Yeah. Doomsday nay-sayers were saying the same about the ps3 when it released but that turned out fine and some excellent games came out for it. It took maybe 2 years, a year and a half before MGS4 and uncharted were released and the ps3 started selling because we could see a true demonstration of it's graphics. The 3DS needs to pull it's big guns out. Mario Kart 3DS will sell systems when it comes out. Pokemon will sell systems. I think ocarina of time has already started selling systems (even if it is a remake). Seriously, when games start to come out we'll be laughing all the way to our local game shop to pick a 3DS up.

This price drop is already making me consider getting one.

I look at the 3DS as being a slightly more powerful DS with 3D functionality added.

I can't wait to get my hands on the PS Vita. :)

Doomed? Maybe if they don't get the act together, but I am happy that their is a chance the 3DS will be cheaper.

No way I would pay that much for a system with nothing I want to play (Zelda I like but I got it for my N64 and Gamecube).

It wasn't really Nintendo's fault. It's a terrible economy right now. I don't think anyone is really dense enough to believe anything is going to sell great at such a high price point.

I will be getting one on August 12th however. It's got a sweet price point and a lot of games worth playing about to come out for it.

Nintendo always makes a profit, so I doubt this is a loss or anything like that. They definitely overestimated what people could afford to pay for a handheld though.

Samething will happen to vita present financial conditions means disposable income is tight retail sales are diving in lots of sectors mostly clothing,it may pick up eventually.

They were just trying to make HUGE bucks by making the 3DS $250... They will still be making money, probably more than when it was $80 more...

@ zootang your so right. The VITA is already doomed but a jump to cut the price of the 3DS in such a short period of time is nothing. If the VITA did this you would see how fast every other system fanboy would jump to say how its doomed and how Sony can never beat Nintendo blah blah blah. But now it looks like the 3DS is faltering, after all the boasting about how it will beat the record for Kinect systems sold and will be the fastest selling device ever, it is once again time to form the Nintendo defense wall and crank the excuse machine.

Nintendo fanboys always cry when you attack their precious systems but have no qualm with tearing at other systems. Just watch how many 'Nintendo is the king of handheld and VITA never had a chance' speeches you will hear if the VITA doesn't break past a million the first 1-2 weeks. You won't hear many 'give it a chance' ones.

Under powered, crappy games, over priced forced a 3DS price drop.

I think that Nintendo has got a lot wrong with the handheld.

1. The handheld market itself is being questioned, because mobile market is too strong atm.

2. Digital distribution is more enticing for publishers and developers, and Nintendo has admitted TODAY that it hasn't embraced the digital landscape

3. 3D technology is not suited to a small screen. The idea is to add depth to the moving images. It works well in some regards, but 3D does not have the market strength to move a product, which is what Nintendo was hoping the feature to do with its high price point and lacking launch lineup.

4. Nintendo acknowledged TODAY that not all future games will implement 3D.

5. Nintendo execs are all taking 30% salary cuts. Iwata taking 50% cut. He has detailed these cuts. You don't make such massive cuts if there isn't concern. They've done this to appease investors, who are asking questions.

To say 3DS isn't at least ON THE WAY to being doomed would be especially naive. Nintendo just cut the price 4 months after release ffs.

I think it has more to do than just lineup and price.

Hasn't everybody noticed that all consoles(including handhelds) seemed to be doomed this generation from bad manufacturing, bad price point, outside competition (yes I'm looking at you mobile devices) and even from hacking but it seems like everyone is still around and continues to sell well. lol!

The 3DS is far from doomed. But Nintendo have angered some people because they dropped the price so quickly. This is a completly normal reaction and it isnt anything to worry about. By this holiday season the anger will blow over once people start gamming with Mario and Starfox.
