Mark Healey, co-founder and creative director of LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule, has hit out at developers who are motivated by profit, arguing that those who view their audience solely as a potential source of revenue risk wasting their lives.

Sammy: "Sony disastrously and disgracefully shuttered Texas-based fan favourite Bluepoint yesterday. The long-time PS Studios partner never got a chance to ship a game under its new parent company.
This news hit me particularly hard because I believe it reflects the erosion of once-great PlayStation management that I think we’ve all been feeling for quite some time."
How was this allowed to happen? A studio know for excellent remakes and remasters were put on a GOW live service game? Something nobody wanted? There are so many other, more interesting projects, for me they were the prime studio who should have remastered or remade Bloodborne, what an absolute waste, I'm really annoyed about this.
Hulst should have followed Jim Ryan out the door, especially after his failed concord brainchild, execs really do only fail upwards.
It does concern me that they think closing amazing studios like Bluepoint and Japan Studios is smart.
I'm honestly surprised Media Molecule is still around. They put out what 1 game in the past 10+ years? I personally wasn't interested in Dreams, so they have been a wash for me since the PS3 era. Are they working on a new game? What are they doing?
Frustrating news, for sure. Hulst is on a major losing streak. Baffling decisions....
They could of let them do a Remakes of Sly, Jak and Daxter maybe the old Killzone games. Ported Demon Souls to other platforms. Steady revenue for growth becoming a 70 team to 100+ eventually.
As a PS Fan and someone that looks to new exsperiences not rehashing old ones I can feel for the devs but it does not move the needle as far as getting new video games.

A job listing published by the UK studio reveals that its next project will be another entirely new IP.
Good. Something not boring, not one of those "make your own game" crap and also on Steam would be nice.

IGN writes: "Media Molecule has said the layoffs at the Sony-owned studio have affected plans for ongoing community and curation support in Dreams."
How self sustained can DREAM be when it's basically stuck on PS4? I don't think it's even gotten a PS5 upgrade. Ending support for what is essentially a game making engine is basically death. SONY did DREAMS dirty.
I think its more the publishers revenue obsession...
they need to make a living. They can't just make content all day then give it away.
This is bullshit. If they were independent they would be singing a different song. Being propped up by Sony has its benefits. F*cking idiots. LDP2 is a downloadable title that is sold for full price anyway.
Easy for them to say when they are bank rolled by Sony.
I love LBP and Media Molecule are obviously amazingly talented, but of course profit is a motivator - if you don't make a profit, you can't grow and re-invest.
I see where he's coming from, and I think that the people actually creating the games should not be motivated by profit, as development is creative endeavour. Let the people who own the development studio and the publisher worry about profit.
@Father Murder X. LBP 2 is by no means a downloadable PSN type game being sold for full price. It may not have had the same impact as the first game, and for me wasn't as much fun as the 1st, but its still a quality game.
I'd just like to see more game packs like the MGS or pirates of the carribean which actually add more value to the game than the useless costumes they release on a regular basis.
