its funny ... but for North America I am a bit shocked to see the Wii is still slightly ahead of Sony for YTD numbers. I really would have not thought that the case with all the recent declines on the Wii's side.

LTD numbers though really do show just how strong Nintendo did in NA. Weren't they last to launch in this current generation too? Mighty impressive Nintendo.

LOGICWINS5424d ago (Edited 5424d ago )

Nintendo has the magical ability to make people buy the same thing over and over again for no reason whatsoever.

I had a GBA Pocket, GBA Color, GBA Advance, and SP Day 1 when I was a kid. Don't know what I was thinking lol.

kramun5424d ago (Edited 5424d ago )

So you had a gb which was mono, then when the tech was viable for Nintendo you bought the color version, then the GBA advance which was much more capable than the Gameboy, and you bought the GBA SP.

Each one was completely different to each other and more advanced and yet you claim you were buying the same thing over and over? And this is your argument for Nintendo releasing the same thing over and over again for no reason?

EDIT: How many revisions did the psp have? Let's not forget the psp go as well.

NewMonday5424d ago

Wii costs about 150$ that's why

sdtarm5424d ago

they are the same thing, just like the DS, DS Lite and DSi

where did you think apple took example from?

Denethor_II5424d ago

"Nintendo has the magical ability to make people buy the same thing over and over again for no reason whatsoever."

And I still have to stop myself wanting a 3ds every time that Zelda OOT advert comes on. But yes very true.

Where are the PS2 and PSP numbers?

OC_MurphysLaw5424d ago

I am not 100% but I don't think NPD tracks PS2 any more for YTD atleast... I could be totally wrong there so take it with a grain of salt and as for PSP... good question.

Ddouble5424d ago

Wii had a price drop and new bundles while nothing has changed with the PS3.

FlyGuyHung5424d ago

LTD

DS – 49,155,483
Wii – 35,894,494
360 – 27,818,373
PS3 – 17,153,921
3DS – 832,000

Impressive numbers.

Dread5424d ago

also for MS

remember they are the new kids on the block and they are beating the Playstaiton 3 in the U.S. by more than 10 million.

very impressive.

zootang5424d ago

Dread

That 10 million is lost with the RROD fiasco.

5424d ago
kneon5424d ago

@DK286K

That's true but what about all the people who had consoles die out of warranty and just bought a replacement? While that is far below the 10 million difference, it's certainly much more than 0.

MOTY5424d ago

@ kneon

True, but no more than those who had a PS3 out of warranty and got the YLOD. People buy replacements when the warranties ware off. it's the nature of the beast....however, while MS has a 3 year warranty, Sony only has a 1 year warranty. One could make the argument that more people could be replacing their PS3's more often than people replacing their 360's due to the PS3 warranty being 1/3 the length.

testerg355424d ago

zootang, so when 360 games outsell their PS3 counterpart in NA its because the 360 has a much bigger installbase. Now when it shows 360 has a bigger installbase PS3 fans says its equal because 50% of those are RROD.

Awesome logic.

BigPenguin5424d ago

@MOTY

So you are just full of shit then? The 360 on release had only a 90 day warranty, it was not upped to a year until holiday season a year after it was out, and it was not upped to 3 years until 7 months after that.

Basically when it came out, everyone who had a RROD in the first year(estimated 30% of release consoles would crap out within one year) either had to buy a new one, or not have a system. Many people had to purchase more then one additional 360 when their second one broke. My favorite part was how MS was flat out lying to people about the failure rate the entire time as well.

So to sum up, you are a god damn liar, and do not even get me started on your entire 1year vs 3year warranty argument for 360 vs. PS3. Seriously, just stupid.

silvacrest5424d ago

your first mistake was assuming everyone, even people who know all about the warranty, will actually use it

i no people in that situation, they did not use the warranty, they just bought a new one, some of the reasons i got were:

"might as well upgrade"

"i dont want to wait a month for the warranty"

and like the guy below said, some people are out of warranty and there are the millions with a hacked but banned 360, even if they dont mind being banned, when it gets the RRoD the warranty is already gone

Death5424d ago

The warranty for the Xbox 360 was 1 year at launch. They were taking care of systems that RROD'd after the warranty had expired pretty much to the time they extended it to 3 years. Those that paid Microsoft for an out of warranty repair before the extention were also reimbursed. Sony increased their warranty with the PS3 to one year as well. Sony had a strict 90 day warranty with the PS1 and PS2, but changed to 1 year like Microsoft.

MOTY5424d ago (Edited 5424d ago )

@ BigPenguin

Who is full of shit?

kneon said

"people who had consoles die out of warranty"

Is there a date? Nope. Is there any indication at which time he was referring to? Nope.

And lets use your examples then shall we?

"The 360 on release had only a 90 day warranty, it was not upped to a year until holiday season a year after it was out, and it was not upped to 3 years until 7 months after that. "

The 360 launched with a 1 year warranty, so where are you getting your 90 day warranty from? Then, the 3 year was added within it's first full year of launch. Everything was covered since launch. IF you bought a 360 right at launch and IF if broke during that 1st year period within the 6 years it's been out, the 360 was still covered.

Sony has had a 1 year warranty for 5 years now. ONLY a 1 year warranty. That means, there is BY FAR MORE CHANCES THAT SOMEONE'S PS3 WOULD HAVE CRAPPED OUT AND HAD TO BUY A NEW ONE THAN THERE WAS FOR OWNERS OF A 360 SINCE MS HAVE 3X THE SIZE OF WARRANTY 1YEAR AND 7 MONTHS INTO THE RELEASE OF THE CONSOLE.

The argument is still that there is a greater chance that a PS3 would have to have been repurchased due to the ONLY 1 year warranty than a 360 since people have been covered since launch for either a 1 year or 3 year warranty.

Use your head.

Oner5424d ago

@ Death ~ The Xbox 360 was NOT 1 year. It was 90 days because they KNEW about RROD and tried to screw the customers by only offering a 3 month warranty in a cheap way to try and help mitigate their FORESEEN losses.

"Following Microsoft's extension of the Xbox 360 warranty to a full year, from the previous 90 days"

BigPenguin5424d ago

@MOTY

LoL, I guess me calling you out once was not enough. You were so full of shit you tried again to say the same incorrect statement. You are just fucking retarded at this point.

I would like to thank Oner for actually posting proof. You sir are a gentleman.

Death5424d ago

I stand corrected. I just opened my launch box to double check and it did indeed come with an insert to upgrade your 3 month warranty to 2 years with a service contract.

I still disagree that Microsoft only offered a 90 day warranty to try and cheat people out of their repair money. Extending to 1 year and then three says otherwise.

As far as who has more repurchases Included in their sales is a moot point. Having a higher defect rate surely caused more repurchases. How much was offset by PS3's shorter warranty is about as relevant as deciding how many PS3's were bought for Blu-ray players only. The percentages for both arguements have gotten smaller as each day has passed since launch. Surely by now neither is truly relevant to anyone other than fans who still argue the point.

@zootang

RROD jokes are getting old.

nanometric5423d ago

I would just like to point out, that EU has a mandatory 2 year warranty law, not 90 day's or 1 yr, and I'm quite certain, that 360's 3yr warranty really works only in US and maybe UK.

P.S. I could be dead wrong about the last part, but I know that I couldn't claim it here.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle25d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

jznrpg31d ago

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree31d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai31d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.
