Split/Second 2 assets leaked, probably confirm game's cancellation

SystemLink: "Split/Second was great fun. The superbly slick and memorable TV-style presentation tied together a thrilling experience chock-full of deadly explosions, colossal destruction and sexy cars. The ending also set up a sequel nicely, with the promise of more nail-biting races leaving us ready to hand over our wallets to Black Rock Studios. Unfortunately, SystemLink have stumbled across some possibly depressing news."

Too bad, the first one was loads of fun if you could see past the "rubber-banding".

Blaze9295408d ago

The rubber band AI in that game was terrible. And online was too - all you needed to do was buy the DLC and you unlock every car? Thanks...thanks for that -_-. Because damn sure not many people could have been able to beat that tough single player.

But the game was still fun though - fresh racer. I enjoyed Blur more though

LOGICWINS5408d ago

I think the rubber banding was put there intentionally. Without the rubber banding, if you got too far ahead of the pack, then no one would be able to set traps for you. This would diminish the constant excitement of always having to watch your back.

Split/Second was the most fun I've ever had with a racing game since Burnout 3. Sad to see that there may not be a sequel.

Black Rock Studios is closed now so it "probably" confirms S/S2 cancel

LOGICWINS5408d ago

But I heard that former Black Rock Studio employees created a new company.

Blaze9295408d ago

Even if, I doubt they have the rights to the IP to make a sequel.

Split/Second was an amazing game that definitely holds me over until a new official Burnout game comes out. So sad to see the studio closed a few weeks ago. Pure was a great game also and I am not even into ATV games that much.

I enjoyed the game mode where you were avoiding the barrels coming out of trucks. It was hugely addictive and fun. Disney are morons.

Split/Second Is The Explosive Racing Game That Deserved a Sequel

The Outerhaven writes: Split/Second was the explosive arcade racing game that outshone Ridge Racer and Burnout. That is, until Disney shut it all down before a sequel could happen.

As a kid i had some heart attacks playing this game. The soundtrack right on point with those close calls. I love this game.

shadowhaxor314d ago

Agreed. I still love it and play it often. Still sucks that Disney was like, nah... this game didn't do well, when it did well against other racers and reviewed well.

maximusprime_314d ago

Split/Second was one of the game I enjoyed playing. In fact it's still the most popular video on my YouTube channel. It's a gameplay of Split/Second posted 15 years ago. This past month 25 people viewed it. Split/Second is a favourite amongst racing gamers worldwide.

AuraAbjure314d ago

This game was super awesome and hella fun playing split-screen with the homie. Trashing your friend’s car during split-screen competition using one of those QuickTime events was so funny haha

wesnytsfs314d ago

That and Blur both deserve a sequel, they came out within days of eachother.

Five Abused Video Game Visual Effects

Like children with new toys, developers can excitedly overdo it with visual effects until good sense prevails - here are five examples of exactly that from across video games history

Dirt on the lens (and JJ Abrahms style overuse of lens flare) is the worst, especially in war games like Battlefield. We're not supposed to be a camera! Way to ruin the illusion of actually being the player we're controlling.

PrimeVinister1775d ago

Yeah, that's a bad one that is missing from the list

FPS_D3TH1775d ago

Most soldiers today wear goggles or tactical glasses so dirt on the lens isn’t that much of a stretch tbh

isarai1775d ago

Vignettes, chromatic aberration, and that annoying thing where they blur the corners of the screen. Also film grain.

FPS_D3TH1775d ago

All those immediately get turned off when I load up my settings haha. Unless I’m going for screenshots it’s more than annoying

PrimeVinister1775d ago

You are mostly stuck with whatever terrible effects on console. There are some options like motion blur that can switched off but it's not common

PrimeVinister1775d ago

Depth of field is annoying. Along with most camera or lens effects.

But DoF will be cool in the future when they can track what you are looking at and apply DoF accordingly.

DeviateFish1775d ago

Don't forget camera shake and "realistic" camera movement in cutscenes.

porkChop1775d ago

The Syndicate reboot had the absolute worst bloom I've ever seen. It literally hurt my eyes and gave me a headache just from playing. I could never finish it.

PrimeVinister1775d ago

Absolutely. Beyond the distraction and obstruction, it looked unpleasant a lot of the time.

A Love Letter to Split/Second: Velocity

Racing games, on the outside are very attractive propositions to gamers and non-gamers alike. You don’t have to explain to somebody what the object of such a game is. You get in a car and try to get to the end of the course before the other racers, simple.

Really Enjoyed Split/second used to play it with my son all the time.

Einhander19712532d ago

Still own this beauty on ps3:)

KyRo2532d ago

One of my fave racers of all time. Such a cool concept. Gut wrenching knowing there will never be another one 😭

mcstorm2532d ago

I know I'm with you on that. One of the best racing games last gen. Love to see someone buy this IP and give it another go but I feel this game this gen with cross play would of had better legs and for me mp was the issue because it sold low on both consoles.

KyRo2532d ago

Easily one of the best on last gen. Such a good concept. I hate the fact we haven't really had any arcade racers this generation apart from NFS and that's fallen in quality.

gangsta_red2532d ago

I like these type of racing games. The over the top gameplay was fantastic
