the prototype phase. It had all the makings of a great game but was killed off, nearly before it had a chance to be.

I loved this line of games. Xwing and Tie Fighter (the better of the two) were amazing. X-Wing vs Tie Fighter wasn't as good overall but was still fun to play.
Yes! Tie Fighter and its expansion is still one of my top 3 favorite games of all time! Sadly we will never see another like it. Its impossible to make a console version because there's simply not enough buttons on the controller. Tie Fighter literally used every button on the keyboard.
I really would give my 3rd nut for a new Tie Fighter game.

Great series though, I concur with the article author. It might suck on consoles, sadly, and the number of PC gamers with flightsticks is abysmally low these days.
Bring X-Wing and something like X-Wing Alliance back, heck even a updated rogue leader would be awesome!
