Even though Hellgate: London isn't what I'd call a deep or rich role-playing experience, it does capture the quick hack'n-slash gameplay that has kept me up many late nights into sunrises playing Diablo II. My forearm still aches with the faint beginnings of carpel tunnel syndrome when I think back to the days of the original Diablo, which required one click per sword swing, destroying a handful of mice in its wake. But it didn't matter because I was hooked like millions of other players. This was role-playing made easy. No figuring out complicated die rolls or sorting through sheets of statistics. There were just our characters, their spectacular powers, tons of gear and loads of demonic forces climbing over each other to rip us to shreds. Before Flagship Studios, there was Blizzard North. Originally known as Condor, the Redwood-based studio was acquired in 1997 by Blizzard Entertainment. At the time, Blizzard North was hard at work on the development of the game that would be the cornerstone of everything that came after: Diablo.
IGN : Remember Hellgate: London? The dark fantasy action role-playing game came out in 2007 for PC, a year before developer Flagship Studios went bankrupt. Since then, various free-to-play and online revivals have come and gone. Now, 17 years after the release of Hellgate: London, it’s back.
I remember some friends and I all bought Hellgate: London day one because it was made by some original Diablo devs. We had fun playing it, good memories.
PC Invasion: Hellgate: London is back on Steam, but it's not what you expect it to be. It's a single-player game in the vein of Asian MMOs.
Damn there are many RPGs to play in one hand we have The Witcher(Dark mature RPG), the other we have Hellgate (bastard son of Diablo 2 with WOW)...in my foot I have Loki (yes cuz I have to satisfy my hunger for Diablo like games somehow)
