If this is true think about how great it will be for gamers. This would finally offer a viable competitor to steam.

so if you have Live on the 360, are you going to have to shell out extra money for the service on Windows or do you get the service right out the gate since you are already a Gold Member?

My guess is that multiplayer gaming will remain free for all members. Games for Windows Live reboot did away with charging for multiplayer gaming...it wasn't popular. If they want to compete with Steam they won't reintroduce fees.

The console side of the business on the other hand will probabably restrict multiplayer gaming for non-paying (silver) members.

Xbox Live built into Windows 8 would also offer a viable competitor to iOS and android tablets.

Windows 8 will be able to run on ARM architecture. This is possibly the most exciting thing about the OS (for me). Windows 8 tablets with ARM system on a chip will offer a truely mobile experience with all the conveniences that we've come to expect on our desktops/laptops. The battery life will be excellent (thanks to ARM soc), you'll be able to edit Microsoft Office documents, navigate websites that have Flash, play games, watch Netflix, etc. Currently tablets aren't much more than devices with which we consume content. With Windows 8 in tablet form you'll be able to create content, and have access to a "real" file management system. If anyone is interested in an ipad or Android tablet, I would hold off on getting one.

Edit: All the tablet games you can currently find on smartphones and tablets/pads should be easy enough to port to any touch screen Windows 8 devices.

The article doesn't talk about Xbox Live on Windows 8 tablets, however it will arguably be just as important/cool.

I agree with you I got the Samsung Galaxy tab when it came out and it is a very good peace of kit but I have always said I would like a tablet device to have a full blown OS (windows, Linux or OSX) Because it offers more then what a tablet can do now and for some things I still need to turn on my laptop to complete the task because the tablet can not do it.

I have used a windows tablet but they just dont seem to work very well on a touch screen and the technology in them is not quite there yet too. After getting a WP7 I said this is what MS will do for there new tablets add the UI in some way to the tablet as it would work very well but when I saw the Windows 8 OS I was more than impressed as they have designed it around touch but also to work with a Mouse and keyboard.

I really think the next OS for MS and the direction they are going in will finally pay off for them in the tablet, mobile, pc and gaming industry as MS have had all the parts there for years but have never linked them all together where with all the above it will finally make MS 1 company and add things like xbox live, zune pass, Skype/MSN, Sky drive MS are in a very strong position.

well seeing as dx11 is probably gonna be around for awhile I'll be skipping 8

Hmm.. I don't know if this would be a competitor. It depends on how well Microsoft can execute it. If they do a good job I guess it will come down to Exclusives / Price of games.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit13d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing13d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9212d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
