x360 was 200$ cheaper than ps3 in beginning, now is only 100$
x360 was first to hit 200$ price point-3 years ago-even before wii, ps3 still at 300$
RROD-everybody bought 2-3 x360's because of it
media bashing ps3 (too expensive, has no games-which was a lie: motorstorm, resistance, ridge racer 7, everybody's golf 5, folklore, f1 championship, warhawk, ratchet&clank, uncharted, heavenly sword)

What Nintendo and MS have done this generation is outstanding.

Last gen, they sold 46 million consoles combined worldwide (24m Xbox, 22m GCN) Now they are at 62 million in the USA alone. This is an incredible achivement for both companies.

Sony on the other hand failed miserably to keep the market share.

How about showing the worldwide sales? Those will tell a different story. The sales gap between 360 and ps3 would only be about 2 million. US does not equal the entire world. Show the Japan and Europe sales.

The sales arguments are starting to get old/stale; mainly because people use the same rehashed arguments consistently. Another reason why I miss the 90's era of gaming - it was GAMES not "this company sold X number..."

i agree with you on this but as you can see i was referring to the (fanboys) who are trying to make NPD as if it's everything and ignoring the facts + if you were noticing they have been chatting on W.W sales and i just commented to point out some of the truthful and hurtful facts for some

please do understand that i'm not trying to be a fanboy here i mostly don't write comment but the problem is some ppl have so much ignorance they are trying to cover the truth in such a way they even know it but refuse to accept it

People bring up worldwide sales numbers because so many DO look at the NPD figures and say "Well that settles everything."

The truth, though, is that a lot of the "excuses" people come up with for why the 360 is outselling the PS3 here in the states ARE legitimate factors: marketing expenditures (Kinect, anyone?), replacing out of warranty systems, and lower base model pricing.

I always get told that my experience- selling hundreds of replacement 360s for out of warranty defective systems- isn't typical. And that's fine; it's not like I can debate that. But I find it extremely hard to believe that there are ten million more unique 360 owners than PS3 owners.

That, by the way, is a US phenomenon. I don't hear of people in other parts of the world buying multiple systems after the first one breaks down. Which makes it(likely) a factor that impacts sales in the US and not other places. Which would, then, make the numbers skewed, and so require a larger picture to get an accurate view.

Not saying I dispute the NPD numbers at all. Just saying that, for all those who would like to use these numbers as proof that MS is doing better than Sony, or catching up to Nintendo, or whatever, worldwide sales are used as a reality check. Or should be, anyway.

No PSP? So the 360 is 10 million ahead in the US. Wonder what is the gap in Japan? Surely more than 10 million for the PS3.. From other analysis the 360 and PS3 are neck and neck in Europe right?

Doesn't that make the PS3 ahead worldwide? Not bad for the console that is more expensive and launched almost a year later. Also, the issues and marketing at launch held the system back for a while. The 360 is cheap. Period.

For people looking at game comparisons... there are only 3 core titles that are coming out for the 360 vs over 10 for the PS3, plus all the other multiplatform games. I guess the deeper numbers tell the story. America doesn't equal the world.

The Wii was a novelty. Live fast, die young I guess. Still very impressive for Nintendo. The PSP is doing well in Japan, and to this day the PS2 is dominating the third world countries.

Speculate to your hearts content, but from what I gather MS has done a amazing job this Gen looking at the dissmal Xbox sales and the PS3 has done a great job to catch up.
